Sony not being forth coming...Follow

#1 May 08 2011 at 9:08 AM Rating: Default
I dont believe Sony is being forthright in reporting what is going on..

1. By the end of this month the cost to "repair" the system will be well over 2 Billion.
2. The system will come back on line in stages, i.e PS2 first because most customers, EQ last, so figure some time end of June.
3. Thier PR sucks... lack of absolute truth and flow of new information just makes them look like they are hiding something.
4. The stocks have dropped dramatically.. another couple Billion?
5. What about the law suits, another Billion?
6. Are the FBI and other government agencies investigating them for "Data Security Negligence" ?
7. And finally lost revenue for one month world wide, another Billion?

They have a lot going on and far more information available than they are telling us, thus they are being deceitfull.

Maybe they wont be able to survive this attack....who knows.

Waiting on news Sony...up to you.

1. Source?
2. Source?
3. Care to provide even one example of where they have lied in this matter? As far as the flow of information, what do you expect them to tell you? It's an investigation, they aren't allowed to talk about a lot of what is going on. Even if they could, talking about exactly what happened is a security violation in itself, and that's what you're whining about isn't it?
4. Maybe the stocks have dropped (haven't bothered to look), but care to provide the details on the monetary conversion? Or is this another baseless claim being passed as fact?
5. What lawsuit? Sony isn't at fault and I highly doubt you'll be able to prove negligence.
6. The FBI is investigating a cyber attack on a system located in the US, that's their job. Or was this an attempt to be funny?
7. Yes, they are losing revenue but again, source for the monetary value?

What exactly would them giving you more information than they already have serve to accomplish? Are you a digital forensics specialist who is offering their services? Are you a network specialist who works with IDS that is capable of recovering their deleted logs? Yea, didn't think so.

Your post was typed with tongue in cheek eh?

Just in case you were serious:

And exactly what does Sony owe us in the way they *report* to us? To let us know in what direction they are going in finding the culprits? Yeah, that makes sense..shakes head.

If I owned Sony the games (In getting them up and running)would be last on my list.

Now I am willing to sue but NOT Sony but the blasted hackers who have no human compassion.common sense/respect for their fellow human beings cause they most definitely knew it would effect the players/customers.

Of course the stocks dropped-as it does when ever a company gets hacked etc. Not sure why that point was made in your post.

And we know definitely Sony was security negligent? Hackers are hackers-minute they know something new is out there for security they feel the need to bust it open. Heck, even government offices etc have been hacked.

Another gimme on the lost revnues but not clue what that has to do with your original post about Sony not being forthcoming.

What exactly do you wish to hear at this time?

We know Sony was hacked.

We know players info may have been compromised (Mine hasn't-took one call to my bank to make sure it doesn't in the future).

We know the games will not be up for maybe another week or three.

We know the FBI etc are involved and like they will allow Sony to make a statement at this time.

We know once back up we get a months free plus.

This is not the first nor the last company to get hacked....It is just this time it hit people who play games by Sony.

It is the hackers who should be getting slammed at this time. Not Sony.

As I've stated elsewhere I do not and never will work for Sony. I love the career I am in..:)

Wow, angry responses, didn't relize people so thin skinned.

They do owe me an answer, I am a 10 year loyal customer.

I entrusted them with credit and personal data worth more than 10k.

Yes I am upset with criminal behaviors of hackers, just like I am upset with corrupt government.

Not ficticious numbers, public traded company...look it up.

Sony has provived a very good source of entertainment at low cost for many tears, they just got complacent.

They have many proffesionals on the payroll making big bucks to prevent this...there are no excuses.

I sincerely hope they fix it...I enjoy the down time after working 70 hours a week servicing my customers... with no excuses.

maybe thats just me?

Well as Ive read in other places... Sony cant tell us much for a few reasons....

1) Its an On-going investigation. To speculate would be irresponsible of Sony and if they were wrong in their speculations then people would say they lied to us.

2) How would Sony know how long it is going to take to fix this problem? Its not like you go out and buy a new program, insert into CD player, install and BAM! all is good. It takes as long as it takes. Some ppl are posting that servers will be down till end of June! ROFL I wonder where they got that info. Maybe it will but Im pretty sure Sony has not given any ETA to the public. Least none that Ive found yet.

