Back to normal Fri morning, it seems.

Interesting how a DDOS attack stimulates the most amount of activity on these forums in what----years?

True indeed !! We had two lines of premium members and nearly 200 guests listed at the bottom of the EQ forums for most of the night.

Paging Tencent Holdings....paging Tencent Holdings......

This is just one reason why ZAM EQ is indispensable to many EQ players and why we want it to continue..

Even when the official forums were down many came here to these forums as opposed to any other EQ related forums.......

Hope ZAM-EQ lives long and prospers........ (copyright) commander Spock/Star Trek Smiley: smile

Reason #14187 to hate that sociopathic baboon Smedley. As if I needed yet another reason.

He's made a career of using his mouth to write checks his butt can't cash.

John Smedley is the Steve Ballmer of the gaming world. Only far less likeable.

Its funny how people think this is Smedley's fault when in reality he is the one attempting to defend this game and other games from these hackers.. Agreed there could have been a better way to handle it, he is still trying to do something. The real fault lies within the ones who are actually conducting these DDoS attacks. And if some people are not smart enough to understand that, then there is no reasoning with them at all. They just want to hate on Smedley rather than who or what is actually causing it. Its like blaming the murder victim for being in the wrong place at the wrong time rather than the one who actually committed the murder.

Not at all. It's more like being exasperated with a murder victim for being foolish enough to publicly taunt a known impulsive murderer (who has previously stabbed them multiple times) and then predictably getting murdered. It doesn't mean the murderer isn't ultimately culpable for their actions, but it does mean that the victim was unbelievably stupid to have taunted them in the first place. That's just begging for trouble and having it hand-delivered on a silver platter.

Smedley mouthed off (yet again) and now Daybreak's customers are experiencing the resulting inconvenience. They're the real victims here, not him. It's an entirely predictable consequence of his actions.

I honestly can't believe anyone is actually defending Smedley. Do you know nothing of this contemptible man's history? He has earned a pathetic 27% approval rating on Glassdoor for a very good reason.

I think it's a matter of just being able too play a game that a lot of people pay for . Interrupting game play for a agenda for whatever reasons one or many may have is selfish whether it's good or bad intentions . I just feel there is better ways to accomplish one's or many personal beliefs.

Regardless of how miserable a human being Smedley is, this attack isn't directed at him and doesn't harm him at all. We are the only ones hurt by this.

All this tells me is that they aren't capable of going after him directly so they are just flailing around at things he is associated with.

That's not true. Every second these services are down it's draining money. Can you purchase anything in the shop right now? Not to mention the money that has to be spent to call in specialists, contractors or consultants , because it's apparent their normal staff is not equipped to deal with this situation. On top of all of that, the reputation of being unable to fend off a small network of hackers with a multi million dollar network may hurt future business expansions.

Good call Mochachino, I totally agree. I don't think they can do much of anything to Smed, but I can. I can cancel my subscriptions and find something else to play. Don't get me wrong, I love EQ. I've played for years on end, but if I'm going to put money in someone's pocket and not be able to play because this DA didn't secure his own empire from DDoD attacks, then he doesn't deserve my money. And the Lizard DA's don't deserve my time or energy. I can find other "working" things to spend my time and money on.

Correct. Smedley is not to blame for this. This kid and his lonely friends A) Grounded the AIRPLANE he was on POST 9/11 with a BOMB THREAT and is still inhabiting his mother's basement in Finland, B) Sent him pictures of his FATHER'S GRAVE with despicable things all over it, C) Filed false TAX RETURNS on Smed, D) SWATTED his HOUSE - I don't care if Smed is a factory worker or the President of the United States, I'd expect some public speak from him about taking these children to town. I hope they (along with their absentee parents) get extradited to the US for the various internet *terrorism* crimes they committed here, and get to spend a few quality decades in GTMO with the real terrorists. Make them see where they went wrong in life.

This hurts Smedley...

All caused by the Lizards. So you were saying that they can't do anything to Smedley? In fact, you saying that you're going to cancel you're subscription, is playing right into their agenda. You're basically encouraging this action to happen again.

No, I'm playing out of both of their hands. These are little kids in Finland and they have successfully made the biggest jackass of Smed. Smed gets what he deserves for talking **** on Twitter and getting showed up by little kids. How do you know what they want? They aren't doing this because they want people to stop playing online games, they are doing it because Smed is letting them and was unprepared to handle this because he thought they were just punk kids and these KIDS filed fraudulent taxes on him, got his home SWATTED, and brought down his ENTIRE empire. HELL NO I am not encouraging this moron. I'm not going to sit here and defend the IDIOT that brought this to my quiet little getaway in Norrath that I can't play now and just might cause MY information to get hacked. If he can't protect his own, what makes you think he will protect yours??
#74 Jul 10 2015 at 2:04 PM Rating: Decent
He can't even get the games back up. I see no reason to defend either party's action. That would be encouraging this to happen again cancelling my subscriptions so that I can pay to play when the game is up and that doesn't compromise my bank account would be encouraging identity security and blocking idiots from accessing my personal information,.

I agree, the network being unable to mitigate DDoS is Smedley's fault.

I don't know what they want. How do you? I was simply pointing out that, yes, they are hurting Smedley.
#76 Jul 10 2015 at 2:26 PM Rating: Default
I never said what they wanted - you implied that friend. All I said was Smed is letting them do it because he was unprepared and made a bunch of smart remarks. I think they meant to prove a point and they did it quite well. This is not the first time they have done it and they are now getting even better at it and really pushing to see how far they can get away with this. If they can do it to Smed, they can do it to a peon like me without a second glance. Smed seriously screwed this up with his big mouth and I just wish he hadn't done that.
