I am an 80 War and am wearing abstruse ironhand armor. I have noticed that many of the stats are shown in red. The stats are also lower than the base stats of the item. Can anyone explain why this is?

Take the Power Supply out of it's slot and they should all return to base. You should also see some in green if I remember correctly, where the Power Supply is raising them.

Depending on the Power Source, some will give negative results in some spots.
Remember to use metal PS (if you can) as a tank, as it's max AC.
Your gear/augs should keep the rest of your stats/saves at max while using metal, btw.
