Sony is tryingFollow

Most are upset that EQ is down and act like SOE is "putting" them off as to an ETA on when things will return to normal. I for one dont want EQ back up until SOE is very sure my personal information is secure. Its not like Sony is leaving us in the dark for kicks. They are loosing a ton of money every day they are down. Have you seen the Sony stock since this happened?
People are directing their anger totally at Sony. What about the people that did the hacking? It was individulas that did this to everyone not Sony as a company and these individuals may never be found thus it could happen again.

Also I dont see anyone mentioning the fact that Sony has said they will grant us One Free Month PLUS One Day for Every Day they are down! I personally think that is a very kind gesture on their part.(for Sony)
Im sure that wont be enough for some people but Sony did not have to give us even that.

My question is didnt Sony have a program that would send them a "red flag" or "alarm" of some sort that gave them some indication that hacking was being attempted in the first place?

My concern now is that the cost of fixing this problem will passed on to us, the customer and not out of the billions of dollars Sony made this past year. My pockets are deep and my arms short. I am not sure if I can reach any deeper to pay the increase that must surely be INC soon!

In the end, we have no choice but to wait it out. Now is a good time to catch up on some things in real life like spending more time with family & friends. Doing the yard work or read a book. Heck if you need an EQ fix then do some much needed research on that quest or how to get that item you wanted.
If you cant live without playing EQ for a couple of weeks Id hate to think what your real life is like.

Dont worry... soon enough we will all be back in Norrath fighting mobs until then be Smiley: smile

I guess I missed the part where we are getting 1 month free. Whopee. But Im with you on how could this happen. SOE is MMORPG so doesnt that mean they need to know about computer programs? Would make sense that they would have a security program that set off some kind of alarm when certian information was being accessed improperly and not two weeks later either. But then again Im not a computer geek. :/

I'll just sit and wait with the rest of you and hope EQ is back up soon.

77 million account's that intrusted SOE with information. Now in the hands of who knows. But thats ok,I got to save $15.00 for 1 month. Just glad someone didn't buy a car off my info..

Got nothing on that. But I agree.

I hear that I was off game for a few days. Decided to get on and play may/3rd and wouldn't let me. I checked the news then my email and was like "Kk guess I wont play EQ today lol" but did look up a few things I was putting off in game after being gone for 4 years.

A month free is a nice gesture... if it is added to the front of your subscription. It's an empty thing if its is added onto the end because how many player plan to quit more than a month in advance of quitting?

I haven't heard which way the month is going to be added --just saying.

"SOE wrote. "First, all impacted players will receive 30 days subscription credit plus one day for each day the service was unavailable. Also every impacted player will receive a Batman-Inspired mask appearance item.

If you paid a few months in advanced. Like lets say 3 months and they go you can now go 4 months play. or you have 3 days left and they go you can now play 1 month + 2 weeks +3 days. Dont think it makes a diferance how they give you the 30 days. Before or after the time line is their with an end date.

Early no coffee yet not sure if that makes 100% sence or not. If not I'll try and explain why it does not matter.

Lets just say. Yes they well give you your 30 days on your account before your RL money is used. How would you know ?

Sony could certianly do better on PR but they are just as anxious to get the servers up as we are.

They are loosing a ton of money due to this shutdown and image.

Anyone that has ever subbed to WoW would be familiar with the way Blizzard lists your subscriptions on your account page. Freebies are tacked on amidst recurrings. Now, I am a tad foggy having played WoW years ago and recently only having revisited it for 2 billings, but my recollection was that freebies were injected next in line rather than end-of-line.

In EQ terms the difference is simply this: if June 2011 is the "free month" it puts everyone's billing cycle one month further down the line than whatever it was currently going to expire. This saves the customer money now and cleary impacts SoE's take for the month. This is the most obvious + Public relations way to do this.

Contrast that to adding 30 days onto the ending of everyone's billing cycle --if it goes on before the next renewal it does the same thing just spreads the pain out for SoE over more months. Still good (for what this gesture is worth anyways) but not as obvious of a PR sacrifice.

IF they add the 30 days on to when you have cancelled your billing, it becomes an empty gesture. I know people that have quit 3 days into a 6 month billing cycle --an extra month added onto the end of that doesn't do much good.

Since info from SoE is limited at this point, we are left speculating and interpreting on a lot of things.

I wonder what will be asked of the customers.
Will we need to reenter our account info?
I doubt this will escape the PITA factor.
Want the game back.

Dumb question, but is that deal for active accounts only? Because if it includes inactive accounts, it would definitly be enough to lure me back to the game.

The day-to-day extension as far as I know, and logically, would only apply to currently active accounts. As to returning I think that is a 10 day free option though you *COULD* try to wheedle customer service into more with a phone call ... like: "I was thinking of returning, but, ..." to see what you could get ...

Well 1 month free plus 1 day for every day game is down I would assume only applies to active accounts. Why would Sony give 1+ month free to people that werent playing? But we all know what happens we we assume. Smiley: wink
IMO if Sony wanted to take this one step further they could give us DBL xp for that free month. Ok that might be a bit much, but a DBL xp week wouldnt be asking too much!

So... as of today we are at 35 days free service or it could be 36 if they concider 1 month being 31 days since & May does have 31 days in it which is the month when the servers went down. /shrug But yes Sony is taking a huge hit in the cash deptartment over all of this. Their stock is hurting. Im still wondering why their security system didnt shut down as soon as it detected somthing fishy instead of it taking 2 weeks for someone to see something wasnt right. I mean isnt that kinda like shooting the gun and the bullet coming out 5 mins later or closing the gate after the cows got loose? I sure hope they find the ones involved and put them in the stockades so we can all throw rocks at them tho! Smiley: nod

On another subject of servers being down... I sure hope my houses arent being charged for this downtime as well. That would be a total rip-off to pay on them without access to them. We shall see how that turns out soon enough I guess. Smiley: rolleyes

Im still waiting for Sony to give multi account discount packages!!! Smiley: tongue

But again... all we can do is wait. Soon enough we will be back in Norrath killing so
until then do what you can to be Smiley: smile

I could care less about getting a free month. They should be giving us free credit report per month for two years like every other major corporation does if your data is comprimised.

This way you can check daily if anything is out of the ordinary and put a stop to it right away. Personally, I think this is one of the worst cases of marketing/customer service I have ever seen.

Think about it. Several years down the road when applying for a loan you may get rejected because someone in Boliva used yur name and info to get credit and default on it.

It is a very common occurence and SOE should be accountable.

Thankfully, I only ever used pre-paid, store-bought credit cards for online gaming.

If there is a 10 free day option when it comes back up, I'm in for coming back.

A free month is total crap when you look at the big picture. playstation users will get 2 free playstation 3 games a month of playstation plus a week of hulu plus and free music from qrocity. so I REALLY HOPE SOE is planing on giving us more then jsut one month of service

The free games are from a very limited selection and I am willing to bet they are $9.99 greatest hits games. As for the rest of it, so what. It's free and it's a gesture to say thank you for being patient. If all you're going to do is whine about it, quit playing and don't take it.
