Where to power level my 60 BeastlordFollow

#1 Jun 09 2015 at 8:09 PM Rating: Decent
I am using my new heroic Paladin to attempt to power level my Beastlord which is level 60. The problem is I have tried hills of shade and old bloodfields the exp for being a hotzone on the Beastlord is very slow. Any suggestions would be helpful tired of wasting lesson of the devoted or using up exp potions. I just want the Beastlord to level 68 that is when it finally gets a decent pet that is one level below it instead of 15. I am starting to regret I had made this toon had I known I would of made a Shaman instead but since the veteran awards are already used on it to late.

60*1.5 +1 = 91, so you should be getting group xp. Don't have any mercs in the group.
I'd recommend going to Ruins of Illsallin and just swarming the central spire rooms with your pally, and your beastlord in tow with IVU on him. Beware the gargoyles, there's only two but they're non-undead so they will see through IVU. At 85 you should be able to rock that zone with ease, my own Paladin held her own at 80 quite reasonably there.
Barring that zone, go somewhere like Wall of Slaughter, where there's an innate zone xp mod, the mobs die fairly quickly, and there's lots of them.

The problem with both suggested zones is that the mobs will be greyed out (or very close) to the paladin. Not sure what that does to the overall exp calculation, but I think that might be inefficient. I'm not sure if you can even pull enough mobs at a time to maintain a decent exp rate gain for the BL.

I'm somewhat shocked that HoS isn't rocking for exp. At level 85 that should be about the best solo hunting location for your paladin. So it stands to reason that if this is generating the best exp for the paladin, it should generate the most for anyone else you're dragging along to PL. Everything else about the exp split and relative levels remaining the same, that should be the case. I have pretty much zero experience with PLing though, so take that for what it's worth.

An alternative would be to put the Paladin away for a bit and try the following:

Solo the beastlord in the level 55 hotzone (whatever that presently is) or the 55-60 Luclin zones like Acrylia Caverns --which beastlords seem to do really well in.

You have AA autogrant turned on? Beastlords with AA are rather strong 55-65 to my recall, at least in old content. As in able to solo stuff that only a few other classes could.

You could always sacrifice some experience to a merc. You may level faster with a warrior merc doing the heavy lifting and your pet doing the damage... beastlord stand back and watch.

Blackfeather Roost could be an xp zone worth trying too. Just bewared the much deadlier named animals until you really know the zone.

Or find a zone that the paladin eats for breakfast that still gives the paladin some xp (like gbaji said).

Actually, in hindsight, 85 might still be a bit low for the paladin to really plow through HoS (honestly can't remember the ideal level range). An alternative (which is also a hotzone) is OceanGreen Hills. Yes, it sucks at a hotzone in general. However, if you go into the grotto at the north end of the zone, it's chock full of plants. Now, you might be asking yourself: Why the heck would I go fight plants? Um... Because... wait for it.. they are Undead Plants. Yes. Somehow, through the magic of really strange necromancy, those plants are flagged as undead. Which means you can rock them as a paladin. This was the area I did lesson burns with my paladin before moving to the blackwaters/fishermen in HoS. Again, I can't recall the exact level where one became better than the other (I do remember that it wasn't yet a hotzone when I was hunting there), but if HoS is a bit slow for the paladin, try the grotto. The one negative of it being a hotzone is that occasionally someone else may be hunting there (whereas it was totally empty pretty much 100% of the time when I used it).

But if you can get it, it should be awesome hunting.

Oh. Second the point about just playing the BL directly. I found that soloing is still really really fast for most classes up until around level 70 or so (depends on the class, and I think that you're right about BLs being particularly good with sufficient AAs, which they get with autogrant now). The one advantage to PLing the BL with your paladin is that you're getting exp with both characters. So not even really PLing, so much as grouping. Done right, over time the BL will gain levels faster than the paladin, and can kinda catch up. At which point you can just switch to boxing them as a group.
