getting FFXI!Follow

You may have seen my other topic earlier asking if i imported FFXI from america (as i live in England) would i sign up and pay ok, well from my responses it sounded like it would work fine as other eurropeans have also done this. So tomorrow i'm ordering the game and at the moment i'm trying to revise on the basics lol.

I dont really have a clue what i will be, perhaps a Hume theif-Ninja or somthing like that, not sure yet dont know all the details.

Just wondering what should be the main points i revise on, like what will be most important for me to know for when i start. Obviously knowing what character and job i want will be important so i will make sure i know the basics on that, any other significent things i should know of, or get the details of?

I've also noticed ppl say train your war to lvl 18 or summit then make a wateva ant get it to lvl 30, duz this mean u need multiple characters in the game? Can't you just stick with one the whole way through? Its really confusing me :(
