a.k.a. "Where is the weekend update thread!"

Well since it's my 4th week back in game I thought I'd start the weekend thread this week.

Sam has been soloing in Griegs End, Nurga and Droga and finally Sebilis. I got a few more levels and a LOT more AAs (as in 85 total now). I was sticking to old(older) world places just for fun and to see things I had only briefly seen in the past. Sebilis looks like it would have been a blast back in the day and I wish I had spent more time there after popping in once to fish.

I've been collecting tailoring stuff to skill up from the 150s to the 220s so I can make my druid a few ethereal silk swatch. I had completely forgotten how tedious trade skills can be as well as how completely focused you can get on getting "just the next set of ingredients" to the exclusion of all else. Case in point, I easily spent 2+ hours in the Ro Deserts looking for a raw-hide belt for my Teir'dal tradeskill book.

And finally, I actually died. I went to the Plane of Nightmare, being cocky after a full 4 weeks of everything going really really well. The level 60 task sent me there and even though I have heard people say "where can I hunt at level 60+, just don't suggest PoN." How bad could it be I thought? Well, after finding hobgoblins, I popped over the waterfall and then had targeting issues. Minor problems resulted in adds and before I knew it I was running (levitating) all along the river trying to find a way up with a massive train of slarghilugs following me. No trouble I thought... feign death... feign death... feign death... well forget it. Every one was botched by a spell landing on me by those chain casting evil things.

At least I can say that the death penalty is much less than I thought. I think I only lost about 8% of a level and to me that's not even worth a rez.

Back to tailoring for a bit and maybe I'll collect up enough silks and pelts to get myself 60 points higher. Sebilis, here I come again.

Well sam nice to see you posting again.
I dont start weekend updates anymore but will reply to them. It just was too depressing to see 4 replies, if I got that many.

Friday Off of work so I ran around a bit on winjon, turing in tribute items and doing the final combine to get the silverwin charm.
Later in the day I made potions with Jonwinnie, and then went to griegs end with Snailish's necro. Not a lot of fun for him, as mobs were green and grey but all mobs for me were LB. Got 2 aa and some exp strait up. Will stay near gate for a bit to try and gather exceptional shadow essence.

Saturday. Rainy day at work, had a group from Tri county Paranormal's do an overnight on the ship. I left happy not to have to do it with them.
Turns out they were up most of the night. One of the crew turned a handle to make sure it was shut, he was inside the cabin, the folks outside saw it and asked the"spirit" to do it again as a sign.
In game I played the ranger in griegs, burned lod but only one more essence dropped.
Ran into a mage who looks like they are afk merc killing. Healer merc and mage pet up in one room to the side, no roamers. Resisted the urge to bring him some extra mobs to skill up on.
After ranger I logged on beastlord, set up a pet and shrouded to save items. Plan on running the 55 Bl to veksar and greigs for the augs.

Sunday. Most of the day at the Md. Renn faire, last day. Wore my Navy uniform for the day of WRONG. Went to anthor costume party for work as well.
In game ran the beastlord to veksar, no real problem there most mobs LB. Got the drop but not able to get far enough in to kill mobs for the zone quest. Griegs end here i come.

So not alot of EQ...but did finally get the net set up, so.

Got the Warrior and Shaman in Attiki as I try for the illusion Spectre...

Took my 2 newb warriors ( a barb and an Ogre ) to the Crypt of Dalhnir...got from 24 to 29 there...kinda fun

Got new Cleric to 61 to level with my 63 Rogue in Veksar...such a fun zone, and even more so now that it is HOT Smiley: sly

Good luck on the job hunt. Watch out for fires, unless you are a fire fighter then it is a really hot market to be in.

Hooray, someone beat me to starting the update! Spent the weekend only playing my 70 necro.

Friday at Grieg's End with Jonwin was fine, it's a zone I have never done much and aspire to breaking the 2nd floor. I can get XP anytime, spending time online with fun people is harder to set up.

Saturday I wasn't on too long, but did the tier 1 cycle in Plane of Hate twice for fun. Make about 1k plat in drops and got nothing fancy. I remember wanting the Marsinger quest drops so badly ages ago...

Sunday I went on a tour. First I thought I'd try the Buried Sea --an expansion I've owned for years and barely stepped into. Didn't fare too well (inefficent kills with lots of adds and pet deaths) as the mobs I needed run awfully fast when snared, let alone when resisted. Thinking I need some more AA to solo it well with my limited awareness of the zone and its inhabitants.

Also met my first Cliknar invader in Toxxulia, figured a DB mob I could at least toy with. Resist snare, distant spawns both aggro, FD casting... loading please wait. Add the little bugs to my revenge list!

Did the Franklin Teek task for PoN, but it (the zone) was too easy so I tried Halls of Honor, Plane of Tactics, and Plane of Fire in that order. HoH was boring me but probably a safe grind overall. Tactics the summoning was going to do me in so I gave up. PoFire I had only been to once before and likely would do okay once I find a better camp (zone in area was mob busy).

