I owe most of the inspiration for this to Vinney's houses. After I discovered I could skill up JC by making stone furniture, and realizing the flexibility of free forming house items, I made this. I'm really posting this both as credit to the cool housing system, as well as thanks to Vinney for showing me that housing isn't just placing a house on a plot.

Screenshot

Yeah it's maxed out at 75 yard items... I would pay for more item space SOE! I had no idea how hard it is to work within these limiting guidelines.

edit: oh sorry, if you want to take a look, it's located at E.Marr, 101 Terminus St. Colonial Farms. There's nothing *in* the house yet. It took me hours and hours just to work this out.

What the bloody hell! You can do that?!?

I'm gonna have to do some experimenting. My 80 Necro has a concept that borrows heavily from Raistlin Majere after subsuming Fistandantilus and becoming 'Master of Past and Present (replace Fistantandilus with Miragul). I wanted to try to create a Tower of High Sorcery type of thing but didn't know if that was even possible.

That's a really good looking design though. The floating spiral staircase is a nice touch.

Now to see if I can find/make 12 foot tall black metal fences.

You need to visit Vinney's houses to see all that is possible. There are a couple key ideas though:

Any placable object can be made tiny or huge and has free rotation and movement on all axes (X,Y,Z)

Objects can be sunk into other objects, with no clipping issues; smoke sources inside opal steins, to make steaming cups of coffee, tiki torches sunk into the ground to just use the flame in an oven.

Any placeable object can be used to be something else if you resize and rotate it with enough patience. You just have to think outside the box of what an object was intended to be and think, "how can I use that?"

Just toured 101 Terminus Street, Colonial Farms, E Mar. Owner: Rakish. Great work! You will find it Fun, addicting and can be expensive. lol. EQ drug of choice. Thank you for your compliments but there are a lot of talented artist in this little circle of the game.
Check out SoE’s site: http://forums.station.sony.com/eq/forums/show.m?forum_id=107
They just merged the forum with TradeSkills which a lot of us have the opinion that SoE made a mistake!

Side note there are three property sizes (Spaces allowed) 75 which you have, 90 the largest and 60 being the smallest. Of course cost and daily upkeep goes accordingly Same with Houses. The one room like what you have has 100 spaces. When you bought you will notice a same style house will cost more. That is because out of the 100 spaces there is room to store nonplaceable items. (like a second bank but lore items still apply) Same with the Three room house (300 spaces), higher the cost the more storage of nonplaceable items. Still takes up the space but is in storage. You can also buy crates to store more items and they take up only ONE space. Also Prices for houses very when you buy with plat and have to pay a daily upkeep. But you can buy a house with Station Cash and or Loyalty tokens and the daily cost is waved. There is a Dragon House you can win with LoN cards and upkeep is FREE too.

Remember the learning curve is “Trial and Error” don’t get frustrated. Walk away and come back later. Continue to tour other servers with a level one toon. Lot of Talent out there and the more you get into housing the more you will appreciate some of the creations.

Feel free to come tour my properties http://forums.station.sony.com/eq/posts/list.m?topic_id=181323 all of them are in Cedar Country Meadows. Better to see it live on Zek. Come make a toon on Zek, No PvP till level 5.

Yeah, this helps a lot. I guess my mind is still stuck with the limitations from the last player housing system I dealt with (City of Heroes' bases). I need to nail down my concepts (Kevela's was easy since her backstory was written right after she killed the Lich of Miragul). I wanna make a treehouse (ala Kelethin) for my druid with a natural spring underneath it on the ground. Just have to roll up some SC to see what I can come up with. I'd like to keep my rent at zero (just the plot costs) if at all possible.

I'm gonna check out some of the houses in that thread (the ones on my server are always locked and I want to get a full picture of a concept, not just the outside) but the other servers are possibilities.

Here is a Screen Shot of my Tree House: 103 Park Circle, Cedar Country Meadows Zek. Yard 90/90 House 100/100 owner: Ventodiavolo. Screenshots: http://s1092.photobucket.com/albums/i411/Vince_Cordi/April%202011%20Tree%20House/?albumview=slideshow

Unfortunatly at this time SoE chooses to make the FREE upkeep only on 3 room houses. which would loose the concept of a tree house except for the Dragon House which you get with the card game if you are lucky enough.

Wow!

I don't mind the 3-room house since that's pretty much my default. While I may not like the actual layout of the house's interior, I like the added space. Gonna have to roll a character on Zek now!

Great thread, my housing efforts thus far are poking my brother to work on his (I fully see the time/plat sink it can be, but fun).

Vinney is being modest. As far as these boards go Vinney = Housing.

Samatman has realized (as in made happen) what my brother has been toying with in respects to radically altering the outside appearance. I'll give him the JC tip... I think we even have a decently capable JCer somewhere on FV amongst our retired characters.

Thanks Vinney, I didn't realize that different plots had different space limitations. My char on Zek will be a permanent fixture in Cedar Country Meadows to come check out new ideas. As I upgrade, I will be looking at the SC and loyalty houses for the daily rent break for sure. I still find the controls for object manipulation difficult, but it takes practice clearly. I'm looking forward to my next creation already.

As for tradeskill creation of housing materials, you can use JC for stone, and fletching for wood. See this EQtraders page http://mboards.eqtraders.com/eq/showthread.php?34294-House-of-Thule-Player-Crafted-Furniture for what I assume is a complete list. I wasn't thinking of making parts for my house initially, I just saw "cheap skill ups" and started making stuff. It was when I had bags full of counters, dressers, and beds that I wondered how else I could use them. I don't have a price comparison, but the mats are dirt cheap, and you could easily get fletching and JC to 202 with these recipes. Bank, tradeskill container, and merchant are in the same room!!

I did try to sell some of my furniture in the bazaar but no bites. I don't think people even know they can buy tradeskilled furniture cheaper than buying it from vendors.

You can use different items to disguise your house like Samatman did. The Houses are concealed inside just either the door or doors and windows are exposed.

19 Ancient Elm Trees: Hobbits Hollow

or stone counters: Court House

You can also elevate house: Which sits on a bunch of upsidedown enlarged elm trees
Cliff House

Or Fort walls made from enlarged stone counters.

It is tricky to try to elevate your house and always best to find a property giving you 90 spaces. And then the fun begins decorating the empty shell of a house.

Whoa, those elm trees are just what I was looking for! Who sells those? I'm thinking if I put a bunch of those together, I can create the treehouse illusion and use wood counters or benches to create the stairs, yes?
