Class SuggestionsFollow

#1 May 18 2010 at 7:47 PM Rating: Decent
I'm coming back to the game, and I need some suggestions for classes. I want to level and experience some group content, but I don't plan on raiding. I have SoD so I'll solo with a merc and group any time I can. I'll be starting fresh so I won't have any pp. I've been thinking between a Druid, Paladin, Ranger, and Monk. I like group desirability. Can anyone throw out some suggestions? I don't want to play a pure caster. With the Ranger, I worry about group desirability. I'm really interested in the class as they seem really fun, but I want to be invited to groups. Thanks in advance.

Wow, thank you so much for the excellent reply. The summaries of each class is exactly what I need to know. I'm leaning towards either Ranger or Monk, but with the Ranger I'm worried about gear. Thanks again.

Dont worry too much about gear. The chain versions of defiant are available in bazaar. Old style armor quest s abound and there are tasks in each hot zone that will add a cloak, belt, or shoulder item.
Bows are in great abundance. Very cheap to get on povar.

If you are serious about not raiding and play eastern time zone. Come to povar and look me or any member of Aude Sapere up. Currently about 3 of us active so you have your group I play eastern, Always lost is in Mountain time. Only drawback is my working weekends so I am not on during the day.
Other servers can accomdate you as well.

I am on povar most evenings. My trader jpmorgan up when Im not in game.
Courtin
Adeste
Jonwinnie

the other toons I play most often.

Aha so you're the jpmorgan I'm standing next to!

Glad to hear Aude Sapere are still in the game.

To the OP:
Personally I'd say Ranger gear is easier to get hold of than Monk gear. And with monks you have the added excitement of needing weight reducing bags which can be very expensive.

I have no idea however about the relative desirability of the two classes in groups since I normally group with my self and all my characters are undesirable - especially the smelly rangers. But we have no monks so no grounds for comparison. I've played with some very good monks in the past and it kind of puts me off trying Smiley: smile

Since money doesn't weigh anything these days, and the defiant gear has so many great stats...like strength for the monk. (one strength = one stone of weight a monk can carry)

Weight is almost not a limitation for a monk anymore.

Monks take a substantial avoidance hit if they have over a certain weight that depends on their level but starts at I think 14. This is still the case. One strength does NOT equate to one stone of extra weight for a monk.

Groog,I raised a monk recently (over the last year or so) from 1 to mid 60's,I kept waiting for the weight penalties to start showing up...it only happened to me when I outgrew my defiant gear.

It seems that as long I kept my defiant gear updated,(keeping my stats up)all was good.

My strength does equal the weight I can carry, with no penalties at this time.

Monks solo passably well with a merc levelling up, but really don't come into their own soloing until they get some AAs under their belt, from what I understand. .

AA's: My main is a monk and I must stress this part as it is so true. The difference between a 61 monk 0 AA and a 61 monk 100AA is just sick. With my play style I chose to dump (after run speed and a few other important basics) everything into damage AA's. The difference in my DPS output was dramatic, to say the least.

Weight: While being overweight does affect you statisticaly, I am comfortable in saying that unless you are grossly overweight you'll never notice.

While being overweight does affect your AC as a monk, I find that making sure your feign death is maxed and reliable makes up for a lack of AC due to being over your weight/AC break point. WR bags are expensive, as noted, but by the time you really feel you need one, you'll either be able to comfortably afford it or (better) your guild can hook you up much more cheaply (or free).

Oh, and my main never used a Merc until 2 months ago. I only need one when facing red cons in a duo/trio group situation.

Oh yeah; my Monk is Juthak on Stromm. Feel free to PST to Juthak or Haemfast, my 57 Pally. I will totaly help you out.

EDIT: spelering
