A bunch of stuff coming on test http://forums.station.sony.com/eq/posts/list.m?topic_id=186160

Is huge for me though... I have several characters from the LoN beta era that are completly useless but have familiars (i.e., nagafen) that were changed to be much more useful after I had /claimed them. This change will let me delete several characters and creates huge reroll incentive for me.

Why would they put it on test and not push it live?

I haven't claimed about 90% of the LON stuff because I don't know who to claim it on, so I just leave it sit there. Now I'll be able to claim it on someone and move it around.

Chandra's fang is one that I can't wait to move. Awesome item.

They push a lot of stuff on Test, to see if it works before going to live.

This is also great for me at least. I have a bunch of stuff on my alts that I barely use anymore.

Aye. Suppose LoN going heirloom (or any of the other changes) somehow causes AC to count negative on armor, all character models to show as bixies or some other random bizarre impact. The concept is "mess up test so it can be fixed before costing us angst on live".

If you play on test, you know you could be dealing with spooky things... hence the benefits given to test players.

The fault in the system of late has been the limited amount of testing occurring to some big tweaks. In my view, this is why we've seen some significant nerfs of late.

I'd have to mention at the same time though, that things coming out of recent expacs have often been cited on the beta boards for those expacs and not dealt with (somewhat defeating the purpose of beta in my view). I can't give specific examples (I remember reading about things that were 20 levels beyond me) but there is posters here that were direct participants in that process.

True. Nothing like this though. There's no testing required. Heirloom has been around for many years.

In EQ? No it has not (unless 2-3 years qualifies as 'many' to you). You act like you can do anything you want with an antique codebase that half the staff isn't totally familiar with. Standard Code Rant applies here. Heirloom flag was added to EQ2 (the EQ with the more modern codebase) in 2009, when was it added to EQ1?

You put it on Test to see if anything strange happens (like, oh I dunno, items becoming dupeable, as has happened before with "no testing required" assumptions). You put it on Test, if nothing else, as a cover your *** measure ("Well, it was on Test for X weeks and that didn't come up").

This change doesn't really affect me any since I have long since stopped doing the 'same account alt' thing (too many times wanting to play the alt with the main) but I could definitely see it being useful. Like if my cleric wanted to start a rogue or bard twink, she could pass along all the visages she seems to get (when I'd rather the enchanter get those things).

Thats true, if theres one thing i have learned with SOE in general is seemingly simple things tend to get really screwed up somehow when they are involved. You just never know with these guys, i wouldnt be surprised to find some horrid bug with putting heirloom LoN items in shared bank.

I still remember the big DX9.0c update where whatever they did caused all sorts of craziness with warping, pathing and falling through the ground. Took forever to fix too, and back then they probably had dedicated devs. That first week or two before they added rewind sucked bad, lost my cleric under the world in PoN for quite a while and remember sitting there watching people complain about all sorts of wierdness in that zone. Mobs pathing through walls, mobs aggroing that where nowhere near, mobs warping right on top of you, mobs falling through the ground and being unable to hit them while they could hit you.

Now granted that was a pretty big overhaul and not a good comparison just a solid reminder that with SOE never say anythings simple and will just work.

Do you know how many times Sony has messed up a simple change? The list is long and distinguished.

Also, other than emergency fixes, everything gets pushed through Test (or Beta for expansions). Since this is one change in the Test patch message, it still bears out that everything spends a couple weeks on Test first.

While it may be a simple and innocent change, it gives a chance for real players to mess with it. Maybe there is an item or two that is overpowering in the hands of a low level toon. Players seem to be pretty good at figuring out how to abuse something.

Unfortunately, this is very true.

By the way, the scenario that gave out Chalandria's Fang (sp?) is avaialble right now. Spider Queen. Not sure how long it's up for, but I went and did it last night. They even reset my completion so I was able to get the item again.

This went life and then got removed so me, moron, moved some things around to play around with illusions and now the buggers are all stuck on the wrong toon, as they were claimed on rogue.

All this in last 24 hrs

Yeah, I have most of mine in the shared bank so I get a warning message along the lines of "put these items onto a character before you are forced on server reset to put them all on first character you log in"

O-boards http://forums.station.sony.com/eq/posts/list.m?topic_id=186412 talk about it a bit... it might be a while before this is fixed.

Bright side for me: items are mostly off characters I had no intentions of ever playing. I can give all the illusions to my enchanter. My necro gets a few new toys as well. I can finally delete my drakkin cleric baz mule...(I gave up on the character 2 weeks after /claiming some really good LoN stuff on it).

Down side: I'm not sure where I want to put some of the familiars I have because I was leaning towards testing several of them on the necro and then filtering them down my characters from there. Now I have to give the necro all of them or forego the testing.
