/hotbutton name command_text
makes a hotkey with the name name, and the first line will have whatever you entered for command_text. For your example: /hotbutton Dismount /dismount will make the macro. If you want more than 1 line, after you place it in a hot bar, right-click on it to bring up the macro edit for that button.

You can also start one by going to the socials page (Ctrl+O) of the actions window, and right-clicking on a blank social button.

EDIT: Was using < instead of [ :-(

Thank you from me as well, Yther. I've only ever made macros using a social key. Had no idea it could be done another way.

Follow up question: Is it possible to put a spell gem on a hot button even if it is not memorized on the spell gem bar? It didn't work in the past, but I recently was reading about a particular Pally spell that some use and others don't and a comment was made - "...at least stick it on a hot button..." which *seemed* to indicate the spell could be made into a hot key without taking up spell gem space.

Or I misunderstood the comment, which is entirely possible. Smiley: lol

You can't access any spell without having it memmed on a spell gem. Maybe they were talking about AA (alternate advancement) abilities, some of which duplicate spells. Like druids get an evac "AA" which is just like their spell.

One other option is, as many buffers do this, is they have a buffs spell set and you can load them from a macro, then cast four of the spells in a single macro (assuming no fizzles). I'm getting called away, if you read this right away. I'll be back to edit an example, as I've forgotten what the macro command is to load a spell set. :)

EDIT: Example Quick Buff Hotkey Macro:
/pause 150,/memspellset Buff-Low
/pause 35,/cast 1
/pause 45,/cast 2
/pause 35,/cast 3
/cast 4

You may have to adjust the pause values. 15.0sec seems short to load a full set of spells, but it probably depends on which spells you are loading as well. The pauses before cast, you can get the time from casting time data on the spell info pages here or on Lucy, and add half a second (5) to it, just in case of lag or what not.

If you wanted to cast a full, or almost full set, depending on how many spell gems you have available, you could make another macro to cast 4 or 5 more buffs, after this one. :)

I didn't think so. The spell in question is the Paladin Yaulp III. On the ZAM spell info comments were the following:

Quote:
ok you 56+ pallies.. what do you say about this spell? do you use it? do you think it's worth keeping a casting slot? I never used the other yaulps myself and was just wondering what you all thought about this line of spells.

One of the replies was:

Quote:
I used the other 2 yaulp spells. Now however, my Strength is maxed and my AC is plenty high. I just don't think I want to spend the plat on it. If, however, your strength is not maxed, definitely use it, as a hot key, it is very useful:)
(Bolding mine for emphasis.)

Since these were posts from 2005, I didn't post there for clarification since the posters may no longer be in game - or play paladins - or look at old spell posts...lol.

The comment about using it as a hot key is what piqued my interest and question.

Wow! Thank you, Yther. I never got very "complicated" with macros. I have two buffing sets memorized and just load each and manually buff. Definitely have to try this!!

I haven't played a paladin much but it does look like they got Yaulp as an "AA" with this new expansion. If such is the case then the AA could hot hot key'd and thereby save a spell slot. However the post you reference goes way back before Veil of Alaris so I wonder if there is a Yaulp-type AA which precedes the VoA expansion one to which that poster was referring. We'll need an experienced pally to comment!

I make hotkeys for each one of my spellsets, and have them all together on one hotkey page. So I can quickly shift+4 to my hotkeys and then hit 4 for my buff set or 8 for my raid set, and so on. This method also takes advantage of the /memspellset command, but I don't usually do much in the way of needing to cast spells right away like buffers do (<<--ranger main).

Here's one thing I can add to this convo that should help some for loading spellsets that are similar, but you want to switch out only a few spells:

Only memorize the spells that are the different ones, and leave ALL of your other spell gems blank, THEN save your spellset. When you load your new spellset, it won't matter what is memmed in all of the other slots, as they won't be de-memmed by you memming the new set.

