I've always been impressed with SoE naming some of the Kunark armor after players people of significance(Tolan, Mrylokar, Donal...). The recent post about the status of EQ Atlas has me thinking there is many other names SoE should rightly honor. In no particular order:

Allakhazam -if you are reading this then it explains itself.

Illia -mastermind of the beastiary

Muse -EQ Atlas, Cartographer of legend

Fansy -proved "no rules" PVP wasn't as advertised, demonstrated massive understanding of strange game mechanics while pretending to be foolish. His exploits are legendary, ridiculous and still worthy of reflection years later.

Niami Denmother -EQtraders. I seem to recall a cookie or something in her honor... well that's not enough!

Skrax Swifttail the one I couldn't remember properly as I typed this (thanks Jophiel)... the Iksar monk that proved faction was merely a matter of persistence and shared his guide with all that cared. An amazing accomplishment during Kunark --when he did it.

Gster -warrior from <Cestus Dei> of heroic stature. [Grovers nominated]

The Quon -cleric of humor [Samatman nominated]

Copeland -creator of the now-defunct Copeland's Weapon analyzer [Samatman nominated]

Mystere -banned writer of fan-fiction [Samatman nominated]

Flippety -maker of EQ videos and animations. [JoltinJoe nominated]

Apostate -aka Calimyr, guild leader of <Cestus Dei>. [Groogle nominated]

Kinvaras -Ranger of <Township Rebellion> [Whitman nominated]

Anezka -another Iksar that impressed with faction dedication. [Grove nominated]

Monual -monk and recorder of exploits [Grove nominated]

Sinzan Zizi -gnome cleric of Guild Mirage film fame [Grove nominated]

Kerasota -rogue of <Afterlife> and inventor of Lucy [Felicite nominated]

Who would you nominate to an in-game Hall of Fame?

The first time I played EQ was in early 2003. A friend I worked with told me about it and I was hooked so he invited me over to try it out. I started a mage and ran around not really knowing what to do but he helped me out. I ran into a few toons and they were in a guild called Cestus Dei. He told me that was the top guild in all of Everquest. (Now they may not have been but I'm just going by what he told me.) So when after I got home I looked online for them and found a eq ranking site by HP's and what not. One of their warriors were at the top his name is Gster From what I gather he was the first to gain his Epic 2.0, for any class and was always at the top of the leader boards. He inspired me to start a warrior, even though I never played on his server or ever met him in game, I wanted to top him on the leader boards.

He may have never done anything like the ones you mentioned but he inspired me to play for several years. Then I realized what it took to accomplish all those goals and then just started having fun with in game friends. I'm sure he contributed to Alla's and other sites as did many members of Cestus Dei from what I've seen.

You've already hit some of the big names so I'll toss out a few more -

The Quon, a cleric on Erollisi Marr who created a very funny website in parody of clerics and their role. The Quon had a good run, and in the end he actually pulled the plug on himself rather than wait until he had faded from sight.

Copeland, the creator of Copeland's Weapon Analyzer (which was already offline 5 years ago - so this one is quite old). Everyone used Copeland's Analyzer back then because the number of variables in determining whether a specific weapon combination was better than another were annoying and complex (class, level, proc rates, etc). If you were a melee DPS, it made things much simpler.

On the flip side, I'll pull Mystere's name out of the hat. Famous or infamous, depending on your perspective, Mystere wrote fan fiction that was clearly not ESRB-Teen rated and was banned from EQ. It's an interesting chain of events because Mystere was banned for something he wrote on a fan site, not anything he did in game or on any official EQ site. He even got himself a wikipedia page if you look him up.

Flippety - his is one of the more hilarious collections of EQ videos and animations.

I'm an old fogey at this point so my memory is fuzzy, but aren't all three of those devs?

I'm pretty sure Mrylokar is Lawrence Poe. Going from memory, he did the Velious spell system. I think Tolan also did Velious era spell design, but I can't remember his name... I'm not sure who Donal is. Most of the other kunark and velious era items that had weird names were devs. Abashi, Absor, hobart, feeliux, valtron, I'm sure some others.

If I had to guess, I'd say that Niami won't get more recognition than she currently has ingame. She's married IRL to Ngreth, who has been a dev for a few years now, and I think he's one of the leads now. He's always seemed to be the type of person who would want to avoid even an appearance of conflict and interest. Not that Niami doesn't deserve it, she is awesome and does.

If I had to vote, I'd vote for Apostate. Guildleader of Cestus Dei for a long time, one of the best clerics I've ever met, by FAR the most honest leader of a highend guild I've ever met, and just a generally awesome dude. It's funny that two CD members came up in this thread already. Grovers, do you remember what your friends toon names were?

Apos used to post here, from memory under the name Calimyr. At the time I started talking to him, I was a raider, but my guild (and raiding history) were nowhere near as good as Cestus. I PM'ed him back and forth about some crud, and at one point he was like 'here's my name, send me a tell.' The first night I was talking with him I still hadn't realized he was actually the GL of cestus and after like two hours of talking with him he went 'hold on dude, I'm leading jelvan and need to focus.' Then I realized I had been spamming the hell out of the leader of the top guild serverwide and was like holy crap.

I ended up talking with him a ton and due to dumb drama leaving my FV guild a couple months after that. I ended up on Luclin with a beastlord, and apped to cestus. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of using a character that I was not the original owner of and the asshat original owner took it back after about two months, so I didn't end up staying in cestus. Couldn't bring myself to level up another character after that much crud. CD was the most skilled group of people I've played with on average.

