LOVE IT!!!! "Putting on my helm to hide my eyes" is priceless! My very first EQ toon was a High Elf Paladin until I switched to Druid. I still bring her out every now and then for fun. I well remember sitting forever waiting for some giant to spawn for the Jboot quest.

Two other oldie but goodies:

"If Denny's Was Like EQ"

http://www.guildportal.com/Guild.aspx?GuildID=94214&TabID=808333&ForumID=439362&TopicID=4667285

And the ever-popular, still makes me laugh out loud "Has Anybody Here Seen My Corpse" (still shudders looking high and low through the woods of Faydwer and finally giving up and hiring a Necro.

(I still want to find the "Banjo spawning grounds" lol)

OH!!! One more...someone in my guild years ago posted this link and said, "Make sure you watch it all the way to the end - there's a surprise." I think I lasted about 20 minutes until I posted back, "How long IS this video anyway?" much to his amusement at my gullibility.

"Badger"

http://www.badgerbadgerbadger.com/

There was a video that was bitter-sweet I had bookmarked on my old PC. The music was Enya's "Only Time" and was a history of friends who met on EQ, their experiences, creating a guild, then gradually people leaving the game. For its time it was very well done. I have not been able to find it again; it may not even be posted now, but if anyone knows which vid I'm speaking of, I would LOVE to see it again!

Thank you for posting this, Rickrambo. Anyone have more Classic EQ videos/stories?

Haha love those. I remember the Denny's one from a long time ago. This still cracks me up!
Annoying kid's corpse0 says 'My mother will avenge my death!'

YES! I've had some experiences at Denny's in RL eerily similar - especially camping the waiter and having an annoying kid around...lol.

My favorite lines from that piece:

*Your faction standing with Juan Valdez got better

*You have slain Annoying kid!
*Your faction standing with Disciplineless Mothers got worse
*Your faction standing with Denny's Customers got better
*Your faction standing with The World at Large got better

*Off-duty police officer says 'Let this be a lesson, that none can withstand the wrath of the San Diego Department of Public Safety.'

And my absolute favorite:

*Scrambled eggs looks at you threateningly - what would you like your tombstone to say?

Threads like this always make me think of Fansy the bard (or however he spelt it).

What's great about the Badger video, is that it came out in like 2002-3 or something, but it wasn't until Underfoot that SoE decided to use the video as a "raid strat".

If you count the number of "badgers" that get spoken in the song, it matches up to how many you have to kill in the badger waves, lol. And then the Snake, the snake...oooohhhh... the snake.

I hadn't seen the "Fighting Solo" before. Thanks for posting that one.

I tried looking for the "Goodbye EQ" video, but my 10 mins of web scouring didn't come up with anything but a few posts/threads referencing it.

Oh wow! I had no idea that SoE actually used the Badger video. 2002ish would have been about the time my former guildmate posted it.

I found several "Goodbye EQ" videos, but none was the one I mentioned. I did find this while searching and thought it was cute and well done. Apparently the third part was never done...a cliffhanger...lol.

Is that an NPC in game or someone who posted on the thread? Inquiring minds want to know. ;)

Short version: When the Sullon Zek server (the Good guys vs Bad guys PvP server) was launched, it was supposed to be a "no rules" server; you could spawn/corpse camp, train and otherwise "grief" as long as you weren't exploiting/hacking. You were also safe from PvP until level 6. Fansy figured out that, at level 5 with Selo's, he could create some hellacious trains. The rest you'll need to read for yourself.

Swamp Defense is pretty amusing as well.

Also, to toot my own horn, my account of the Battle of Stonebrunt from lo' so many years ago...

Thank you for posting that, Jophiel. Amazing reading. I read all the Fansy material and your story...I'll come back after a rest to read Swamp Defense.

How did Fansy get the PoD to kill everyone? I'm assuming that can't be done on any but a PvP server. I like how people were begging Fansy to let them play in peace and offering plat...lol. Just my gut feeling, but his manner of speech and the way he could handle people makes me think he was older than 14.

God, it's been years but let me try and remember. It was a quirk with how charm and faction worked where Fansy would charm the bard NPC and have her attack people, thus putting them on her aggro list. The Priest of Discord would then assist her and kill her target. I'm not sure exactly why the PoD was "allied" with her but he did the same thing in GFay. You could charm a bat and send it to attack a guard by Kelethin, the guard would attack the bat and the Priest of Discord would flip out and start fighting the guards. This didn't happen if you were just running from a bat you were losing a fight with and a guard killed it, it had to be charmed. That was fun as you'd get a big battle royale between the PoD and several guards with the PoD winning more often than not.

Anyway, it's since been fixed and what Fansy was doing wouldn't have been possible on a non-PvP server since you couldn't send your charmed target at another player.

Swamp Defense is more just one troll's recounting of PvP in Innothule but the story of him & his friend fighting the Magic Resistant dwarf still makes me laugh.

Fansy is a controversial figure in EQ history, since if you stand back from it a few things are apparent:

-ridiculously intelligent player to figure out multiple in-game actions that caused such a backlash
-"anything goes" was falsly sold... Fansy should have been allowed to do what Fansy did (on that server of "no-holds barred pvper").

Fansy as an end-game boss in the expansion after VoA would convince me to get to max level. Just recreating Fansy's documented exploits as a multi-stage raid encounter would be priceless. PoD and Sand Giants oh my... besides there are some that miss Oasis of Marr, this would be a good excuse to develop a new version.

I'm homing in on the video I mentioned previously - an EQ memories video. I found a website that referenced it:

http://www.fohguild.org/forums/mmorpg-general-discussion/5948-great-eq-video-2.html

The link for the guild Altered Destiny is no longer functional, but from this info I recall the "Muffin" character and what guild she was in. It is definitely the one I'm looking for since this link also references Enya's "Only Time." More searching with this new info has still not located the video, but at least I now have more search terms.

In the meantime I found a website with EQ vids that seems interesting:

I remember this one, it still exists. I watched it a few weeks ago but dang if I can find it fast for you. Central character was a Gnome, correct?

EDIT: I see the entry above. Not the one I was thinking about.

Edit 2: Not Enya, but this is the one that came to mind. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_b9n76F5KQ