Example:

I use this spell lineup most in raids for dps

1)Announced Shots
2)Quick Heal
3)Heal
4)Swarm of Hornets
5)Focused Storm
6)Fire Nuke
7)Fire Nuke
8)Ice Nuke
9)Ice Nuke
10)Summer's
11)Dot1
12)Dot2

But on some raids I have to do roots and snares, so I switch to my snare set which leaves my spell slots 1-6 alone, and switches out slots 7-12 for the spells I need.

1)XXXX
2)XXXX
3)XXXX
4)XXXX
5)XXXX
6)XXXX
7)Ice Nuke
8)Summer's
9)Earthen Shackles
10)Vinelash cascade
11)Flusterbolt
12)Blusterbolt

I have a raidbuff set which demems my weakest dps spells (slots 10-12) and mems Predator, Gladetender and Burrs in their place, just in case some tank dies and wants atk and ac/ds. And because it's only the 3 spells, I can afford to quickly sit down to mem these, cast on the tank, then remem my dps spells without losing too much time.

1)XXXX
2)XXXX
3)XXXX
4)XXXX
5)XXXX
6)XXXX
7)XXXX
8)XXXX
9)XXXX
10)Cry of the Predator
11)Strength of the Gladetender
12)Shared Cloak of Burrs

It takes a little planning on your part to get your spells in the right order you want, but in the heat of a battle, you'll be glad you can switch quickly to another spellset without having to mem the WHOLE new spellset. Memming only half your spells takes a lot less time, lol.

A couple things to note about Macro's in general (using Yther's example for illustration.)

The only command you can put on the same line as another command is /pause. Yther has it correct where the /pause comes first, but it gets executed after (so the cast happens then the pause.) You need to account for the cast time of the spell in the pause, plus the global cool down (2 seconds or there abouts.)

Pause is in increments of 1/10th of a second. So pause 10 is one second. Sometimes I will put a /pause 2 in there to force a small, yet unnoticable, pause to allow for some server latency issues.

You can put spells in your spell bar in the macro, using the /cast command. You cannot put spells that are not memmed.

You can put other abilities in a macro (e.g., bash or kick), by using the /doability command. It used to be how they were in your ability bar. You can test it to see.

You can put AAs in there using the alt activate number, which is assigned to each AA. There's a list on the EQ website, that I'll link when I get a chance.

There are some other things you can put in there, like /sit, /say, /g, /gu, /1, etc.

You cannot call a macro from a macro.

There are some macro variables that help you. %T is your target. There are also ones for targets gender, race, gender specific pronouns, etc, so you can make it specific to the person, such as /g Casting a heal on that rotten gnome Yther, he who is a bad man. And it will change if you cast it on me, or on Guru or on someone else.

I obviously know extremely little about using hot keys. To date I only use the first and sometimes second set but only for things like Bash/Taunt/different weapon bandoliers, etc. for Pally and spell buffs that come from equipment for Druid. This thread is providing amazing ideas for utilizing the hot key sets.

Thank you, GreenShag, for that tip. Will definitely check it out!!! And I really appreciate the examples - it provides a schematic of sorts to follow.

I don't recall a Yaulp III AA and, as you note, the post was prior to VoA; heck, it was during the time I was still playing regularly, albeit a Druid and not paying much attention to Paladin spells, or even AAs at the time. I think the poster who said to hot key the spell just assumed that for some people it is a valuable spell and would therefore be memmed and followed up by saying to put it on a hot key for easy access.

Just my best guess after this conversation. Smiley: grin Thank you, Sippin, for responding and your input.

I recall seeing a list of commands somewhere that was pretty long, included emotes, etc. Anyone have a link to share by chance?

There are quite a few, but here a couple of good ones:

http://www.jaburt.com/eq/eq_commands.htm

http://www.onlinegamecommands.com/everquest/everquestcommands.htm

This last site I use for both commands and their shortcut key list for the original key setup, as I've changed many of the default key settings.
