Well here I am lvl 22 chanter now and bro is a lvl 22 druid and guess what?
some our our spells are in zones that are not even on the new servers (Fippy for 1)

also some say that you need to research.
So what do we do then?

kind of useless to not have your next spells available untill next expansion comes out.

Just a thought and would appreciate some comments on this

What spells? If they're only available from zones not in game that means the spells were not available originally in the "old world" so the spells themselves are introduced with future expansions as they get added.

This is to be expected.

Spells from the next expansion won't be available until the next expansion. That's the whole set up of the server.

If there are spells that should be available but aren't, then you should /bug that in game.

The irony is that unavailable spells are generally unavailable ONLY for spells that are sold by vendors in zones not yet introduced in the progression.

My point is a number of post-original spells are indeed available simply because when they were introduced they were put into the inventory of some "old world" vendors. Spells like enchanter breeze and druid ensnaring roots come to mind, and I'm sure there are many more. Those playing in the classic days had no mana regen available till level 28 (clarity). Breeze was introduced with Kunark, the very early beginning of the "dumbing down" process for online MMORPGs. ;)

If an original spell is research only (i.e., level 24 necro pet) it is currently not available on the new progression servers. This is caused by research not quite working (I can make fine salt, but no spells or other component combines).

Note: this is a well known issue that will be fixed at some point. Possibly has been already (haven't checked in a few days) and can be dealt with in a couple of ways:

1. Don't worry about it.
2. Level past it and get the spell that replaces the one that is Missing In Action.
3. Allow it to displease you and negatively impact you joy of the game.*

*option 3 is not recommended... why bother?

Considering we get to keep the across the board damage+ to many spells that was added later in EQ history, even the specific example of a necro having to use a gimper pet than "expected" for 5 levels isn't bad... it's almost more in line with original damage if you look at the overall balance?

You saying when life hands you lemons..., make lemonade!

That's always useful advice but I sure do share their frustration over a key class spell being unavailable simply because Sony can't get the research trade to work right. Some spells are crucially important to a class's advancement. I would having the highest level necro pet is one of those.

I share the frustration as well, but it's not game-breaking --at least no specific example that has been cited. Necro pets is the best I can come up with (for being a serious problem), and hopefully it is addressed sooner rather than later. Ulitmately it is playstyle limiting (pet can't tank as well being lower con) and reduces dps when kiting but it doesn't tip me to stop playing my necro (yet at least).

Unfortunately (and part of why this happened in the first place) is the Dev insistence on not progressing tradeskills down. There really isn't a market for the lowbie research spells on old servers, nor is doing research on a brand-new main character efficient. So on an old server make friends with a researcher is what most people tell you to do...

If a spell "has to be" researched and non-vendor available under level 50 (or even 75?)then it would be nice to offer a non-tradeskill route to the spells. Similar to the Kunark spell turn in quests. Frankly, I think all spells should be (eventually) vendor available somewhere, just make the vendor cost a gold-sink in proportion to tradeskilling. Or put them all on LDON merchants... or some even smarter idea... I do recognize that keeping failures in the tradeskilling system makes determining absolute trade-item costs tricky.

I can see newer content having drop-only and research-only spells. I am unconvinced there is any benefit for any spell under level 80 to not have multiple routes of acquistion.

EQ tradeskills don't appeal to all. When it doesn't work (ala progression research) then the problem is clearly amplified.

As to the old argument "but tradeskills are vital and special"... well then put in duplicates of spells but add vanity features. Example: make the research-only version of the necro pets be bizarre critters... or zombie gnomes or something that makes it stand out from my vendor-bought plain version.

The simplest solution to this problem would be to add these spells (at a higher cost) to the classic vendors.

It's not going to effect the non-TLP servers as a global change (as they are EZ-mode anyway), but it will fix unobtainable sh*t.

PS- Verant sucks!

PPS- Even if this was the O-boards, no-one cares.

PPPS- Raster is Kunark, you are wasting more time than you would if he actually spawned there ....