Nearing the end of my night I decided to go to Plane of Sky, knowing full well that I was going to die whether successful or not (since eventually I would hit a DT mob). Fortunately I managed to aggro most of Gorgalosk Island off one mob so I didn't spend too long in Sky either.

Fun time all around, although some new tour destinations may be in order.

Thanks, and I understand your point. I was never one to contribute to weekend updates before because I shy away from grandstanding in any form. I guess I can throw that baby out the window right now.

It's rather concerning to me to see the only forum I knew as a real home so... lacking in traffic. While there are clearly people playing on the servers, this was always just a microcosm; I just can't imagine where else people would come for EQ help and community. I wish it were just as simple as everyone here taking a free transfer to "server x" so the existing community would be even more meaningful.

I'm really wishing I had a merc or a friend - I was in Veksar with my 61 druid and it was rough handling the summoning mobs. I'm more curious though, with a cleric and rogue, who is tanking? That's a really unusual duo.

When I am active in EQ I post in the weekend updates. I seldom do anything particularly impressive (even to myself), but its like show and tell in kindergarten. It's kind of interesting to here what everyone else values.

This go-round in EQ the past few months I have started alot of the WU threads. That wasn't the case in the past but some of those regulars are on hiatus. Maybe they come back though, so I like to keep the tradition alive.

There's been a reasonable number of registered lurkers on lately when I have been on and often 2-3 times as many anonymous people. I'd like to see those anon types join up for real. Boards active with a variety of threads are certainly a better sell in that respect.

The weekend update thread has been going on as long as I can remember, and I have no idea who originally started it. Every forum needs people to push it and those people change from year to year as they have here.

I'm also seeing the lurkers, and I do realize that Zam seems to have taken a network-wide hit in the last year - probably from dilution among all their affiliate sites.

The bottom line is I agree, an active forum is a happy forum and I'll be doing my best to post even the stupid questions I normally reserve for really dire need. I may have 1000 posts but I'm just as much a newb as someone that started last month. Maybe we need a "stupid question of the week" thread too.

My SK did the low 60's and a bunch of AAs in Sebilis down by the Juggernauts. Assuming Trakanon's not up, his lair is a really easy place to set up camp since you have a huge area to pull into, FD in and rest in without any mobs hassling you. Juggs should be dark blue to you and have the usual Kunark era benefits of low hp and low damage by modern standards.

I just found the Juggs, cleared my way in and cleared the room. It was extremely exciting I can assure you. Full blues that pulled in 1-3s, enraged, and then dropped so many spells I filled my inventory.

The door locked behind me, more excitement really. I have an OT hammer so I am never stranded but I am still wondering what drops that key and where the port out is (don't tell me, I am going back with more space and time this week).

Here's the answer in spoiler form!

There is no key. You need to either port out or wait for a wandering Jugg to open the door as it passes through.

For locked doors to which you do not have a key. Stand next to door, have an illusion on. Click off illusion. You are now on other side of the door.
Its the reason I am going to try and get the haloween mask again for my paladin.

I do not know if this works for shrink/grow potions. I will try it out and see.

Eye of Xomm clickies are also good for that particular door, since the door clicky is on the other side.

Anyway, very productive weekend for Sslasheer on Tunare. Got three upgrades from FC raid, and all of my TSS Rk 3 tomes.

Since TBS is a hot zone, decided to work on the Hand Aug some more. I had about 1/9th of it done previously, but gotten over 1/2 way finished over the weekend.

One night last last week, can't remember which day, but was either Wed or Fri, completed all of the T4 DoN raids, and got Stormeye Band. Yar`Lir dropped two of them which was unbelievable to me, remembering how few have dropped over the years.

Have a good week all, and have fun everyone!

I thought you couldn't force Eyes of Xomm through walls/doors any longer. I know I wasn't able to do the "Stand at Sebilis zone-in and push an Eye through to spy on Trakanon" move last time I played. I'd just wind up standing on my Eye.

Hmm, maybe, last I had heard you could still use it there, but that was a few years ago at least. They keep taking away all the fun stuff, I've rarely if ever used :D

I still haven't read Jophiel's spoiler but the illusion trick obviously would do the trick over Halloween anyway (that's about the only time I'll have an available illusion without any form changing masks).

On the note of taking away the fun stuff - I can still remember when they nerfed the Reaper of the Dead from instant cast to 30 seconds. Unlike other nerfed items, even existing Reapers were nerfed. For a 1 charge lore item, that was pretty harsh.

Sat;
The cleric was the one doing the tanking...with the undead spells it was hard not to grab aggro...now I did have a cleric merc ( I guess that makes it a trio )Smiley: dubiousso that my battle cleric could just kill,kill,kill...I did avoid the "living" creatures ( like the Golems ) and I don't know that any of the non named dead summon.

I started a new wizard on Povar to play with Jonwin and Snailish. So far, mostly soloing in blightfire moors and mesa. The xp has been coming in nicely with using a tank merc. I am thinking of adding a box toon but not sure what I want to roll yet.
