Most servers are fairly well populated at the higher end (80+, maybe 85+ by now), and pretty barren below that (especially below 70). The the progression servers are capped at 60 65 at the moment, so their population is mostly focused around 50 to 60 65.

Time zone also matters. Most servers are Eastern to Pacific US prime time focused, but some have large populations in other time zones, or focus times. Many people play on Antonius Bayle server for the prime time Euro time focus, but may be located in other time zones, but only available to play during those times (US 3rd shift workers, as an example). There are a couple of servers with a large Australian population. Tunare has fairly descent post-Pacific time zone population (Hawaii, Australia, etc.)

There was a new server introduced called The Vox, that should be very busy for low levels for a while.

Today, Vox was so busy, it started locking people out of the tutorial. (That's what the hotfix was for.)

What about FV? I looked at the server population thing on everquest.com over the past few days and seemed like FV always had same or higher population than other servers.

That's an excellent point, actually. For those of you who haven't noticed, it now shows a visual representation of server population on the main page of http://www.everquest.com. The servers with the lowest populations at this moment are FV, Vulak, Trakanon, Zek, and Antonius Bayle.

Cool link, it looks like they approximate the populations by the amount of white in the little box beside the server name. As I type this:

So all white is a high-pop presently. (all the old regular servers and Fippy)

3/4 (Vox, FV) so probably considered medium-busy

none show as 1/2 presently.

1/4 so I assume low... (Vulak, Zek, AB, and Trakanon). Here's the thing though... AB is euro and right now is midday over there? So it should be low at the moment. Trakanon (which I have played on) has 3-8 regular baz traders... as the server is almost empty --I don't think it should have any white on the graph. I have characters on Zek... It is dead too (but did have a F2P tutorial spike so who knows...), but not as bad as Trakanon. I also have characters on Vulak (which is better than both of those yet all of them are graphically shown the same).

So, I don't put a huge stock in the little graphs since I think they are oversimplifying things, but if an older server starts to downgrade during 6pm-2am EST (traditional prime time) then I would think it was in trouble.

If I was looking for a busy place to start playing now... I wouldn't take less than a 3/4 full graph during my core playtime.

Just for some added guestimations - I logged into E. Marr at what I'd consider prime time and was placed into "General:4" With each instance of general chat capped at 200, that's 4 times more people than usual. I'm guessing SOE is patting themselves on the back over all this, despite the gross oversights that would have made this two times better.

WoW (pardon the pun). I've yet to see 4 general chats on AB though I would estimate that the population has doubled on AB also.. This is at around 4-5pm est (the latter half of the Euro prime time). Before FTP at that timeline there would have had 1 general channel with around 100 people. Since the launch, I would see up to two general channels while POK would have 50-75 people running around. Compared to 20-25 people in it before the launch..cannot speak for the guild lobby as I dont go there on a daily basis.Smiley: smile

I truly hope they fix the gross oversights soon also...before too many disgruntled returnees give up..
