"rarified air" doubling spawn rate of rare encountersFollow

Has this "doubling of spawn rate of rare encounters" trick been done before? I am asking because I am wondering what to expect, as in what encounters exactly have they modified for the weekend?

Any insight would be appreciated.

Edit: I have been told in game that "rare spawns in the last 5 expansions have been made more likely"

I'm guessing this just means they've increased the spawn rate of nameds. So they will be noticed to pop more often.

Nice "perk" but probably not nearly as attractive as another double-xp weekend but they don't want to risk killing the golden goose by going to that perk too often.

named npc's with a placeholder from the last 4-5 expansions have had their chance to spawn doubled.

This is actually in response to a player request that was made several months ago on the Sony board for a "double loot weekend" instead of double xp. His suggestion was that every named drop 2x their normal loot which was unreasonable but this is a pretty decent compromise.

I dunno about that. Given the way EQ's spawns work, this was a gimmick that wasn't even worth bothering with.

For example, if a named has a 10% chance to spawn per respawn cycle, is increasing it to 20% really going to make all that much difference? Is it going to be THAT noticeable?

From what I noticed this weekend, the answer to both is 'no'. The named mobs that you see a lot, you saw more (which isn't really saying much). The named mobs you don't see a lot, you still didn't see a lot.

I would've liked a 'Bonus XP weekend' more (the +50% xp thing), since double xp really shouldn't be done except for holiday weekends (or other periods where there's traditionally a lull in player online activity), in my view.

I can't say that I noticed any more rare mobs this weekend than any other weekend. In past weekends, I had the named spawn three times in a row, but this weekend, I never managed a back-to-back spawn. Yes, I know it is more related to the RNG than anything else.

I think a better promor would be to offer double spawn weekend with double the change of the mob dropping it's rare loot.

How about "full loot table weekend". They did it to the lame, seldom used quest named in Scarlet Desert. You kill one of them now you get 5-12 items it seems like --thanks to defiant, world armor, etc. drops, and most of them are useless.

Personally I think all named should drop a dragon hoard of stuff anyways. Sure the "rare" things can cycle but a level 40 named should drop a bagful of useful to level 40 stuff all the time. Norrath has the poorest (as in financially destitute) dragons in the fantasy world.

Example: The Muglwump is a level 25 "dragon" (giant tadpole actually).

He could easily drop 3-5 of the level 20-27 research only spells, a smattering of decent gems and 2-3 defiant pieces gauranteed per kill. This would not be unbalancing. His original loot is so bad by today's standards he could drop it all at once everytime and no one would care. Kind of sad actually.

Revitalize the Muglwump I say!

I camped the errie chest in Plane of Hate for a day and a half and got five:

In the past, I have camped the chest for weeks and never gotten a single one.

So, to answer the question of how far back the expansions for this "event".... all the way back.
