Ugh Redownloading EverquestFollow

#1 Nov 07 2009 at 11:01 AM Rating: Excellent
I have tried redownloading everquest a couple times on my dad's computer now, its up to date, the only thing is, his CDs aren't he has up to PoR, I do a full scan after I have to spend several hours downloading the damn updates, only to get this

"This Application has failed to start because d3dx9_30.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem"

Which I did, not a fun experience either, and still no avail....anyone mind helping me out here?

I think it might be because I don't have the latest ones downloaded, and the Sony site is so complex now, I used to remember there was a way to download files that you needed but that seems gone...

I remember many people had that problem a while back, but I forgot what we did to solve it. Maybe you need to download DX9.0c to your dad's PC, or maybe you should just Google the DLL you need?

Link to the current 9.0c in this thread.

I don't remember what the fix was for it either, but, one of the last bugs I remember had to do with the LoN folder. It's the LegendsOfNorrath folder in your EQ directory. The recommendation was to delete the folder and repatch.

A quick search of Sony's site found these helpful pages:
EQ Knowledge Base answer:
http://help.station.sony.com/cgi-bin/soe.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=15547&p_created=1112701159&p_topview=1

All the links, but appears to say basically the same thing in various formats, but I didn't spend alot of time checking them all:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&as_q=everquest++error&as_epq=d3dx9_30+dll+&as_oq=&as_eq=&num=10&lr=&as_filetype=&ft=i&as_sitesearch=sony.com&as_qdr=all&as_rights=&as_occt=any&cr=&as_nlo=&as_nhi=&safe=images

EDIT: Short version summary:
Download the latest video driver for your computer, being a laptop probably easiest to find this at the manufacturers website (brand name of laptop) and install it.

Download DirectX 9.0c and install it.

Delete the following files in your EQ directory:
eqclient.ini
eqgfx_dx8.dll
eqmain.dll
eqhardware.ini
eqgame.exe

Restart EQ Patcher, do complete file scan.

You need to update your Direct X to the latest version. That will fix that problem.

Note, if you're running Vista you'll have Direct X 10. You still need to install DX 9.0c (or higher) in order to run EQ. Vista can run both DX 9 and DX 10 concurrently, so there should be no problems there.
