#1 Nov 18 2010 at 8:05 PM Rating: Good
I was just wondering if anyone has heard of a new progression server coming up anytime soon?

There is a lot of talk on the official forums about a new time lock progression server including some link where one of the EQ devs or producers was talking about releasing one after the dust settles from the expansion release. I believe the general belief if sometime in Q1 of 2011. Myself, I am hoping for January as a recently came back after a 3 year absence and after talking to a lot of my old guild members if a progression server does get released they will all be coming back as well.

Sweet ty for the info. Do you have a link for when they do decide to have a new one? I will be checking it daily. Thx again

Thanks for that info, JBMcc. I might have to return for this. I've always loved the idea of progression play, but could never find a guild that stayed together.

I will have to go find the link to the original thread and post it here. I just found it by happenstance myself, but the thought of a progression server does have me stoked. I have played off and on since Kunark, and raided every time I came back, but there was a lot of the game I missed. My most recent absence was a 2+ year break and the last time I quit I hadn't quite reached the then 75 level cap, so I havent seen anything beyond that either.

As soon as I came back and discovered my guild still existed I posted on facebook and a few of my former officers/co-leaders are coming back as well. When we found out about the progression server we all agreed instantly that the day it opens we form the guild over on that server and bring in as many as we can. It has us all excited, so much so that we have already started determining what races and classes we will be and we started new level 1 toons together now so we can get back in the swing of grouping and leveling together because we figure that will be key on the new server. If any of you want to join us you are free to do so. We are currently playing on the AB server, just send a message to killit, grudus, or musikalii.

Edit~

That is the post that I saw where Phathom referenced that they are still planning to open a progression server after the HoT release. Well, the release has happened so now we are just waiting on more info ;) I still have my hopes up for this one.

I think it won't be until next year. After the expansion came the normal bug squashing and then the vacation time for the Devs who worked all that extra time to get the expansion out the door. That will take us into the holidays (hopefully they'll have time for a few new holiday quests. Maybe one to get a bigger stocking bag or something.)

I hope they will be able to spend some time delaying things that will cause unbalance, such as defiant, loyalty stuff, etc. I hope they hold that for a later time in the progression timeline. If they do, then that will take some time to sort out as well.

I am with you all the way. I am perfectly willing to wait an extra month or so if it means it is done right. I don't expect them to revert back to the old original code or anything, but something like leaving defiant in would completely destroy the intentions of the server.

On the upside my old guild is back up to 4 returned and now active subs again and we all made lowbies and are having a blast. Even the news of a Progression server makes SOE money lol.

And now for those who want to follow along the progress...

^ This was a new post that the head code man himself responded to today saying the server is still being worked on (as well as Zek and FV) which may not give us a timeline, but in a way confirms that it is going to happen and isn't just a rumor. We still don't know specific rulesets or anything like that, but when it does become reality, my guild will be ready day 1 when it goes live and will hopefully pick up new members before and after that time.

Instead of unlocking the next expansion as soon as the highest content is beaten, the expansions are unlocked on a schedule.

If they came out with a time-locked progression server where they actually did it correctly (no defiant, hot zone drops, no tradeskilling for spells from future expansions, etc) then I could be interested in it. But each previous "progression" server has been a disappointment in that regard.

Personally, I'll just keep playing on Project '99. Sony will never come close to recreating the game the way those guys have.

For example, every 3 or 4 months another expansion opens. That prevents one guild on the server smashing thru the raid mobs and opening everything very quickly.

SKlug (I think that's who it was, anyway . . . ) said on the EQ forums that they are actively working on it now.

I was told (didn't actually listen myelf) that they re-affirmed they are currently working on the server in the last podcast. They supposedly said the target is still early 2011, but that could be anywhere between January (my hope) and March. Either way that gives me plenty of time to knock off all the rust and continue my campaign of propoganda against the other games my old guild mates currently play while trying to convince them to come back.
