I im looking for a snare item or potion no damage. I learned the hard way spiders out side of hive summons, want to snare send pet and tank merc in. Let them beat mob without being summons and killed. I can heal pet so between pet and merc should be ok just need a way to snare without damage so mob does not summons and run away and bring adds.

This makes no sense... if they're beating on the mob, nobody will be summoned, they will be in melee range.

If you're kiting, it doesn't matter if the snare does no damage, the pet and merc will do damage, and you will be summoned.

Please clarify what exactly you're trying to do.

I was or trying to snare the spider so it will not run away and bring back adds. I figured let pet and merc beat on mob and I heal pet once and awhile. I had sent pet in and merc waited until mob was down to about 90% health then snared it because never seen summons message. I snared the spider next thing I know was summons, killed trying to avoid that if possible. I wish was a way to tell from the beginning which mobs summons or not, I know all the zombies summons.

I know Rangers and Druids get a no damage snare spell so they can kite if they need to, thought necro might be able to get potion, spell, aa or item to do the samething.

Yes I am having a hard time understanding the issue as well. I think he means he wants to pull with the snare and if he uses a snare that has any damage on it at all before the merc and pet go after it the mob will summon him.

If you are level 70 I think you can get the AA Encroaching Darkness. I play a SK but I think necros get it at 70 also. It is a no damage snare and it works really great.

I wish AA's were better listed on here. It would be nice to see the along side spells or in their own searchable category. At least to have them with their class and level restrictions.

Hi ,

Tatankaseventh is right. The Necro doesn't need to operate that way.

At level 70 your Necro has access to an AA no damage snare called "encroaching darkness".

If its named your dealing with solo and you want your pet to tank the named you could pull with a dispell spell such as "cancel magic"(better if the named is buffed) or "Encroaching Darkness" AA(or normal snare spell with damage). Using a snare to pull with is especially better if indoors with warping issues resulting in Adds.

After the pull spell lands and the mob is rushing for you, send pet in(pet taunt on and mage geared if possible) ..aiming for pet to engage at a safe spot then you could FD,stand up and cast Encroaching Darkness(if you used a dispel magic to pull),then a DOT spell and dump aggro again by FD'ing..stand up DOT..FD..Demand for Blood..FD..DOT FD,heal pet,DOT,FD etc,etc while the pet takes agro. Many Necro's use different permutations of spells during such encounters (including for pulling depending on the situation but the strategy for soloing a named is more a less the same.

By FD ing at intervals as you cast DOT's and the "Demand for blood" spell in between you can dump some agro from the Necro while the pet tanks and takes agro.Once you get the 'feel' of it your Necro could ramp up the dps and kill the mob faster without getting agro.

Hope this helps.

EDIT: Yes Reverent beat me to it (grin) re: Encroaching darkness"..great option for the Necro especially as it frees up a spell gem for higher dps dots etc. I rarely load a snare in a spell gem nowadays.

etc.

To Original Poster: Simply don't snare until the tank or pet has good aggro and the mob is relatively low health (less than 50%). Feign Dead immediately after snaring, if still getting summoned at such low health to lose aggro.

Potions are Suspension of Slime which are thrown items.

Hope this helps some.

Generally ignored in the necro toolkit is Insidious Retrogression .

It may or may not meet the original posters requirements as it does damage (not aggroless). Posts in the thread suggest it has very sketchy results.

This is excellent +1. They are not all there or updated but a lot of them are. I never knew this existed. If you search for the AA name you can find it but it doesn't seem to link you back to this sort of information.

I apperciate all the help, now that I know that aa will give it a try. I will use the fd method as well. I only use warrior merc because cleric only heals won't fight or defend itself, wiz nukes and is cloth class, rogue have not tried, figured warrior would be better than the rogue at melee anyway.

I was hoping when I did it, that people would help fill in the AA costs, levels, and expansions for each rank, but, although I haven't checked in several month, no one has.

https://everquest.allakhazam.com/wiki/EQ:AA_Costs Explains the source spreadsheets anyone can edit, or they can edit the wiki pages, and I'll put the info into the spreadsheets. I don't have the newest expansions after SoD, and is why the newer AAs are nt listed nor the higher ranks.