Gonna just summarize so I don't end up sounding like a complete fangirl, but:
a) Incredibly good cleric and highend raidleader in pretty close to the peak population time of EQ, but still took the time to respond to dumb questions from anyone who sent him a tell.

b) The most honest highend guild officer or leader I have ever met. Among other things, he not only refused to exploit encounters, but on at least a couple occasions refused to do encounters in the common way just because he thought it was not what the dev designing them intended. In the pop/god/oow era, probably 90% of guilds had at least one officer who actively used MQ to tell stuff like earth rings.

c) Did not buy in to the stuff about keeping everything about new events secret that a lot of other people did at the time. There was a time when people actually tried not to publicize item stats from newly beaten events and other dumb similar stuff.

Crap... that still made me sound like a fangirl.

Calimyr was awesome. He used to have a great way of talking about the end game in a very matter-of-fact way, not belittling to anyone who wasn't at his raiding level and always very interesting. It's too bad the old uBBs are forever gone because he had some great posts there that'd probably still be good reading today.

Calimyr and his brother Tehom.(Sp?) (Tehom may have been Gster mentioned in grovers post, I thought he played warrior) Awesome folks for this site.

Niami has a rolling pin as well as a recipe or two to her name in game.
My understanding she started eqtraders, with Ngreth doing a lot of the computer background work, and LOTS of folks adding to the site.
Anyone who knows the two from years of gaming recognize that any accolades and in game naming done are appropriate and wouldn't be seen as favoritism.
Ngreth was hired by Sony to revamp trade skills a few years after eqtraders.

Thanks Jophiel.

Skrax sent me a personal email (somehow I got a contact for him) with that guide way back in the day... and he was laughing because it was a couple years after he had done it and by the impression I got from the email he wasn't playing EQ anymore. Classy guy --most would have just ignored my odd request.

In a realm of red-headed stepchildren, many of whom suffer from severe tank envy, the ranger Kinvaras from Township Rebellion was always a calm voice of reason. If we ever get a useful Harmony spell again, it should be named after him!

I want to see a set of Skater Gnome armor with mad ninja action (you just have to remember to hit auto attack instead of just the round kick button over and over). :D

Speaking of gnomes, I've always kind of liked Glip the Gnome.

I don't it would be widely seen as favoritism and I don't think it would be favoritism - but I don't think it'll happen anyway because he is the kind of person who wouldn't want the possibility of the conception of it as such.

I would like to suggest three names from the history of Everquest. Perhaps you know them also.

Anezka is an Iksar who factioned herself through the world to be at least tolerated everywhere. These adventures were recorded with text and pictures on this website now viewable only through archive.
Anezka's Faction Guide, Or How the Turkey got some lovin'...

To view use the Wayback Machine

Monual is a Monk played by Richard Lawson who wrote of his adventures so clearly and with such excitement that he had many fans in the usenet forum alt.games.everquest. These reports still can be viewed at Google Groups. Some of the explorations can be used as a guide for players even today.

http://groups.google.com/groups/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&q=alt.games.everquest&btnG=Search&sitesearch=Use advanced search and insert Monual as the search term.

Sinzan Zizi is a Gnome Cleric recorded forever in films created by Guild Mirage. You probably remember "Has Anybody Here Seen My Corpse" and "Chain Complete Healing"

I would put in Kerasota, who was a damn fine rogue for Afterlife.. but also started a little side project called Lucy that I used to use pretty much every day.

That screenshot that shows Kerasota is funny. I have never seen a rogue sporting that look in game... almost 1970s disco diva with a really big spear.

My personal hall of fame would include a guy named Rummrum. He soloed his troll shaman to 50 on frogs... using only gear he made or earned... pretty sure he used no speedy travel, and he was a fantastic Role-player. I lost track of him years ago -had some of the most fun in EQ with that guy.

Not sure about Hall of Fame worthiness but there was an iksar shadowknight on Saryrn.... totally into RP and I had to learn iksar to converse with him, IIRC.

I had to fix my Kaladim faction to do my druid epic (umm.... too much dorf-guard killing, but we won't talk about that!) and so I "hired" him to pharm Crushbone belts for me to turn in for faction. We'd have to meet in secret places to do the transfer since he took very seriously the discriminatory faction issues that most of Norrath had againt iksars. He was secretive also, as far as I could discern, because he was also concerned that other iksars would shun him for dealing with a hobbit! Whole time we're doing the trades he'd be muttering, supposedly to himself, that he shouldn't be transacting with inferior races and he's offending Cazic Thule, etc.

I don't think he ever conversed outside of his role. Ironically one could make the case he was more true to the spirit of his race than any iksar who would go to the trouble of earning faction with "inferior races."

This was before my epic 1.0 so it had to be 2001.

I would like to add to that 'Lyzad Datormented' from AB, a SK ogre on AB. Lyzad for some reason only had the original eq (don't ask me why), played with old style graphics and decided that leveling too fast was going to mean he would run out of content soon so he decided to find the hardest thing to accomplish for an ogre and work relentlessly at his jagged pine faction. after months if not a couple of years he became max ally with them, there was nothing as funny as seeing Lyzad sit in Surefall and people wonder if he was a GM as none of the npcs attacked him.

Big, clumsy yellow Lyzad, one day did not login and never returned to EQ, at least not on AB and not on lyzad, I've missed him ever since. He was the inspiration for one of my good ones becoming max ally in Neriak, I'm still not there but working on it, and one day I will in honor of Lyzad.

He might not be as significant as other named, but he was the embodiement of what I remembered of the community in EQ in 1999/2000
