Welcome to the EQ world.
Another site that you might want to use, especially as you grow and knowledge expands into game is:
http://www.eqinterface.com/
this site has some nice applications to enhance your view on screen. And of coarse here on Allakhazam. Premium membership search helps a lot trying to isolate a focus or special stat item.

In your eq directory you will find a folder called UIfiles

Unzip the downloaded files into a new subdirectory within Uifiles

Ingame go to Options, then select Load UI Skin.

In there will be listed Default, plus the new one you have created. Select that one then load it.

You may want to make sure that "keep you current loayout" is selected. This will keep and addition windows you have created (eg extra chat windows) and more or less keep the position of your current layout which may or may not save you some time getting your new UI to look the way you want it to.

The fun thing about custom UIs is nearly every patch you're going to have to update your custom UI, which can be a pain if the UI isnt updated at the same time.

I started just using the default for simplicity. You can make enough hotkey bars and chat windows to make the game playable on any level, but it does take up a lot of real estate.
