I have an idea for us to be able to show off our old sets of armor; maybe SOE can make an Armor Mannequine. But I wonder how we can get the Developers to construct them.

It has been asked on the housing forum at http://forums.station.sony.com/eq/forums/show.m?forum_id=107 but to be honest the new way they combined the forums, it is hard to find anything. SoE doesn't listen to their player base or at least listen to me. SoE would be able to sell, for station cash. the Mannequins you described and they would fit nicely in housing and in Guild Hall decorating. It would be a nice added feature to be observe by other players touring your creations. And in my opinion, they would sell a lot of Mannequins too.... But then again it would take marketing and a marketing department with some intelligence....which really seems to be lacking in the corporate level at SoE. Please note that nothing directed to the developers. It must be hard working with one hand tied behind your back.

I'd spend money on that. Something that shows all of the visible armor plus primary and secondary slots (or range).

It has nothing to do with not listening to the player base and everything to do with how the current models are constructed. Armor is part of the model and not an add on. This is the same reason why we haven't seen new armor sets in many years and why there aren't ornamentations for armor. If we get new character models, then they will have the ability to add things like mannequins.

In theory, you could make the mannequines as stationary character models. You'd have to buy the race/sex that you wanted to display the armor correctly.

You'd still need the ability to put items on them and take items off. Plus, not all character models have all graphics. So for example you may not be able to put plate on a high elf model or clot on a dwarf if you wanted to try that (I didn't check those combo, just an example.)

I think the concept is doable, not sure it is $$$ viable to do all the races though.

They could test it by making a human model mannequin (basically a bag that displays its goods) since humans have all armor sets.

---

As a side note... I truly believe they could have fixed the dwarf-cloth (as an example) issue years ago without adding anything new to the game, just by flagging all cloth items to look like leather on dwarves. Designing robes graphics for dwarves would be new data/coding. Assigning the data from the leather armor to dwarves in the cloth fields should work*

*I'm oversimplifying it, but the general concept should be valid.

I don't see why not. EverQuest 2 has manniquins that you can dress up to show off your armor and junk.

It wouldn't be hard for them to basically allow players to place an item that would spawn a naked "Insert Race/Sex here". It would be just like the old Priest of Discord days where they would wear whatever you hand them.

Oh man... I would even be tempted to buy my own "male model" if it was a priest of discord until I "dressed" it. That's almost incentive to buy a housing plot too... to build my own catwalk...

Too funny Fronglo.

Ever since this thread started, all I can think about, is making a Wax Museum. They just need to add the mannequines, and let you customize the appearance like real toons, so you could imitate npcs from the game.

You're making excuses for them.

How many years did we hear there was no way for bags to have more than 10 slots because....

How many years did hybrids have a (sometimes awful) experience penalty that couldn't be removed or changed because....

After EQ2 Extended launched, we heard that EQ could never be free to play because....

Look, bottom line is, SOE doesn't listen to what its players say. It listens to what its players do. If a case could be made inhouse that introducing armor mannequins would far exceed the cost involved with making them happen, guess what would happen? We'd get armor mannequins, that's what. Several times a week, they introduced various cosmetic/fun/non-gameplay affecting items into the marketplace. Why? Because these things generate far more revenue than they cost to make happen. That's the ONLY reason these things get done. I'm fairly sure there are people at SoE working out cost:benefit ratios for things like armor mannequins and deciding whether it's worth throwing into the marketplace OR tying to an expansion. Let's be clear here: there will be no new character models for EQ1. It costs too much to create them and even tying them to an expansion isn't going to generate the kind of revenue that would justify doing so. With EQ Next a few years away, it makes sense to concentrate your modeling efforts there, not trying to stir up the hornet's nest within EQ1's community. Maybe you'll recall the last time they attempted to do new models for EQ? Remember the threadnaughts that developed over that?
