A simple question with a simple answer (well for most of us). I left it so we can hear why you're buying it or not or haven't decided. I didn't want to put assumptions as part of the answers.

Will you purchase the Underfoot expansion?
Yes:448 (63.4%)
No:110 (15.6%)
Maybe:149 (21.1%)
Total:707

Even though I don't really play anymore I may still buy the expansion. Something about new expansions always bring me back. Even though for the most part I've only seen the group content, and not all of that with SoD, I still like knowing I have all the expansions. Plus the free stuff is always fun!

Had to pick maybe... since I still haven't bothered to get Seeds of Destruction.

I've done so little of the 65+ game it is not like I need more things to do. I understand the majority needs some fresh stuff. I like the concept of Underfoot though, so that might compel me.

This may be a dumb question, but before I answer... What exactly is in this expansion? Their site is utterly useless at figuring that out.

That is a very good question, I have been asking for some time.

All I can boil it down to at the moment is some new targeting system, some achievement system, few new zones, new AAs, new spells. Oh, and half of it released in December and the rest in April. I think most people are assuming the usual $40 price tag which seems like an awfull lot for what they are previewing thus far.

I am firmly on the"maybe" fence at the moment until I see exactly what is on offer - or get a glimpse at beta.

I also agree that their website leaves a lot to be desired on just what exactly the UF expansion is. Being a returning player with no interest in level-cap or raid content, I'm not buying into that if that's all it is.

Basically, until they come out with exactly what features are included in the expansion aside from all this pre-release hype about getting in early if you complete certain tasks - it's a definite maybe for me. SOE is usually VERY good at putting in hooks for all levels of players, whether it's more bank slots or all level missions/tasks. If there's anything at all I could use, I will likely get it since it will enable SoD as well for me.

Really dumb, from a business point of view, for them not to increase the level cap with this expansion. That's always the biggest incentive to "motivate" players to buy an expansion.

It makes me wonder as well. The last "supposed to be a level cap+ ended up not being one" expansion was GoD... it didn't fare so well at launch to my memory.

Possibly not enough population was deep enough into SoD raiding and they were worried about stretching people out too thin resulting in frustration (and therefore potential exodus of player)?

Maybe.

It depends what it has to offer besides what has already been revealed. The features so far are a definite no.

most likely i won't be bothering with this one - everything i have read so far just doesn't seem like anything that will interest me. i'll admit that so far this seems to be the best thought out storyline of the expansions.. it seems to have a little more depth and detail than most... but even with that said, it isn't a storyline i care much about - a whole slew of new indoor/underground zones where i can't use my horse, whoopie!
but, i'm going to wait until it's acctually out before i pass final judgement...

For now, I go in the "maybe" pile.

I'll probably buy it eventually, but I won't be pre-ordering or trying it early, despite having participated in the requisite events. So far, I agree with everyone to date about lack of info being a buzzkill for this expansion. The rumor-to-fact ratio is 10:1 instead of its usual 2:1, and most of the people I know being pessimists (myself included) if half the rumors are true, it's going to have to wait until I see some justifying light before buying.

A few rumors include: purely monster mission expansion (see also: Old Man McKenzie), all indoor zones, new names for same old foci, more ranks of the same AAs, new bankspace-murdering tradeskill system, etc.

The new cultural tradeskill system has been confirmed, but not the bank-murdering part of it.

Maybe here... it will largely depend on whether or not they do another server merge. For me ...Prexus... my 10 year plus guild is all but dead. I see other guilds popping up but none with real substance.

Server Merge = Yes I will buy the new expansion. If I have to wait for a merger, then I will wait to buy the expansion. No sense in buying something unless you can use it huh?

I understand your point about the mounts, at the same time the lack of compelling indoor group content (I love the old-school linear dungeons) has kept me lurking expansions behind for years. Maybe this is the one that makes me "grow up and level up" as it were...

You mean like Sol B, Sebilis and The Hole where the mobs get harder the deeper you go?

Yeah, that I miss too. When you go into the SoD dungeons the mobs are all the same difficulty except for the random named. Very boring.

I am thinking I may just wait and purchase underfoot when the next expansion comes out with a lvl increase, seeing as all previous expansions are now bundled. I am thinking that I will be able to gain AAs better in SoD and SoF zones than in underfoot seeing as the mobs that just showed up near the hole as trash mobs are hitting in the 3-4k range and often.

Do keep in mind that the current plan is to release only one-half of the expansion in December with the rest expected sometime in April. In other words, pay in full but only receive part of your purchase.

Do also keep in mind that the original launch date was changed once already.
Also keep in mind that the third "pre-launch, get into Underfoot early" event has yet to have started.

Probably not, because I don't trust SOE to deliver the second half of the expansion.
#21 Oct 17 2009 at 6:11 PM Rating: Default
I will purchase this expansion since I've completed the SoD expansion on my main as far as group content goes. I'm a retired raider so I'm always looking for decent group content.

I used to say that if they opened up a realm with Brell, I'd have to jump back into the game. However, I just can't see it. I'm probably 4 or 5 expansions behind at this point, and I just don't have the energy for it.

I'd be interested in any screenshots of Brell if they do have him as a boss though.

I voted no but they always seem to put some kind of hook in the new expansion (mercs for example) that makes it worth shelling out the 40 bucks in the end.
#24 Oct 18 2009 at 11:19 AM Rating: Good
Lol, I picked Yes, but there needs to be a 4th choice of get it free because you went to Fan Faire :)

#25Aorora, Posted: Oct 18 2009 at 2:50 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I'm surprised by all the noob responses on this board. Anyone who has been in the game for several years and who is not in a guild that raids, is missing out on half the content in the game and then they whine about the lack of content. If you are only interested in group level content, go buy yourself a PS3 and stop complaining about the introduction of exciting raid content.

Actually Everquest is a massive game that supports all kinds of play styles, including solo, small group, just friends, group, guild, and raids. That's one of the amazing things about the game that there's something to appeal to nearly everyone.

People playing the game in different ways than you aren't doing it wrong, they're doing it their way just like you are. A good company wanting to sell products generally tries to support all possible consumers - in the case of a MMOG we're talking about soloers to raiders. That's why a couple people mentioned "hooks" - things to draw people in regardless of their play style.

Be inclusive, accept the way others play, it makes you friends and makes the world a better place. Everyone logging in to EQ is keeping the game alive - that's me, you, and everyone else, regardless of their play style.
