Friday: got my maybe-quitting brother to roll a mage on a new server. We have a concept that might stick: it's a fresh start and we both are classes we haven't played past level 20 before (I'm a druid). Made it to level 3.

Saturday: Logged into the necro on TLP, got into Tower of Frozen Shadow. Kill efficiency is horrible, but it's TLP and I'm used to a post TSS necro (never played the class prior to that expac) which is huge. Being level 45 and horribly geared means I can't run my better version of lich, and sitting medding is super slow for a player used to having tons of +mana and +regen gear (and ooc regen).

Also on TLP, got my newest cleric (I keep rolling them and not getting past the newb note to guildmaster) made it halfway to level 2 in the Paineel newbie yard.

Sunday: Finally managed to get the 2nd floor key in TOFS. The angry Librarian didn't want to spawn it seems. I was actually getting better loot on the first floor (1/4 of a set of gnome skin for my little cleric). Managed to die at the zone out when zombie maids were faster than my exit plan. Fortunately I had bound in Iceclad.

Decided TOFS (the fun parts) were too hard for my current status so ran to Crystal Caverns. 30 some minutes later I got there... not really sure why they keep adding continents when there is huge zones 90% empty of mobs in the game...

Started working on my Froststone faction. There is several upgrades in CC that are probably worth getting.

Also got my Paineel cleric to level 2. He's already way too slow at killing level 2 mobs for xp. The necro is going to have to find him a better weapon...

At some point in the weekend I did login to FV and check baz. Picked up a chest item (for looks) I had been watching for awhile. No desire to play there atm though without brother. I'm having more fun with my other dabbling at the moment.

Are you on Vulak or Fippy? I was in Crystal Caverns most of the weekend. Really not doing anything much. Just killing some miners for the faction hits. Got some velium which is a plus, but that's not why I was there.

I also spent time on Saturday and Sunday clearing branches and tieing them up for the town to pick up. We had a lot more fall than I thought. I'm sore as he!! today. That was way too much like work.

Meant to pull out my cleric/war combo, but I just never got around to it. Maybe this week, we'll see.

Not much EQ this weekend, Been grinding hard recently to finish any remaining useful AA lines before VoA on my main and I think it's caused a little burnout. It may be time to break out an alt the next week or two and do something outside of House of Thule zones.

Sadly the most eventful part of the weekend was 8 hours of Sunday lost trying to recover my desktop from a horrible batch of malware. It borked the computer's Master Boot Record to the point it simply hung up with a blank screen at startup, save for a blinking cursor. This was something that turned out to be a much more time consuming fix for a computer that only had a Windows partition and no recovery disks. I suppose the only positive was having a second computer to research the problem on, and burn the windows recovery tool onto a disk with.

Spent 2 1/2 hours on Friday with a returning player. He hadn't played since Kunark.

I took him on a tour of PoK, baz, CR and clued him into augments, free TSing (CR), how to set up a trader, where the potion merchants are and showed what Magus' are for. Answered all his questions and gave up a couple K of plat so he could get weapons (he broke and had NO martial or 1HB).

I'm about to log on now. I need to help him get his Wayfarers' Stone.Smiley: grin

BTW, it may have been a her; I don't really remember as the toon was an Iksar.Smiley: tongue

ETA: Stromm server.

The grind from level 1 to 2 on the TLP servers is so awful that it easily kept me from trying a multitude of alts. In my opinion, if they were going to modify the exp curve on TLP, they could have engineered something more appealing - something that draws people in more as you progress. What we got was something that imposes a fairly hefty barrier to entry instead.

Put me on your friends list then. I have a 42 (or 43, I forget) shaman that could help. Selfur.

ahh cool! will do.

My erudite cleric is Roberts.

My necro remains Suzac, though I'm lacking motivation towards that class atm.

Back in the day, 3 friends and I that played regularly decided to mix it up a bit for fun and each of us began a toon in a class we had never played. It was a hoot...but not in a good way, although it was kind of funny. The Monk decided to play a Shaman and sat around saying "WHAT do all these spells DO???" Another caster chose to try a Warrior and kept looking for her spells then remembered she didn't have any and was saying, "All I do is hit things???" I forget what I and the 4th person played, but we were equally discombobulated. After one play session, in which I think we died repeatedly with the shaman frantically trying to figure out what the spells did, the warrior trying to look for spells, etc., we went back to "ourselves." LOL Hope it works out better for you than our experience. Smiley: wink

Something one of my guildmates did that I thought was a cool idea: She, her husband, and two of their RL friends, possibly another couple, had what they called "Kid's Night." They each began a new toon at the same time and ONLY played that toon one night a week and ONLY with each other. Kind of like the EQ version of friends getting together to play cards. My friend said they had the most fun doing that as they all leveled at an equal rate and really learned each others' play styles.

I'm glad it wasn't just me - it took like 6 HOURS for me to reach level 2 on Fippy! I agree that the TLP servers should be more appealing. I honestly thought it was going to be an "Old School" server with the same experience rate/rules from that time and expansions opening periodically.

We're only playing the new characters on Monday nights --together.

We've also just mopped up the tutorial, and expect to begin terrorizing Crescent Reach next Monday. This experiment is on Trakanon server... so very little in baz to tempt us (trader low was 1 trader on, the high we have seen was 5).

Was Trakanon one of the original servers that was merged with another? That name doesn't ring a bell. And what happened to the population? As a dedicated soloist sounds like an ideal server for me. Smiley: grin

IIRC,
Trakanon was a new "standard ruleset" server introduced around the same time or just after the server merge when Mayong 51/50 was merged or disbanded in 2010(due to low/dwindling population and many remaining people begging on EQ Players forums for a transfer off of Mayong). At the time, it seemed strange to me that the developers would add another "standard ruleset" server when they just merged the others. I have heard that the server(Trakanon) never really got the desired population.

If I wanted to solo only, I would consider "Firiona Vie" roleplaying server for the faster xp and the tradeable gear ruleset. Though once you choose Firiona Vie you cannot transfer off of it, unless it is merged or disbanded.

Hexeez's history sounds correct to me. Furthermore...

...Trakanon remains a "no transfer to" server. They allowed transfers off a while back after some forum wrangling (not sure it that is closed now or not".

It is a soloers heaven, as long as you truly can handle solo (i.e., skipping research only spells or doing the research yourself). There is some high level players, but thus far I have seen no evidence of a tradeskill economy outside of a bit of alchemy stuff.

There's really no guarantee the server doesn't hiccup merge out of existence at any point, but... for the moment that is actually a draw for what my brother and I are doing.

I do think Trakanon will be gone before FV... unless they normalize FV by merging it into Trakanon (that's actually the least disruptive move in the short term if they decide that FV ruleset is done). Of course the same argument could be applied to Zek.
