I've been reading many of the threads here on the subject and the FAQ's on returning players and F2P etc. Very cool!

I was quite happy to see my toons etc still around. I got a few questions if anybody doesn't mind answering.

My "main" is a 54 Ranger. Some AA's and i'm sure my armor / equip is probably crap now. Where would be a good place to start working on XP and gathering up some pp?

I really prefer to solo most of the time unless I find a decent guild or group of people. So the hireable npc's sound promising, any advice with them would be appreciated.

Only other thing is apparently I had fun killing the Qeynos guards a lot and am KoS there. Did they ever implement any easier way to adjust faction back? It was so easy to destroy it but I swear I killed 230840238 gnolls trying just to get back to Dubious.

Thanks in advance!

With mercs soloing is far easier. At 54 just find the hotzone for that level (Dranik scar?). If you have some loyalty points you can buy an item that resets your faction.

Ahhh ya, now I remember hot zones! Excellent. I forgot to ask also, I thought they had re designed / updated most of the zones? I saw Freeport is different but Kelethin and Qeynos werent? I'm glad to see the old zones still there :)

The following thread gives some good tips: https://everquest.allakhazam.com/forum.html?forum=1&mid=133219935614211828

The classic giants in Mountains of Rathe are still a good spot, especially at your level to farm platinum. The TSS (The Serpent's Spine expansion) zones, many of which are Hotzones offer experience bonus, and have good vendor loot. There are also some descent quests to do in TSS zones for augs and clickies. The equipment prior to defiant was descent also, but defiant is everywhere and generally the best you can get for the effort / price until level 80. If cash is a problem, following the Hero's Journey Achievements will get you defiant level gear for free.

With "crap gear", Dranik's Scar might be a little tough for you (but maybe not, might as well try it). If it seems as though you're spending more time resting than fighting, you might want to hit up the old Kunark/Velious zones for your level. The mobs will have lower hitpoints and less damage per hit than ones from later zones but experience itself is determined by mob level + zone modifier. Stomping "easy" lvl 50 mobs in an older zone might be more profitable than pitched fights against "hard" lvl 50 mobs in new zones. Not that Dranik's is new these days but you know what I mean.

Plus the "drops everywhere" armor I'm forgetting the name of -- help me out here, guys -- would theoretically drop quicker in a zone where your kill rate is faster which may help you gear back up.

Edit: Defiant! Yther had it...

Same here, even while 8 years ago like 60% of the server wanted me dead and would train me if they could at any opportunity, I still miss them! (oh, that was on Sullon Zek, a PvP server. I quit EQ when graveyards were introduced).

Even while I'm playing the PvE game since returning, I still miss everyone I knew, so my friends, enemies and even the NPC's!

Damn you Everquest. You probably got me hooked till the 25th anniversary or so before I take a break again.

I would just head to goruky mesa since it is a hot zone. You will find plenty of plat drops and can upgrade some equipment thru drops. Defiant gear in not too expensive in the bazaar either. If you are on povar and find me on, I have stuff rotting in the guild bank you can have for your level.

As a 54 ranger you could just terrorize Blackburrow for a length of time to increase your Qeynos factions. Check the loyalty vendor in PoK as well... I can't recall if that faction is one of the ones you can get a boost potion for (not sure I would bother with this method myself).

The other option is just don't go near Qeynos. There is little in-game progression reason to need to, and roleplay wise you obviously hate them :)

Welcome back!

Me, too.

Feel free to /t:
Haemfast (80 Pally)
Dulkeen (61? cleric)
Pholou (68 Ranger)
Leeflok (58? Druid)

I'd be happy to buff, give armor or items you can use (if I gots 'em!) provide advice and whatever. As a bonus, I'm pretty knowledgable on TSS quests up through BFR. I can also make you the best bow and arrows that a 241 Fletching TSer can make. Smiley: tongue

I should mention I'm virturaly never on Saturday or Sunday due to wicked long weekend work hours; I am on most of the time Tues-Fri.

Larzuk and Panchaea: 80 Beast/40ish ranger respectively. I have an extreme amount of free time, so I'm on a lot even if I'm doing other things. Counterstalk away.

Jonwin, I'm a 51 Warrior on Povar that just returned to the game after quitting in 2001. That's right, 11 years! Needless to say, my gear was junk. I'll take some of that rotting equipment off of you if you don't mind. Name's Verseis Bloodfrost. Hit me up.

For all the returning players:

If you just /ooc saying that you're back from the dead, there are plenty of people willing to help you get back in the game. Even by joining a guild, you should be able to find great defiant gears that guildies didn't want.

Heck, just looking the bazaar I was able to find a nice waist piece with 33% haste on it for 200pp. (until I found out I can just do a hotzone quest and get one for free, LOL)

Some thoughts for returning players using the Bazaar:

Don't be hasty in buying things unless you know the market price or it is dirt cheap. Many old "uber" items can be near worthless now depending on what is currently available. If you find some interesting item, unless you *must* have it now, check in a few times and see how many are selling them and for what price. Weekends are often a time when some sellers may raise their prices due to the higher player volume. I've seen them drop in some cases during weekdays. Another good time to check is in late evening or overnight (U.S. Pacific - Eastern times) when more players have their merchants up. Drop in before bed and check items on your list and you may be surprised.

Also remember that MANY spells are now available in the PoK Library that were previously quested or difficult to acquire. Only the current expansion (or so) is not included. Note that the PoK vendors only sell Rank I spells for the more recent expansions. Rank I spell scrolls look like the old style. "Rank II" and "III" are added to the names of higher rank versions of spells (you will find them elsewhere on quest and faction NPCs).

Also keep in mind that at least on some servers rank 2 spells can be bought on the baz quite often for less than the rank 1 spell costs from the merchants.

Also keep in mind if you are not partaking in a Gold Membership Rank II spells will not do you any good. I purchased some thinking that since I was grandfathered into a silver account, and had some Rank II spells already in spell book, that I could save some plat and just memorize Rank II spells, knowing in advance that they would scale down to Rank I due to being on Silver Membership. This is not the case. Any Rank II spells you already have in your book will cast at Rank I but you will not be able to memorize any new Rank II spells unless you go Gold.

Availability of spells in Pok is really useful, consistent with the current "care bear" approach to MMOs. But I'm always amazed at how EXPENSIVE these spells are. I mean, I have plenty of plat but even then I will avoid trying to complete my spellbook for all my alts since I can't justify spending so much plat on lower level spells just for completeness. But then I can afford to PL up a new alt without that toon needing to buy new spells every level. Anyone playing a caster type starting out, or just playing one toon, might have to make some hard choices in terms of priority when "dinging" and going in search of new spells.

Maybe not entirely "care-bearish", after all!
