First, some of the more recent (which means last few years) similar topics:

About 3 boxing

2 boxing with mercs

So then the question becomes "best trio for what?" and "Are you using mercs?" (which you said yes)

Another factor is what kind of boxer are you?

I've seen people that use the "drag the extras behind my main while main does most of the work... add in dps when safe" method.

You could be running all casters and kiting.

You could be doing traditonal PC tank, slower, healer... and so on.

Finally, what do you want to do with this trio?

You could 3-box 3 clerics without mercs and eventually get to max level. Not sure that it would be fun though.

I am partial to SK, SHM, Enchanter. You have your tank (SK), slowers (SHM and Enc), best buffs in the game, puller (SK), backup healer (SHM) and crowd control (Enc). I run this combo with one healer merc and 2 melee DPS when content is easy and two healers and one DPS when the content is hard.

The problem with this setup is you have to invest in the SK's gear and AA's. This isn't a problem if you really like to play the SK as your main but if not and you don't put in the time to get the gear, AC augs, and AA then they will not tank well. If you want to skip having to worry about tank gear and a couple thousand AA's to then I would also support using a Mage pet to tank and use a Mage, SHM, and Enchanter using healer and caster DPS mercs (since melee mercs will get hit while using mage pet to tank).

You could replace the Enchanter with a Bard and get song DPS but I can macro my enchanter to DD or DoT a lot easier then I can auto attack with my bard and I already had an enchanter when I started.

I actually box Monk / Shammy and Sk / Chanter. Both with 2 Healer Mercs.
My advise would be a War with Chanter and a Wiz or
Monk (for easier pulls), Shammy and Wiz. In this case you should try 1 Tank Merc, 1 Rogue Merc and 1 Healer Merc.
If you set up with a Chanter instead of Shammy you should have 2 Healer Mercs and 1 Tank Merc.
All this is easy to box. I would never take a SK again because the WAR has nice def skills. Only good thing on
the SK is FD / snare, so its all a bit easier. But on named stuff you wont be able to snare any way :-)

Good Luck

I don't argue that warriors have better mitigation and defensive's but you might be selling the SK's utility short a bit by only mentioning FD and snare.

SK's have Hate's Attraction (flings the mob towards you) and Death Effigy (fade) allows perfect pulling every time. SK's can pull with this combo as good and sometimes better then a monk. Yes, you have to wait 1.5-2 minutes between pulls but it allows you to box easier by staying on the same screen during pull and initial aggro.

2.0 Epic click + Second Spire + Visage of Death +2 hander allows you to kill named with one healer, solo (no merc) most other T4 mobs, and increase burst DPS to very high levels.

Don't forget SK's can swarm for AA's. Last double XP weekend I raked in nearly 300AA in <9 hours play time swarming in Thal and Mech guardian. Warriors can't touch that.

SK's have easy to box aggro abilities.

Reverent, you could be right. I am out of arguments. :-)
Would be nice to see the arguments of a War, Shammy, Wiz combo.

I'll second what Reverent said.
I primarily, 3 box an SK, Shammy and Necro(main).
Although I have a warrior geared and AA'd similarly to the SK. The SK nowadays has excellent pulling capabilities and far better utility especially for a boxer. Also, being puller and main tank for the group is very convenient while boxing.(I use 3 separate computers, but for someone switching windows between characters it may even be more efficient than a separate puller and main tank). Finally, the SK instant aggro control is another plus on the warrior until the warrior gets many AAs and disciplines invested.

Please note : If you ever plan to raid, the warrior is King of tanks in the realm of the raiders.

Im doing this perfect trio all character lvl 63, enchanter , bard and shaman using 2 tank merc and 1 healer so》enchanter are my main puller i tash mob slow mezz add sometime i charm stuff for faster kill and my cleric merc keep me alive. The bard are on autofollow doing a 5 song on melody and i use him for extra dps on hard foes , shaman are on auto follow and need him for the best buff in game combined with chanter haste and the bard running 2 stackable haste song it make the tanks and pets a deadly machine .

Is there any sites that talk about different ways to use macros? You know, "Macro's for Dummies in EQ" lol

Also, what's the trick for autofollow, the character that is set to autofollow will do fine then all of a sudden start going in circles, and if I don't catch it in time, arrgh :) I have turned down FPS, clip plane, anything that is video intensive and it don't seem to help...

Like Narrew, I've had a similar issue with my boxed toon on autofollow all of sudden running in circles and aggro'ing everything in range. And I do have a serious gaming rig.

Typically I have this issue indoors. I've noticed it when I enter a room and cut over left/right to a corner or alcove or nook etc.

I don't really have a good answer for you Narrew, but I have found, with the indoors, when possible, going in a little deeper than the doorway and checking on the progress of my boxed toon that it's in the room and mostly directly behind me before I take a left/right to a nook or corner. It helps, but isn't perfect.

Pretty much, I got to the point where I'd turn off autofollow when facing sketchy/iffy rooms. Sorry that's not much help. :-(

Same....there are only certain area's that this seems to happen...I recently noticed this when I entered Dulak's Harbor...if I am on auto-follow and I get close to the building with the entry to Torigan mines, the whole circle thing happens, and this on my new gaming rig.

I just check a little more often, especially in zones I don't know, to keep from going in circles and gaining aggro

While I suppose this isn't helpful in all cases, I know a guy who three boxes and made one of his toons a mage specifically so he could just send the mage to wherever and then coth the rest of the group to him.

Sure, makes sense. I have a mage in my group for this as well as a druid and wizard because the latter 2 can port as well as teleport to bind. Throw in fellowships and campfires, secondary bind and the new tertiary bind and I hardly ever have to run a toon anywhere. Smiley: laugh

The reason of my perfect trio is because u dont have to alt tab often since bard are barelly never attacked and i switch to shaman only to buff the merc and they are doing a very good job the 2 tank help a lot during add and the cleric are so good i dont even need to slow and they never run out mana due to the very high mana regen im actually xp in steppe and i just rush into all those puma and even if i get 3 add i never died so far it just take a lot of time to kill , about the circle bug : lower the clip plane to minimum on the followers and let this to max with the main that helped a lot for me and i dont have this bug anymore

The autofollow problem is just a technical fault due to the lag between computers. It's a nightmare on circular staircases like in Anguish. I swear such design is sadistically intended to drive multi-boxers crazy. The clipping plane suggestion is interesting, I will have to try it in the rare occasions when I'm not moving toons with CoHero, campfire or TL to bind.

I 2 box on the same PC and the toon on follow sometimes while outdoors does run around in circles. Most time inside i dont auto follow often like you said staircases and the like are a pain in the ***** I would normally just run one then the other.

I havent done an LDON in forever, I miss those. Do you still go to the specific camp for each one or do they have a central location for all of them now?

Yup, still going to the specific camps. Can still port around via the Magus at camps and one-way trip from Guild Lobby Magus. I've had great fun using a lower level boxed toon and its merc.

It has been a while, so it may have changed, but back in the day a full group gave a xp bonus. I'd surmise mercs probably count toward that bonus if such a bonus still exists. So, to answer your question with a caveat that I could be wrong about the mercs, 6 regardless of merc/PC should garner more xp due to the bonus.

Ya seem to remeber a full group xp bonus to encourage grouping and what not. I do believe mercs take some xp just like a pet would for a pet class toon. So 3 box +3 mercs might get ya bonus xp.
