Woot on level 71 snailish!
I was delighted when I logged in yesterday and "purchased" (the item for each day was free) the last of the "12 Days of Winterfell" items and received the congratulations message that I had completed each day and was being awarded a special item. I wasn't sure if I would qualify because I couldn't figure out the "system" until a kind ZAM poster clued me in the second day so I bought the first day's item on the second day.
The reward was a scroll to take to some NPC in PoK for a special merc. It was a bit confusing as the scroll itself said it had 5 charges iirc so I thought it was a merc that could only be used 5 times. Headed to the NPC, hailed her and the scroll disappeared from inventory and a message appeared that my paperwork was completed (or words to that effect). I then clicked on the NPC which opened a window to purchase either an aviak or clockwork merc - but at the same levels and prices as other mercs. Hmmmmm...a "reward" that I need to purchase. I was still puzzling over the "5 charges" in the scroll and wondered if I had somehow messed up the "reward" so I logged in my Pally who did not obtain the daily items, had her hail the NPC (nothing happened), then clicked on the NPC (nothing happened). Ok, so the reward *was* a special merc one had to buy. Logged my druid back in, attempted to purchase an aviak merc, but got a message I didn't have a second merc slot. Soooooo, now I had to purchase that from The Marketplace. (Very clever, SoE!) Finally obtained my aviak merc - it is an absolute hoot! When it isn't fighting it "clucks" - sort of.
My EQ time over the weekend was primarily spent with my druid & aviak merc at Infected Paw working on AAs. Nice loot there as well. My Pally purchased an updated 1H slashing weapon. Spent some time on "the other game" running myself ragged with one quest after another. Looking forward to the upcoming double xp weekend.
