Hodgepodge info from 2003 no longer usefulFollow

I just spent weeks doing Pally 1.0 only to lose every quest item on turn ins, Sure i petitioned but thats a little like screaming at the night about it being dark. daybreak is extreamly poor at responses to petitions and mostly answer , heck , just do it over.
The information on Zam is so dated or usless ( missing text , entire lines of jibberish ect.) that it only complacates the matter.I dont think its out of line to ask that they clean up some of the pages that tell you nothing about what you should actually do.If a quest changes , then remove the old information , it only leads to confusion.I understand that the material is posted by people like myself and we can make mistakes or leave things out , but there must be a reason i pay to have full access to this site besides reading gibberish from an excited drunk necro that cant remember who or where or what he did but finished the quest anyway.
Any way , last line of the write up reads , turn in all 4 items at the same time . doesnt say to who or where , so i handed them into the clown in Sky that needs me to pay some drunk dorf 500pp for you to talk to him. I had at this time (end of quest) only 4 items left from the weeks of working on it. so like a fool i do what he says , i get back 2 recipies for fruit pies or something and he eats my soulfire and soulbane. so i give him his recipies back and he eats them too .
This type of information is not only usless but damaging to the comunity , i am so angry that i told eveyone i was done with EQ. Can i repeat the quests ? yes , but why should i have to ?

I would update the real quest but i still have no idea what to do to finish it.

Zam's Paladin Epic 1.0 Quest Write-up wrote:
Final Steps

Mark of Atonement

Return to Reklon Gnallen. Hand him the Gleaming Crested Breastplate, Gleaming Crested Sword, and Gleaming Crested Shield.

Reklon Gnallen says 'I never thought our order would see these artifacts again. With the return of these relics we can now put at ease a scar upon the history of our order. This cleansing will atone for his failure. Your soul must be pure to have given so freely of yourself. Go now, take this crested token of our order. If you wish to free his soul you must undertake another sacrifice.'

You receive a Mark of Atonement, which identifies as "Mark of Peace."

You say, 'What sacrifice?'

Reklon Gnallen says 'Only this crest and the sacrifice of something that symbolizes your strength and purity will release his spirit into the cleansing flames of our lady Quellious. Go now.'

Freeing Irak

When Reklon mentions "something that symbolizes your strength and purity," he is in fact referring to the Fiery Avenger. The last step is to turn in the Mark of Atonement and the Fiery Avenger to Irak Altil in Fear. Turn in the two items together. Irak will then give you your new Fiery Defender.

Irak Altil screams so loudly it echoes across the valley as the mark and flames of your holy sword touch his rotted bones. As his body twists he quiets and then speaks. 'Your selflessness has made it possible to redeem my honor. With the cleansing of my corruption your own soul has been strengthened. Your power comes from your devotion to your god and with this you have been rewarded. Remember always your purity, devotion, and why you have sacrificed. I must go now to sacrifice myself upon the spear of pain.'

You receive your Fiery Defender!

Did you use this quest write up or the item page itself? The item page is a bit hazy I agree... but we need users (like you) to post correct information for us to update. It also works best if these updates are on the actual pages for the quest/item/npc in question.

It's hard to follow your post (you don't name specific mobs by searchable names) but you should be able to /petition in game for handing in items to the wrong NPC. Make sure you tell them when you did it, exactly where and to what NPC. Numerous people on these forums (including myself) have received items back this way. I can't speak to the speed of this under Daybreak, but it did occur in prior times.

I think he means the turn ins in the Plane of Sky. It looks like he turned in Ghoulbane, Soulfire and The Head and Robe of Miragul all at once. He should have turned in Soulfire to receive Inte's First Blessing, the blessing of nobility. Then Ghoulbane to receive Inte's Second Blessing, the blessing of sacrifice. Finally he should have turned in Inte's First Blessing, the blessing of nobility, Inte's Second Blessing, the blessing of sacrifice and The Head and Robe of Miragul all at once. He then would have received The Fiery Avenger. After that he would have to proceed on the last steps as shown in snailish's post above to Complete 1.0 and get The Fiery Defender.

