Jonwin started the allakhazam poster guild (previous life is the <Aude Sapere> tag on Povar) on the Vulak/Aerr Time-locked progression server. <Seekers of Stars> is the name. Focus is friendly grouping as/if wanted, intentions of bigger targest when numbers/interest warrant. There's many guilds recruting, so you can be quite specific in finding the niche that will satisfy you the most.
I'm playing there at the moment. It's a bit cramped in the level 35-50 range at the moment for hunting spots, but overall a healthy population. Fippy server is busier... so I am glad I am on Vulak.
Pro's of progression:
-Everyone just started in Feb. Sure there is level 50s, and guilds raiding Hate, Fear, Naggy and Vox permenantly, but as long as you play during a normal time (EST, PAC primetime and whatever is Western Europe primetime as Vulak has a big Euro guild) you will be hard-pressed to find an empty zone that has xp mobs in it (Neriak Third Gate and Paineel can be empty).
-The casual vs. Uber curve is compressed. Joining a regular server again was daunting to me because I didn't feel like getting 90 levels and tons of AA to feel I was average. I will concede that levelling on regular servers and the defiant gear (better than what most saw in Omens for you at level 30 basically to keep it in the OP's context)is there to support people wanting to make the effort.
-real people. Sure we have boxers, but we don't have mercs filling up part groups. People need each other to grind xp in Mistmoore...
-itemization is screwy at times, but at least there isn't 20 stats on a junk item. Spells and abilities are scaled back (in respects to the # you have) to tactics are more important for most classes (mage appears to be easy-mode... sorry mages if you are offended by that).
-The world is big, but not massive with more empty zones than not (especialy out of below 80 content).
-we can't truly predict what will happen to the two TLP servers. Will Sony let them progress at different rates? Will they let one or both of them stagnate at certain expansions (lots of talk of locking Vulak down at Velious for a loooong time). Will they have to merge them together (messy if they let progression differ). The previous progression servers were eventually merged into a regular server anyway...
Cons of progression:
-basically all of the above from the opposite point of view. Mercenaries can really help for example (even though I haven't used them myself).
-What if they do lock it a Velious and you don't want to be there... forever... and they don't let you transfer off?
-solo/duo levelling is slow
-lack of clarity on some things... like is this quest working or not? (You can't trust that you got all the drops so it is active... example Legacy of Ykesha quest stuff is dropping in Mistmoore).
-the power of the vote will be swayed heavily if Sony does any more mess ups (like newb armor in early... this got some very upset) that cause the slower casuals to abandon ship. Same for Luclin opening up... if it is too soon I know a lot of people saying they will quit. Remains to be seen if they do, but the point is there is almost an "I'm quitting when _______" culture on the progression servers. The people playing on regular servers are generally happy where they are for the long haul (if they have hung around this long).
Best Regular server to join is Povar, since that's where I will likely return to if Progression fizzles out.
