Remaping the semi-colon keyFollow

#1 May 30 2011 at 2:11 PM Rating: Excellent
I have searched for info on this to the point I am ready to pull all my hair out and glue it to a fish.

I want to use the ; key for a hot key.
Not to mention accidentally hitting it causes problems if you don't notice it.
Problem being it is used for some of the chat commands.
Is there any was to change this?
Or are we stuck and not able to use a different key for chat commands?

Thanks tons for any help.
My hair thanks you too.
So will the fish.....

Well first you may have to remap the chat commands that use a semi colon. IF that can be done.
Then you remap the semi colon key to your hotkeys.

I logged into Vulak and checked this...

for me (conceding I might have missed it in the long lists) I didn't see ; listed under any of the key-bindings under options. In other words it looks unused.

So I got out of options and hit ; ---it puts you into the chat window line is /say. I kind of laughed because I have never used that key.

So I am wondering if it is possible to remap ;

I think semi-colon (;), slash (/), and enter are all preset as chat and automatically activate the chat bar. The only way to get around it for the semi-colon, that I know of, is to use a different key or use a toggle key with it, such as Shift, Control, or Alt.

Yther Ore.

Yes, / and ; function alike. ; is used for stuff like cross server tells and crap.
I am betting it is not re-mappable, same as the /.
Which is totally stupid.
That means we have a wasted key.
I'd rather map the ~ for that function so I had the ; for something useful, like hot keys.
Even better, be able to turn it off completely.
For how often I use that chat function having to hit enter followed by the ; would be just fine.

Oh well.
I hope there is a "magic" ini setting or something to turn that off, but I am betting I am stuck with it.

Well thats odd I just mapped ; just fine.

First tried on the Achievement toggle, and then on Hotbutton. It worked like any regular key.

The / would not map though.

Just in regular ALT O, then Keys Tab.

Huh?

Well that's strange.

I mapped the ; to the open all bags function.
When I hit it the bags were opened and so was the chat line.
At that point all bags were open and the chat line was open with a ; in it.

And the ; was not in red on the key bind pane so it was not bound to more than 1 thing.

I guess I need to do some more experimenting.

[EDIT]

Just did some experiments.
No matter what I bind the ; to it always also opens the chat line and puts a ; there.
So I either have to backspace and hit enter to continue or just hit enter and get:
Usage: /chat <text>

Hmmmm.
Is there a site that has an up to date listing of the .ini file commands?
Everything I have found so far Googling is ooooold.

I would have known that in 2006, but have not played since then.
No, I did not have this issue back then as I did things differently in those days. Now days I have to play things a different way.

Anyway, thanks for all of your help.

[EDIT 2]

Bummer.
Still not found any way around this.
I suppose I could install a program that allows me to remap my keyboard.
I really don't want to do that just for a game.