Yes Snailish I would have done that part of the quest correctly however it has no reference to how to do the correct turn ins and in what order in Sky.

KC13 has the answer I searched for over and over again and came up with only "turn in all 4 items at the same time."
Thank you for your post KC13 it answers my questions perfectly , I only wish I had posted before i lost all the items . can the correct turn in order be added to the confusing write up that now exists to save others this frustration in the future ?

automated response e-mail from Daybreak , and nothing more , i expect the people in Bangladesh who dont play everquest are more confused than i am and will wait a week or two before saying the ticket has been resolved by ( /ignore )

To be fair, the write up for Fiery Avenger is a bit "odd" (but too be fair, it's a common pattern with EQ quest write ups). Basically, it first tells you what you need to do at the end of the quest, and then tells you how to get each of the pieces needed for the quest. So it starts telling you that you need to hand the two blessings, plus the head and robe of Miragul to Inte Akera to receive Fiery Avenger. Then it tells you that to get the blessings, you turn in Ghoulbane and receive one blessing, then turn in Soulfire to receive the other. The rest of the writeup details how to obtain the head and robe of Miragul. Then it says (perhaps too vaguely), "Turn in these four items for the Fiery Avenger".

To be honest, it's actually a pretty simple quest. It's just convoluted because there are several sets of "four items" along the way.

Ultimately, you need four items to start: The burnt book, the frost book, ghoulbane, and soulfire. Assuming you have them all, the rest is just turn in's (more or less). But each is transformed in the following ways:

1. Take the burnt and frost books plus 1000 pp to Rineval Talyas and receive the Book of Scale.

2. Turn the Book of Scale in to the Oracle in Ocean of Tears to get Miragul's Phylactery.

3. Turn the Phylactery in to Miragul's Lich to spawn the real Miragul. Kill him and get his head and robe.

So at this point, you've taken two items and turned them into two other items.

4. Go to the PoSky and spawn Inte Akera (have some one else spawn him while you wait in the windmill on pegasus island).

5. Hand him ghoulbane (and only ghoulbane). Receive a blessing (no clue which one, and honestly doesn't matter).

6. Hand him soulfire (and only soulfire). Receive the other blessing.

So at this point, you've turned those two items into yet two other items.

7. You should now have 4 items again: 2 blessings from Inte Akera, the head of Miragul, and the robe of Miragul. Hand him those four items (all at once) and receive your Fiery Avenger:

Inte Akera wrote:
You think you can succeed where I cannot? Perhaps you can noble one.. Bring me the head of Miragul, his robe and hand me back the two blessings I gave you, and in return I shall bequeath to you this sword I carry. Good luck my friend.'

That's the whole quest. Of course, you have to obtain the two books (which is far easier now than it used to be), and get soulfire and ghoulbane (which each have their own write ups). But once you have those four items, the actual "quest" for Fiery Avenger is pretty straightforward.

I'll also point out that FA is *not* the Paladin 1.0 epic. It is itself just one component for Fiery Defender, which is the actual epic.

I quickly tossed Gbaji's nice summation into the write-up. That particular quest has a lot of editorial notes in it for verification (of dialogues, locations, faction required and such) so if someone feels the itch to go a Paladin-ing and quest write-up submitting it looks like all the old-school Pally epic 1.0 prequests could use a do over.

I highly recommending posting before doing something you may not be able to undo. Especially if it involves clarification of info here. Less than a day and two competent veterans with paladin tribal knowledge answered your question and allowed me to (at least band-aid) fix the quest write up here.

Funny nowadays NPCs return stuff you give them in error, informing you they have no use for the item. Maybe that isn't true with old epic quests, or maybe not on the TLP servers?

If such is the case I'd suggest Googling epic quests for detailed write-ups. There are sites out there, some of them old and mostly "dead", with that kind of info from the era before NPCs were helpful enough to return unwanted items. Writeups here have to be considered carefully, especially if the posts are old. The game does change and evolve and not every change becomes immediately documented here. Personally, one of my enjoyments of the game is to discover some aspect (NPC, drop, quest step, etc.) which is NOT documented here. It's like exploring strange new lands! Smiley: lol
