early levels fly by, espically if using a merc tank. they do slow down and you will be grinding way sooner than you want to be.

There's a lot more quests now than there used to be. The hero's journey is something to look into. It will guide you along and give you quests to do and some rewards as you go along. At level 5, you can also work through the tutorial, there are good quests in there that give nice rewards.

If you don't like quests, you don't have to do them. One of the greatest things about EQ, is you don't have to do hardly anything that you don't want to. However, not doing some quests will make other things more difficult, if not impossible, at least at any given time.

As an example, newer expansion often require questing for faction in order to be able to buy spells and/or tomes (disciplines), as well as to get access to higher level content. These restrictions are often lifted or modified once the expansion has become old.

Questing in general, in EQ, won't do alot for you. Specific quests can be valuable in one way or another. Epics are good example of worthwhile quests to do. Questing Info.

Everquest is one of the most grind-friendly games there is. If that is your preference, you will have no problem.

Quest xp and rewards in EQ are seldom (notable exceptions occur) worth the timesink.

However, the game is Everquest... the lore and thought behind many of the questlines is so much better than every newer game that I have tried (but then, in those games you are doing quests constantly to level and they just repeat 2 levels later to replace every item you just earned).

Just goes to show the differences of play styles with none of them being "wrong." I personally detest grinding and since at my current level for my main (level 80 after *only* 7+years *grins*) I don't find many quests; thus my time when I play EQ now is mainly working toward trade skill achievements/trophies. I'm a lifelong soloer or one who enjoys playing with one or two friends, so grouping and especially raiding isn't for me either.

On the flip side - I began playing WoW last November and what I LOVE about it are the quests - some are absolutely hilarious. I have leveled to 70 by doing nothing but quests - no grinding except for what is needed to complete a given quest. Blizzard does an excellent job with the quests helping to learn/advance the lore of the game, which I also love.

Before anyone throws tomatoes at me - EQ was my very first MMORPG (and only one until WoW), so it will always have a soft spot in my heart and I'll drop in to play here and there.
