What are some essential, can't miss quests?Follow

Bazaar is pretty light on goods these days, especially on Vox. I'm a level 57 SK and was grouping with a guy yesterday who said I seriously need to upgrade my helm, bp, rings, and earrings. I admit I'm still wearing my Gloomingdeep Kobald Breastplate and Helm, although I also have some intricate defiant stuff in my other slots (belt, greaves, shoes, charm, gloves), so I didn't think I was doing too bad.

Anyway when I asked him if he had any suggestions for upgrades he said, 'Run quests'. He wouldn't say which ones.

I just got done looking through all the quests in Crescent Reach, Blightfire Moors, Goru'kar Mesa, Blackfeather Roost, and Plane of Knowledge and I have to say I'm not seeing anything that would qualify as an upgrade that doesn't also have a required level of 70 or higher, so I'm a bit confused.

I don't know about now (been away a while), but this used to be good to have https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=52354

and this aug for it https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=44456

however, you should be leveling in old sebilis or the hole for the gem & platinum drops, then use that money to buy elaborate defiant plate (level 59 requirement)

Goru'kar is a great place for making plat too. Each of the animal types drop at least 1 item that sells for 25-36pp.

Snakes - Fine Pancreas
Wolves = section of Pancreas
Bears = Shiny bear Tooth

Sounds like I'm doing fine.
I've already run several of the tasks for the Serpentkeeper's Charm of Lore. I also paid a visit to Slipgear but he wouldn't acknowledge me. (I was only level 5 at the time, not sure if it was because I'm an Iksar or what.)

Also been keeping up with Franklin Teeg's quests in PoK.

Money's not an issue; I've been cashing in the drops in Goru'kar and Blackfeather for awhile now and even did some Giant hunting in Rathe. I was just worried I missed something essential I should've been doing at level 50.
Thanks folks.

My vox Druid has sat at 55 for a bit to catch up gear. Visible armor I have either got the drop myself in Blackfeather Roost (or any zone with that level of mobs) or waited until a baz price was decent.

If you do the "tome of heroes" quest chain it gives you defiant quality stuff for the level of the quest. I wouldn't expect all of these quests to be updated on alla yet (many of them were old quests with the reward upgraded recently).

Nonvisible slots I used the merchant by the loyalty vendor in PoK that sells 51+ items. That takes care or ears, fingers, face and neck.

Back, waist and shoulders talk to Franklin Teak in PoK. He's the hotzone quest guy. The level 55 task in blackfeather is repeatable and gives you intricate defiant for these slots.

I looted a rotting shield in Stonehive at level 23 and have yet to find better... (it's almost as good as the defiant for this level).
I have the gloomingdeep weapon, the wand from doing a couple of level 5 quests in Crescent Reach, and the Staff from helping the necromancer drakkin on the 3rd floor of Crescent Reach... basically for the cost I have yet to find a decent weapon. Luckily I am a druid and haven't been meleeing for damage.

Only thing about Slipgear is that you will need to be at least in your 50's I would think to be sure you could run around all the Depths of Darkhollow zones. Most people did this quest around the level of 70. Corathus Creep, Undershore, and Stoneroot Falls are rather easy, but The Hive and Illsalin can get tricky because there are see invis and undead mixed in with the regular mobs, hence why you would want to wait until you have a group to go with you, or be much higher level to brave those areas.

You could probably do CC, US, and SRF sometime in your late 40's to early 50's, though. Which I think would still be a very decent charm aug.

Research TSS zones and quests, ie Blightfire, Stone Hive, Goru'Kar, etc. SoE actually did a really good job of populating that expansion with level-relevant quests with decent gear.

All of the times I've done Slipgear (admittedly it's been a while but I've run over 70 toons through that quest), if it wasn't a rogue, I used a goblin rogue shroud. All of the updates are easy that way. Rogue shrouds seem to automatically get rogue abilities when they open up (i.e. full speed sneak at 60, SoS at 62, etc). Probably the only good thing left about shrouds, honestly.

