Prestige items, some info for new/returning players?Follow

#1 Apr 23 2012 at 11:23 AM Rating: Decent
Greetings,

I can't really find very good info about prestige items on google. My old main from 8 years ago can't use half his equipment, which is generally raid gear. For instance, I can't use any Vex Thal gear, but can use the 2hb from the storm dude from Bastion of Thunder (now that's an accurate description...).

What can't a bronze or silver member use which a gold member can?

So far as I know, most raid gear. But what else? Can epics be used by bronze/silver members? How about LDON gear?

Many screenshots from ZAM are from before the f2p model so I can't find much info about this.

Here are the items that are tagged as Prestige:

1. 95% of all augments. Non-Prestige augments are hot-zone, defiant, and some quest augments.
2. SoD T4 and T5 group and raid gear. This includes the quest armor and named drops from the T4-T5 zones/instances.
3. I think all UF gear that is not from the Boomerang event is Prestige. I have not confirmed that, but seeing how the gear was a continuation of the SoD system, it makes sense.
4. HoT T3 and T4 group and raid gear.
5. VoA gear? I know that the attunable stuff is non-prestige, but I haven't confirmed the quest stuff (I am not that level yet).

Your Vex Thal gear should be fine. If you have a prestige augment in it then your gear name should be purple. When you see purple named gear, that means you have a prestige augment in non-prestige armor. You should get zero benefit from the augment, but normal values/benefit from the armor stats. Remove the augment and the gear should return to normal.

Nice summary, Wayen.

The Prestige thing can be a bit frustrating and confusing, but SOE is trying to stay in business while offering a "Free" play option. At least they improved things with the recent change that simply mutes Prestige augments vs. killing all stats on that armor piece.

For those of you unaware, there is a ridiculously easy quest for a level-equivalent HP/mana/end augment that is NOT Prestige. All you have to do is 1) be in a Guild, and 2) get the task from the Guild Lobby. There are lots of Guilds out there who welcome casual players or will let you join to use their Guild Hall resources (just be clear up front if you don't plan on participating in Guild events).

Details here: Exploring the Guild Hall

I still feel they could have offered some free (safe) aug removers to returning players. Can get expensive to remove augments if you want to add any that are not Prestige.

Thanks for the replies all, please keep them coming!

But more items seem to be prestige. For instance, the sword of Ssraeshza is prestige, and so is a mask from Vex Thal. I can't check ATM where my other prestige items came from, but they will be PoP raids at best. The stats on those items are worthless compared to defiant, but they still are prestige. And no augments existed when I quit.

Are perhaps all items from raid end-bosses prestige? It kinda makes sense because, well, they are prestigious (ea, you lack bragging rights if you have them but are not gold).

And are epics prestige? I want the water sprinkler on my cleric, because I'm a cleric (as solid logic as the Pythagoras theorum right?). And I'll bloody solo it. But it would be a downer if I did so and I could not use it ...

Other than augments, nothing before SoD is supposed to be tagged as "prestige". It doesn't matter if it is an end game (for that expansion) item or not. I would interested to see a screen shot of said item.

Epics are not tagged as prestige.

Just as a note on augments, you can buy and use Augmentation Solvent (10ish pp) to destroy augs cheaply, if they require better than a Class III distiller (>20pp). https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=24325

If you plan on staying Bronze or Silver, and the augs are very old, the non-prestige are probably better. Only a few augs from LDoN (mostly raid drops and a few purchased) and GoD (bic in particular, most of the raid drops are primarily mod2 augs, and equipment has tons of mod2s now) do I recall being worth saving.

I'm hoping the make the purchasable LDoN and DoN augs non-prestige eventually.

Note on this: you can create your own guild with just one person now. Open up the guild manager (alt+G) and click on the filed where it says "Enter Guild Name" then click the "Create Guild" button when you have found a sufficiently acceptable name for yourself.