I think there are some other special AAs missing as well, such as the Enc ones for Enchanting metals, and some of the ones from progression, that I never got around to finish collecting / determining. As I got the lists by making toons of every class, and doing /alt list command on each, then later after getting them all into a spreadsheet, looking at the in-game AA window to determine how many ranks there were upto SoD expansion.

I had also planned on making separate wiki pages for each class, and listing suggested progressions, as well as listing all the general, archetype, class and special AAs for that class in a sortable table, with categories, such as Spell Damage, Melee Attacks, Melee Damage, Pets, Heals, etc. so it would be easier to find specific lines of related AAs. But since, no one helped on the Costs portion, I never got around to finish categorizing them.

I had planned on using Magelo to get the costs of each rank, but never got around to that either.

As far as linking back to one another, it's just not quite obvious. The 3 tab pages link to each individual AA, via the costs column number, and individual AA pages link back to those pages via, the Tools - What links here menu item. On the 3 tab pages, the AA names that have pages under skills, are linked to that specific page for discussions about them.

If anyone has suggestions on how to make the linking more obvious, without taking up a lot of space, I'd be happy to edit the macros I use to redo the wiki pages in an improved way. Also, any info on the new AAs and ranks, would be great as well. Either editing the wiki pages themselves, or the original spreadsheets, or PMing the info. As I'd still like to get the separate class pages done, if I see enough interest in it.

OK Yther, so I see how to get from the AA pages you linked but when me and others do a search for the AA such as encroaching darkness we get this page as the result: https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/spell.html?spell=16106

On that page I do not see how to access the spreadsheet information; am I just missing it? Under classes it has none. As far as I can tell it doesn't even show that it is an AA. Instead of or perhaps in addition to doing the spreadsheet (which is awesome by the way) can you just list all the AA's as spells and put the information such as costs, rank, levels, etc. under the same page I linked or is that a whole lot more work? I only suggest this because I didn't even know the AA stuff existed on the site (and I have been coming here for some time) and the search function on Zam is so good I am more likely to just search for the AA in the search box rather then go to the AA page.

If not I will look at these sheets and at least try to work on the SK for sure and perhaps the Enchanter and Shaman since that is my box crew.

Ah, I see you mean from the site search. Yea, I just did the same search, and thought it'd come up under the Wiki tab and it sort of did. It showed the AA_Costs_Q page, 'cause it has Quickened Encroaching Darkness, but didn't show the A_Costs_E page.

However, if you do know the name of the AA, you can simply use EQ:AA_Costs_ followed by the first letter (or A if it's a number), then #aa_name using underscores instead of spaces. It's not a perfect solution, but it works, until the site search works better. If you don't know any part of the name, you're out of luck at the moment, as far as I can tell (and is why I wanted the separate class pages with AAs sorted by category), but if you do know part of the name, you Ctrl+F on the general, archetype, and/or class pages.

You might (or I may) post in the feedback forum about search not showing the appropriate wiki pages for the AAs. As the developers, don't look here often. As a developer is needed to make the search work better, and probably for the other idea about putting the other info there as well.

EDIT: I posted there, and they're looking into why it's not indexing the pages correctly. I doubt they'll be able to easy add the info or even link it to the spell pages, but I'll add a note to my post about it, and see what they can do.

Info on the original spreadsheet can be found at https://everquest.allakhazam.com/wiki/EQ%3AAA_Costs and the spreadsheet itself at: http://www.editgrid.com/user/yther_ore/Alternative_Advancement

EDIT: Newer AA page and the individual AAs come up on the Wiki tab of the search results page now: https://everquest.allakhazam.com/wiki/EQ:AA

This thread is just further proof that we need to use our rating powers for good... how much of the wiki info is because of Yther? I shudder at the thought.

I've done a couple of forums posts with a quantity of links before (i.e., focus effects for TLP) that felt like they took an age to put together, and that is nowhere near the amount of work Yther is alluding to in respects to the AA wiki pages.

Sidenote: In response to Yther not having past SoD --I haven't splurged on SoD yet, but I'm tempted to by VoA just to get up to speed on expacs. The irony being that I'm not sure how much I will be playing (if at all) come December. I've done that before (OoW, DoD) bought an expac and unsubbed shortly after.