I don't know what Vox is like but keeping the tutorial BP until 57 on a melee class expected to tank? Wow, it must be harsh on that server. My newest cleric is 21 and I'm trying to hold off until 26 or so before using /claim and getting defiant pieces from there (Gift of Legacies Lost).

As far as can't miss quests, I'd put the epics up there. Sure, the 1.0s pretty much suck (except cleric) but it's a badge of honor. My Paladin at 87 spent three weeks doing Nature's Defender (Corruptor of Life is a....), and it went into the bank right after I took the screenshot. Now I'm going to go back and do all the various other quests I skipped on her (SoulFire, Fiery Avenger, Fiery Defender, etc). And as an SK, you want your 2.0, there aint no doubt about it.

Some other quests that come to mind:

Jonas Dagmire's Skeletal Hand (which you could probably get done or at least start right now).
The Binden Concerrentia (fabled version is probably beyond you for now).

...now I'm drawing a blank. :(

Haha.. I totally forgot about the Goblin shroud!

That's why I read these forums, lol.

You mentioning the binden concerrentia reminded me of this quest, that you should really do as a shadowknight (or any class without gate): https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=4541

You get Brick of Knowledge as a reward. Reagent-free port to PoK every 20 hours. https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=74202

I didn't know about that item that lets you port back to PoK... it'll be nice not having to run through Crescent and Blightfire every time I need something from there.

Thanks for all the great advice! This is exactly the kind of stuff I was looking for.

I just got back into the game after 7 + years and my level 41 Barbarian Berserker is still wearing a few pieces of armor from the tutorial but my strength and stamina are 255 and 230 respectively. Not sure about my armor class but I still think its MUCH higher then an equally leveled Berserker from 7 years ago. I was just a casual player for many years and never, ever came close to maxing out strength.

It appears that most of my armor upgrades are just random drops off of mobs... The bazaar is not much help and most of the items that I can afford are actually common drops for higher levels that have a required level limit.

I am probably wrong but this has been my experience since I came back a few weeks ago.

There are armor vendors in POK that sell upgrades for Plat. Most of the stuff is easily affordable with minimum plat farming.

Heck, I can make a ton of plat just by killing shrooms in Blightmore (cresent reach book). There is a leather mask and rare dagger that sells for close to 50 plat a piece. They are lore so you can only have one in your inventory but there is a merchant a few seconds away. Just rinse and repeat every few minutes...

Yeah that's Dragoneater. I pay him and his clones a visit every time I pass by the dragon carcass on my way through :).

Dragoneater is very handy on "rare spawns increased" weekends... especially if you are levelling a new character in a hotzone on a new server with no bank money and have a semi-fast /claim mount.

Let's just say he will be back up before you make it to sell the drop.

No source given for this info, but I may have experienced something like it recently...

I'm level 59 now and grinding AA's. I did end up finding an upgrade to both my helm and bp from random drops.

Then I noticed this in my /claim...

Gift of Legacies Lost

(one per character, Living Legacy 2008)
Summons a Satchel of Legacies Lost (7 slot, no WR) holding 3 Defiant armor, 1 Defiant weapon, 10 Potion of Speed, 10 Potion of Adventure (experience potions), and Book of Knowledge, a 5 charge clicky with Knowledge Gate. The Defiant items are all level appropriate; a level 65 will receive Elaborate Defiant, which has required level 59 and recommended level 70 (and a level 64 will receive the next rank down, Intricate Defiant).

Gets me a PoK port item along with helping out with my gear problem as well. Think I'll /claim it at level 65. This does have charges, so the brick is better, but I'm running out of time to complete that quest. Will have to try for it next year instead.

Try looking at the rewards for the CR Blightfire, mesa etc. in the new hero progression list then tell me you do not see an upgrade available.

As an SK you likely can do Worker Sledgemallet with ease. Partway down the thread is a lengthy walkthrough of various ways to obtain it in today's game.

It is a proc, which makes it more situational, but there's a PoK book right at the outpost in Overthere.

Thanks snailish. I did end up getting the Worker Sledgemallet and finished off the Sixth Anniversary quest. It was nice to be back in Kunark.
