I downloaded the game on Elne's computer. The sony file that shoes up in her program files does not have a map folder. I created one and transferred the mapquest maps into it. No maps show up in game, specifically the crushbone and lower guk ones.
I started the game from screen. Log in gives the options to look at game files. The down load version does have a file "atlas" that does have some maps in it. I transferred the map folder to the atlas folder, no maps in game. Transferred the maps individually into the atlas folder, no maps in game. Any ideas?
Elne's system uses Win 7.

You need to set the folder to have read and write permissions. Right-click on the maps folder, select Properties. On the first tab, uncheck Read-Only. In Vista, you also need to go to the Security tab, select your user name, click Edit, select your user name on the new list, in the bottom list, uncheck any Deny, and hit Ok, hit Ok.

Windows 7 should be similar. See this link for a bit more thorough explanation than what I said. Also, if you're using a zip program, like Winzip, you can try running it as Administrator (right-click on the icon, and select Run as Administrator). If you're copying the files, use Cmd.exe (Command Promprt) and run it as Admininstrator, and use xcopy command at the prompt.

If none of this works, you may need to take ownership on the user you log in as. The command is: takeown "c:\program files (x86)\sony\everquest\*.*" or whatever path is appropriate. You can look here for more details on the command. I've never had to do this, but if you have the game installed somehwere like c:\users\ ... \everquest, then most likely you will. Of course, I keep EQ in c:\games\everquest to avoid ownership problems and administrative problems.

Thanks Yther, that may do the trick. Have undone the read only box, loading game now.
If only you could figure out my keyboard problem.

Not sure if you have got the maps fixed but i had trouble with vista and maps. After a long time of trying to get the maps i learnd i had eq in some differnt spots. The one that worked for me was in program data not program files. Im not sure why but when i dowloaded the maps to program data the maps worked.
