EQ Things you think you remember, but they were changed so long ago now you doubt yourself?

Here's mine:

(Keeping in mind that I came around PoK era so didn't do tons of running through Kunark when you had to run through it all).

In Fironia Vie zone, at the cave system that leads to Dreadlands... my memory tells me this rather larger network of caves used to be populated with mobs. I even think I recall it being brutes.

---accurate or bizarre dream?

Plane of Hate mobs used to assist and aggro like mad.

Kurn's Tower skeletons used to assist and aggro like mad. Now it seems some do... occasionally.

One I am more certain of: Nifiliks in Gunthak used to be really big, especially in contrast to the quest lore involving them.

Anyone else got some to share?

I think you're confusing the tunnels in Warslik's Woods and Firiona Vie, seems like there are some other zones with brutes in the tunnels as well, but I remember WW mostly 'cause of going to Crypt of Dalnir alot, which is similar to running to DL alot. Although, I think there was a pathing bug in FV tunnels for a while. I remember there being mobs roaming in there at times, but seemed mostly like goblins and drachnids, of which there is one of them every once in a while even today.

I can't think of much that I remember incorrectly or unsure about at the moment. However, I do remember dreaming of orcs, as well as bats, wolves and skeletons alot, when I first started playing. I liked the way the orcs looked in my dreams, similar to the old models but much smoother and less blocky, and is probably the reason I don't really like the new models that well.

Niflik's in Gunthak seemed to be slightly larger than they are now to me as well, but maybe that was just lack of levi (SoE). I was 65 for quite a while before I ever started liking levi. LDoNs I think it was when I finally got around to liking it, 'cause SoE would last the entire mission generally, versus SoW always wearing off too soon, and before Run 3 and/or Schrew that bit.

The old stamina system used to bite pretty hard, especially for long fights, or for having to swim or do pretty much anything that used up stamina.

Yther Ore.

Even more random... now I am picturing the tunnel to dreadlands with human-model mobs aggroing me as I run to that pok book... maybe it was drachnids. Shrugs...

Such a large cave system to be always empty, but I will agree it is a template they used in a bunch of places.

---

I also remember the flesh-hunter (sic) mob in field of bone that was wayyyyy underconned. For years those things would spawn and take out the whole newb pit area. They fixed that a while ago.

The caves in Fv would have a roaming froglok. The drachnids were outside the caves. If you zoned into the tunnels and found them it would have probably been from a train. Keep in mind I got kunark about in 2003 the christmas after luclin came out.

High hold pass and keep

Outside there seem to be a lot less mobs then when I started. I recalling camping at zone to EK with 3 friends, and we, and a group slightly up the path managed to constantly pull/kill for hours on end around lvl 14-18.
Even the roaming gnoll that wandered between gnoll camp and zone to EK seems to have vanished.

Same inside, the basement, I never managed to get down there, it was hell to get a group, and most people would die as I spend quite some time (and made great PP!) in the bank buffing and binding people.
Once I was lvl 75 or so I went back one day when bored to have a look, and lo and behold the basement only has about 10 mobs, if that! Was it the same in 2000 or did they just remove them as no one goes there anymore?

There also used to be a mob/ghost in the library room just above the bank, if you went in there it would kill you, have looked for it too when I went back and nada, not once did I see/hear it.

EDIT: Another thing I remember is that thee was a rogue guard in NK, part of a quest to get an earring (?) with awesome stats in 2000. Never saw him, but never seen him either in last 11 years. Is he gone?

@Renaissance: Look up the Qynos Badge of Honor. Still the best quest line I ever found in EQ, despite being buggy as hell and despite the fact that you run a serious risk of ruining faction with the good guys to get a badge of honor from...the good guys. Go figure. If you have a 30-ish toon, you should go do the quest and have an evil friend help you at 'that' stage. Great fun, IMO.

Whitman,
I'll check but I think the guy actually dropped something, not a quest now I think of it. But after 11 years not sure either lol, just remember he was supposed to wander from camp to bridge and back, but was a super rare spawn

Same as the mummy in Ro, neve saw him either till they revamped it.

There was an Sk guard in NK you had to kill to begin the qeynos badge of honor quest. He dropped a shield to be turned in. The badge was a neck item and great for the time.

You actually collected his cracked helm for the turn in.

That was sort of petty on my part..thanks for reminding how much I enjoyed the whole quest line (except I never did the last pert in JP).

Another quest I liked which for some reason EQ changed how it played out was the executioner one where you had a bartender executed for treason of some sort against the qeynos guard.

It used to play out that you could follow along with a female barbarian executioner into the bar where she fought and "executed" the bartender, no she goes in and after the verbal exchange its just over.

CC, I don't regard it as petty. You were correcting information I put on the board. That was the right thing to do.
"Even Caesar nods" as my late Latin teacher, at the time Fr. Vincent Galeone was fond of saying.

I got all but the last step done. Wiped twice to the mobs at the final step.
