Doublet vs TunicFollow

I've been looking at the merrits of a tunic type armors vs doublet type armors. Given the large number mages that run around in tunics I figured they gave some sort of advantage to counter the lack of head gear. I can't seem to find any advantage that out weighs the value of appropreat head gear. Also while at lower levels they offer slightly better defense, this is usually surpassed in 1 to 3 levels buy a basic doublet, more so if you add head gear. So what leads to the popularity of tunics? Is there something I'm missing besides cost?

Looks was the only reason for me, I have recently switched to the rob so I can add head gear, off setting the loss of +INT and MIND of my tunic by upgrading my weapon. In my opinion, there is not much for mages at low levels, worth spending gil on. If you do not have a guide or taken time to browes this site, go a head and do so, planning out your wearable item purchases before hand. It's cheaper to wear low lvl items longer then to upgrade ever lvl or so.

I'm a BLM, so I had to wear a tunic until level 12. It sucked, I hated it! I hate tunics so much. I love being able to wear headgear.
