I just fear the guy that's damn good at what he does. Each class shines in one way or another so you really can't say just ONE class is the best. It's the knowledge behind the class you need to fear.

I've only dueled two or three times since I began EQ; the first time was when I was a 55 ranger, against a then top 'o the line 65 SK. He won and took me down to the agreed-upon 5% first, but at the time I had him at around 10 to 12% too. We called it, as it was just a friendly fight, but he parted saying - Please don't duel me again if and when You hit 65. Another time, when my mage was about 81 or 82, I dueled a 79 BST. Our pets had a high time kicking each other's butts, but after about 20 minutes of "futility" we simply called it off, the mage was slightly ahead of the BST but not by much.
I agree with most folks here, it is just an exercise in futility, but used to be fun 8 or 9 years ago, just to see how you would stack up against another class. Haven't dueled, and do not plan to, now or in the future, but it was fun, if done "in fun," back in the day.

When I used to play my enchanter, I never lost a duel. But haven't played him in a while. Strategy and knowing how to use your class was the key. Now, as a rogue, I haven't dueled much, and haven't lost a duel there either. I rarely duel. Probably total out of all my classes have dueled 30 times. My other classes have some losses in duels (warrior, cleric, necro).

At this point it, it would be interesting to see what my rogue could do, since he can do an initial 5 immediate initial backstabs, that have done as much as 41k damage - and apply a poison for another 10k.

The classes that I can struggle with are Shamans and Rangers, if they know how to play their class well. I can still fear the enchanter, only because I knew what I could do as an enchanter. I don't believe I have dueled another chanter yet. I would think that a Bard wouldn't be that far behind an enchanter in tricks and strategy. I would have to snare them at the beginning, otherwise they would give me headaches.

I fear nothing in PVP because this game's PVP has nothing to do with anything. It is 100% meaningless and therefore doesn't warrant a single thought...

You're playing EQ, a game, how productive could you be?!
#33 Jan 26 2010 at 3:09 PM Rating: Default
Only 2 classes can be tricky imho , zerkers and druids . being that i am a monk a solid zerker can pop a disc and if not paying attention can tear thru ya . druids are able to heal up and also dps.by keeping up the aa DS makes them hard to kill . bards last a while just because its tough to keep up , but if you have the aa ability grapple and can land a stun you win hands down .

Ey, what a foolish poll topic, Eh? As you can see from the responses, nobody cares about duels in Everquest anymore. Shouldve made it:

"Which class DID you fear the most in a Duel or PvP, in 2003, before you started playing World Of Warcraft, and Blizzard stole ALOT of subscriptions (AND money) from Sony?"
#35 Feb 11 2010 at 3:19 AM Rating: Decent
In all honesty, I can't believe anybody that regularly visits this site really cares about EQ at all anymore.

Back in the day, before they nerfed the PC charm, I never lost a duel as an Enchanter. Even now, against the pure caster classes, an Enchanter can pretty much come out on top anytime, if s/he knows what they're doing. But Enchanters are pretty much useless against melees (especially Warriors) and Healers (used to be only the SHM/DRU that I feared, but since the introduction of the Vow of Valor line, CLRs are my worst nightmare, especially with one of those +500% proc-rate spam-heal hammers of theirs).

When WoW came out, EQ lost soooo many subscribers to it. Thanks to Sony's idiocy, by trying to make EQ as much like WoW as possible, Sony made sure they stayed away. I guess SOE just can't figure out that it's not 1999 anymore. "Word of mouth" advertising works great (and it's free!) when a game's new...but when it's been around for 10 years, you gotta ADVERTISE, damn it, because the only people talking about it anymore are the people ALREADY PLAYING IT.

Frustration over the increasing obsolescence of my favorite Class (the Enchanter), along with SOEs apparent inability to put anyone with a CLUE in charge of putting the proper Foci on Enchanter gear (group- OR raid-level) eventually made me switch my main to my Shaman...but I still pine for my Enchanter.

(For SOE: HELLO...the last Magic-based nuke/DoT we got was our Lvl 70 Ancient nuke, and we do NOT wanna give up our Chromatic line for more; so WhoTF had the bright idea of putting a Magic-based DD/DoT damage Focus on our RAIDING gear from TSS on? And what Lvl 75+ raid Enchanter doesn't have their Quick Buff AA maxxed, making the Buff Haste Foci on our raid gear totally useless? God, this Focus issue has been chewing my rear for years, and it still makes me see red, even though I'm not currently playing. Sign of EQ-induced psychosis, I s'pose.)

Sadly, I still care about EQ...otherwise I wouldn't waste breath ******** about its inadequacies (whether real or perceived). Haven't been able to play in the past 1.5 years, so almost all of my boxed toons, once at least decently geared, are now pretty much obsolete. But if I could fix my game box(es), afford the dang expansion upgrades on all my toons, and the monthly cost to play...I'd go back to it in a heartbeat. I was there at the beginning, and I'd like to be there until the end (which I pray never comes). For me, at least, EQ will always and forever be the first and best of the MMORPGs.

If Sony could pull their brains together, bring in some fresh players to reinvigorate the game (so we don't HAVE to box our own groups in order to do anything significant; outside of Guild groups, of course)...I think I'd FIND a way to get back into it, regardless of the cost.

(I still dream in EQ, for heaven's sake...)

I would have to say i fear wizards the most. I realize in pvp max damage is limited, but i know that my wiz maxes that every cast. It would only take him 3 spells, or about 30 seconds to kill someone. With a good strong root and snare to start it off, using shadow step to avoid combat, can easily just blow someone to bind.

ive always played a warrior. ive never been very good. i started on tallon zek, then, after a few years off, came to mealin. i see that bard is listed fairly high as a "dont want to pvp against" class, but when i fought one on zek about equal, we wound up in a draw. fought higher geared and lvld one than i on maelin and got it to like 6%. i think of all the pvp ive been in, prolly 20-30 fights, i only won one, against a monk. so, i would just imagine, if my skills are so terrible, maybe bard isnt really that much to fear.

Posted by russelm ""Shadowknight suck they can't even use there HT on you. Fear the rogue more they have poisons and the highest DPS in the game. They don't need spells and can even back stab in any direction. The fool that thinks they can take a rogue in a duel is the fool.

wrong. The few i would fear are...Necro, Sk, and Ranger.

Necro + 4 dots + spire + shadowstep/whisperwind = dead melee.
Sk + dots + 2hs + shadowstep + HT = dead player
Ranger + bow *with stun proc* + shadowstep = dead player

I duel with my sk and my necro all the time. The only classes i have yet to beat are Clerics, and Shammies purely because of their healing abilities with aa's, wards, canni's and junk.

Rogues are easy, soon as sneak/hide wears off and u get a target on them they are done for.