3) Sony is, (Im sure) in the process of "beefing-up" their security system in the hopes to prevent this from happening again. In the 11+ yrs Ive been playing EQ this is the FIRST time something even remotely close to this kind of thing has happened. No I am not happy with my account info being hacked but lets face it... there ARE low-lifes out there that do nothing but try and hack into others info.

Id like to know where Saitlillor got his/her info as to the order in which things will be restored also. Im just guessing here but I would think once Sony puts in a new security system and feels it is worthy all the down Sony sites will be up around the same time.

Now as to what we are required to do once EQ servers are back up is pretty obvious to me... 1) Change account password ASAP! DUH! And if you used your EQ password for any other password then change that NOW! 2) Maybe change the creditcard your account was being charged to and notify that card company of this hacking and the date the Sony system was hacked so you and your bank can monitor your charges.

We all take a chance of being hacked everytime we use a creditcard on the internet and we all know it. Playing EQ is no different. When you think about it, it should have happened years ago! And how many people have email accounts? Yeah! You know that can be hacked into easier than Sony's system so if that happens to you who are you going to blame? You email host? Come on now. Sony did nothing wrong except maybe not find the problem before the hackers exited their system. And I doubt if that is a possiblility less an employee was in the security system at that exact moment. /shrug.

The only databases with credit card information that was accessed was a non US outdated (2007) database (note: no security codes were available) and a database containing direct debit record for transactions in Austria, Germany, the Netherlands and Spain. So, barring those living in these countries, you have little to worry about. Sure maybe you want to change a few passwords here and there, but that's small time.

As it is, Sony shouldn't have an open twitter stream or Facebook status update barrage saying "The [insert security or government agency] told us [insert important information about the identity of the attackers]" or the like, but they do owe us, the consumers of a product that frankly is highly saturated, an explanation other than "we are working round the clock" when obviously they are not. They may be working around the "business clock" aka Nine to Five, Monday - Friday. Why else would they post that it would be down the rest of the weekend unless they had no intent to work on it during said weekend.

As far as bringing it back in stages, I agree that most probably the PSN will be back first, as more of Sony's manpower (or should I say nerdpower) is going towards fixing the security issues with the PSN. After that, however, it should be little time in restoring SOE. Of course, that is only and estimate. SOE may be easier to fix, and it is it's own company so it may be up first. Who knows. I don't even think Sony and SOE knows. When SOE comes on, the whole thing will come on, not individual games.
At any rate, we likely have more than just a few days to wait.

Where are your sources for Number #1 and #2? On top of that, I very doubt they're going to wait until the end of June.

If you are going to cite numbers and information like that, then you should source them. Don't expect me to spend time looking things up to verify your information. If you don't want to source them, that's totally fine. I will in turn completely ignore what you said.

That May 31st target date is for PSN so does this mean that maybe SOE will be up before then? From what Im trying to understand from all the info is that PSN & SOE are connected somehow with the security problem. If they share the same program then I guess 5/31 means SOE too. Either way I can wait if it means my private info will be safer in the end.

The thing that they both share is that they were both hacked. My theory is that they are developing a brand new security program and that is why they are taking so long. Might be they are keeping the servers down until the investigations are over. All of this is simple speculation though, as Sony has released so little info.

As a customer for almost 11 years that has PAID for all the expantions and the monthly fees I feel Sony could do a bit better during this crisis by posting a daily update like when you try to log in.
The credit card company I use has issued me a new card with a completely new number and expiration date.(just in case hehe)
The hackers dont have our ss numbers so I dont think identity theft is gonna be a problem.
On Zek where I mostly Play You see the hackers come and go lol but they are irritating.
My main concern is that I may have missing gear and such when they finally get the servers back up and how that is gonna get handled if it happens.
They will get the servers up as soon as they can I am sure-Sony does lose money every day they are down no doubt-as to the Hacking f--ks that did this-hope every one of them gets identified and does a little jail time to get their minds right hehe.
