I logged on tonight and although I can see toons, I have NO BACKGROUND.

No walls, floors..nothing but me and other toons.

Is it just me?

I have made NO changes to my display mode or anything else.

HELP?

Cross server problem. Not just one.

Also no background on character load screen.

All other online stuff works just fine.

Played a few sessions yesterday no issues. I just logged out my traders (were online overnight) and no issues. I doubt it would be a DX issue as I've been using different versions of Dx on 3 different computers. 2 with DX 10 (diff versions) and 1 with DX9, though I have the: d3dx9_30.dll file in my EQ folder on all computers to avoid any issues.

Once you can get in game, it would not be the Direct X dll file. I would try the old file check trick and see if it corrects the problem.

Sometimes when I have the game reduced to the taskbar for hours (like when in trader mode), I get bugs such as no sound, mouse movement issues and rarely I would experience background graphic issues like in your case. Usually I log out restart computer and run a file check from EQ launcher . This usually works for me.

Good luck.

I have the same thing happen, but I don't even have the game reduced to the task bar. When I leave my trader up overnight, when I return I get this weird "reverberation" sound when I do anything. It is most evident when I open bags in inventory or deposit coin. If I log that toon out and log in another without totally exiting the game, the issue continues. If I log out of game and start from scratch, it clears up.

Considering that the issue doesn't happen on another PC, I wouldn't think it's anything in your character UI files, but something that isn't synching somehow between EQ and your PC. I have no clue what it could be, but you might want to post on the SoE technical forums. I got my "unable to login issued after VoA launched" "diagnosed" there. Also, EQ techs post answers to questions as well.

Hope it gets sorted and you can come join us soon!

Thats true..Sometimes I have that exact symptom where unless I log out of EQ totally and restart the computer, the problem(s) persists no matter which character I log in or out. It has always happened on my (2)laptops with Windows Vista 64 home premium yet never on my older Dell XPS600 desktop with windows xp.

In my case I only have to log totally out of EQ and then log back in; I don't have to restart the computer. I'm running windows xp. I never used Vista but have heard of a lot of problems using it with Secondlife, so wondering if the OS could be contributing to your having to reboot.

I've heard really good things about Windows 7. Anyone been using that and any comments re: how it "plays" with EQ?

(How are you getting along with your issue, Bijou?)

I have run EQ under linux, WinXP, and now Win7-64bit. I had the most issues with linux and eventually gave up gaming with that as a host platform. When I upgraded to Win7, EQ of course wouldn't work - but as Hexeez said, once you download DirectX 9.0c or place the needed file in the EQ directory, it solves that problem.

I currently have no troubles with backgrounds or anything else for that matter but... past experience with graphic troubles in EQ and WoW have taught me that anything that stresses the GPU can alert you to a failing graphics card by odd glitches and artifacts. EQ practically pegs 1 core of my quad core CPU (it ignores the other cores entirely) and likely has the same effect on the graphics card. Try turning every graphic option down to minimum and see if your background returns. It won't take long and might help diagnose the trouble.

Installed latest video driver

Checked all my in-game settings

Think an uninstall-reinstall would make any difference?

ini files are clearly the root of all EQ evil and should be destroyed without prejudice. Glad you solved your loss of floors and walls, Bijou!
