Gone 5 years - It's overwhelming nowFollow

Hi folks,

Man, I tell you. Coming back to EQ is like going back to your hometown and discovering that it grew by a factor of 10 and you don't recognize anything. I see people with 50,000 hps. People let gear rot that's better than the top notch stuff I'm wearing. I'm even having to remember where I last played. I really don't remember where anything is. It seems like Plane of Sky was maybe one of the last places I remember playing. I think I quit shortly after the Planes expansion came out. I did manage to get my first epics on each character before I became responsible and quit.

Now, it's so overwhelming I'm wondering if it's worth the effort to relearn everything again. I have a couple of accounts, and my 2 primary characters are a level 61 Monk and 56 druid. I can't really put the time in like I used to be able to, but am more interested in just logging those 2 on and going to kill stuff by myself, and try to level up abit.

Can anyone recommend some zones where a couple of undergeared, mid-level toons can still have fun in this game at those levels, with just the 2 of them grouped?

Heck, I am even having trouble navigating with maps, lol.

Note to Self: Cliff Golems can summon.

Tymz End - 61 Monk
Dubbul Dekker - 56 Drood

Hotzones, Mercs, bonus for those with lower AA, and the new defiant gear should help you to catch up fast.

I'd suggest reading the threads both here and on Station regarding returning players. It's easier now than ever before to level.

Have fun and welcome back!

Hot zones are always good but if you just want to quietly solo and still feel like you have your bearings, consider the upper level Kunark/Velious zones such as Sebilis and Velketor's Labyrinth. Old expansion mobs tend to have fewer hit points and do less damage than later expansion mobs which get balanced against mudflation. They're still good xp, just a little easier going while you relearn what you're doing.

Provided you have at least the Seeds of Discord (SoD) expansion grab yourself a tank merc on the druid and a cleric merc on the monk.

You don't really need to run the cleric merc at the lower levels, but it's handy to have on the monk for rezzing since you can just FD, wait.. pop it and get back up and running.

I would recommend trying out The Hole and/or Crypt of Decay (CoD in PoP). You could also begin in Sebilis or Chardok if your druid still needs spells. Then move to the PoP zones for spell purposes.

There's also the hot zones Bloodfields (55) and Barren Coast (60). I personally think your killing and xp rate will be higher in the older zones though.

Definitely hit the bazaar and buy any cheap upgrades you see. Don't worry about upgrades too much, but focus on what is cheap.. 100-500 plat type stuff. You'll be upgrading the Defiant quickly, so don't worry to much about it.

You can also blow your /claim reward that gives you a couple pieces of gear, some potions and things. I'd recommend waiting until 65 to claim this though, as then it will give you the higher version of the DEfiant gear.

Bottom line - set some reasonable goals and have fun.

If your gear is outdated you could go to "Blackfeather Roost( TSS expansion zone : 52-59 Mobs) then head over to Sunderrock Springs(TSS lvl 63-70 mobs) till 72-73(mobs do not hit too hard in this zone). You will get "Elaborate Defiant Gear"(for lvls 59-70) dropping in Sunderrock, this gear was introduced to get newer players into SOF/SOD content and is better than a lot of old school raid gear .It drops globally. The current hotzone "Barren Coast"(mob lvl 58-63 ish) is also an option presently.Once at 75 you will find the options for xp to open up i.e. The SOF zones Dragonscale Hills (70-75 Mobs), Loping Plains (mob range 75-79) then Hills of Shade(mobs 78-83) or Gyrospire instances(mobs 79-84) to get to lvl.85. You can d/load maps for all expansions from : Mapfiend.com and extract to your EQ maps folder....as said above get the mercs which are available in POK - use find .Good luck and welcome back.
