Just came back...Follow

I have actually had the itch to pickup EQ again for a few months now. The last time I played Anguish was end game and I had my shaman's 1.5 and was working on getting my pie slices for him and getting the 1.5 for my warrior. I spent a lot of time in WoW during my time away and led a raid guild there but I often found myself telling my members and officers "Unless you have done PoTime when it was endgame, and later on Qvic and some of those zones with a full raid... you don't even know what it means to raid!"

Anyway... now that I am back (as of yesterday) I find that I am clueless. The first thing I did was a gear check from all my toons and discovered a lot of my old toys (Like my BoC and other twink gear) was looted by my old guild when I gave them free reign on my account when I quit. All of my toons are still in the gear they were wearing... but I don't even know if what they have on is decent for their level now or if it is all antiqued junk! Which brings me to my question for you the masses...

Should I just roll a new toon from scratch and "re-learn" the game using what twink gear I have left or should I jump back on my old toons and try to remember as I go? Also... I am having the dilemma do I find a new server and start from scratch there, or do I stick with my old server? I used to play on AB which is a Euro server, because it fit my old work schedule. It no longer does. The problem is I hate to leave it because I have my old guild there. Even though all the guildmembers have since left the game for others, as the creator (and still Leader) I have full access to the g-bank and the 85k tribute that was left there. I just hate to let it go to waste!

Welcome Back,
A lot has changed since you left. Coincidentally, I play on AB server. Still has a good population. Though all standard rule servers have decent populations except maybe Trakanon as it is a new server and will be lower level/aas on most characters.

As far as gear is concerned, you would be better off getting "Defiant gear". This gear was introduced before SOD expansion in order to get most people(group game) into current content at the time. It drops globally off relevant lvl mobs. For example, "Elaborate Defiant" gear is for lvl 59-70 and drops off mobs in the 60s-70 range. "Elegant Defiant" gear is for lvl 70-80 and drops off Mobs over lvl 70 etc. The Defiant series of gear is also available for lower levels characters off appropriate lvl mobs. This gear can also be purchased cheap in the Bazaar and will be better than any old school raid gear. You can also claim a few pieces of the gear(cant remember the name in claims window).

All accounts are entitled to create one guild per account. Just press alt + G in game and your guild activation window will open. Nowadays it is possible to create a guild with just one character. This helped a lot of peoples Bazaar traders/alts to greatly increase bank space. Though if you have your guild intact with tribute available that would be great.

During the last year and a half or so ,I have noticed a significant amount of returning players to the game. So much so, that there are very active guilds on every regular server that are heavy on returning players. These guilds are also very good if you want to group from the lower levels(where Eq can seem pretty empty sometimes) up to max lvl.

Mercenaries (Healer/cleric ,Tank or DPS have made it possible to solo(dubbed molo ) all the way to max lvl ,where the bulk of EQ's population is more densely concentrated.

Hotzones (zones with temporarily increased xp modifiers)were created to encourage more pick up groups(PUGS).This is the most possible place to go and send a /ooc request to join a group nowadays. Other than the hotzones you would find that most grouping in EQ is now via guild and/or in game cliques. The LFG tool is rarely effective.

Hope this helps and good luck.

It actually does help a lot. I am still hoping to convince my wife to come back as well so maybe I won't need the mercs to level. She is still a wow addict though and is debating jumping back into wow because it is "easier" and she doesn't "have to wait for hours on end for a group". I think with the merc system it will eliminate her latter complaint though if we do go that route. She can't remember her old account name, or which old card she used to pay for it, or even which e-mail she had the account registered to lol. She will more than likely be starting from scratch if she does play again with me. She told me she wants to roll another cleric if that is the case, which means I can go tank and grab a dps merc and run with it.

Thanks for the tips on the defiant gear. As soon as I level up a bit on a new toon and get my bearing again and knock off some of the rust, I will start trying to grab those gear sets for my warrior and shaman. I had a blast just going through my bank last night looking at old fableds and drops that my characters had outgrown but I kept because of the stories behind them. I think my return is long overdue.
