Hello
Ive been playing EQ since 2000 off and on over the years and while I truely like the game and would love see it grow some , these are the problems I see (wonder why nobody else does).

WE as a whole can make EQ better if we want.
1 70s and above are very rude to newbies.
2 Baz prices how the heck is a level 40 supposed buy Flawed and lower gear at 1k a peice or more.
3 Buffs I find it funny how a newbie charector has beg for Temp ,when Gallentry is cast 10 steps away , but yet his plee for Temp is ignored( buffs are overrated Ive been told but every HIGH end toon as to have ,but low level dont need ).

That just a few things eat at me ,there is more ,lots more as a whole if we get a little more friendly and welcome some new blood and help alittle maybe take the time walk the guy to the zone we are in , as I recently did for a Monk that sendt me a tell for gpr ,he had no idea how to get to Ascent ,so I took time explian how get there ,I didnt need him as like most I box a lowbie set a chrs now 63 monk(alt) and 63 shammy(alt) ,but he wanted grp and I like help folks ,so shortening the story he just couldnt find his way thru stillmoon so i had run my shammy out (as was at top a ascent and run him back at cost of a death)to get him and run him to my Monk, so take a minute ask how long he as played , if a newbie take under your wing and help him around the game, show him a nice spot to level, maybe help get him a peice a gear that makes him go wow thats nice ( like bait to fish, lure him in ).

If an returning player, ask where he left off and offer help him or her or offer a better alternative or better yet offer some friendship.

I am a lvl 83 ranger(main) ,played on a TOP raid (not a raider ,dont have time, many I meet, seems their heads are way to big and their attitudes suck being ubber dosent give you the right be a A hole) server and now Im wandering around trying new servers ,tryng find a more helpful less mandatory raid guilds ,didnt get 1.0 till 70( soloed) ,didnt get 1.5(partialy soloed) till 78 and wont get 2.0 till I can find some way to solo it, which I wont as takes a grp get in Anguish so Im never get my 2.0( as if I could tank the mob that drops orb, LOL) as most just dont want go back and help folks that are new or they dont know ,its so hard make friends in this game.( or I can pay for it which I wont)

I do like raid actually love it and have been in raid guilds, cant get anywhere due to DKP pointes or what ever else they use as most in guild have mass DKP or what ever system is used, would take a mild player like me yrs get the pointes to get a drop ,Ive seen a drop or 2 I could use go to alts or a quest once when I could use but lacked the pointes, The loot to quest was due to trying get the other guild to merg with them to better their raid numbers,so was acceptable to me as wanted better for my guild but lose to an officers alt is BS.

Most my friends I used have, dont play now and 1 that does I followed to another server and Im so much more worse off than I was ,as now I cant even get in a decent guild( ask Gen chat and even run a ad on the boards in G lobby),sure I can get afamily guild but want my 2.0 not many family guilds can pull that off and if they are working on SoD prog they do it with achosen few and fill rest space with mercs,so Im still soloing and still no 2.0.( but yet on this new server Im on, have I even been invited to a family guild that grps within it self, joined 1 guild and in the month ive been on this new server NOT 1 grp and I offer my services routinely).

Even if Im lucky enough find a guild it still is clicky and the higher ups dont even acknowledge the new person in guild ,let alone grp with him ,I know lots suck at thier class and we could also be to blame for that as we that know our class can mentor one who seems worthy ,instead a seeing that new guild mate soloing in a HZ alone ,say hey want join me and Ill give a few pointers to playing your class, told I suck at my class ,LOL, and I prolly do as Ive seen some great played rangers, with spells and skills Ive yet to learn or aqquire the spells, wanted a spell in Bloodmoon, cant solo in there, mobs hit to hard ,so a Guildy asked if anyone needed any help, waitted nobody spoke ,so I said I can use some help in Bloodmoon for a spell ,well he say what spell I tell him ,he says 1 sec lemme look it up,comes back says U dont need that spell its only a nuke and wouldnt help :-( Im a soloer not by choice but by chance if I want play EQ that is how I have play it and hence I solo I have that soloer mindset and lack grp skills ,this lack of grp skills is my fault ?? even if I ask for grps daily ,as Im not 1 set around and ask for grps ,I ask 1 or 2 times and move off to try get something done ,as setting in GL asking 3 or more times leads to total dissappointment and I get nothing done),

I recently solo Viod C was a pain ,like 30 deaths but I did it,so In time with right level and AAs Id like believe I can get some better gears and loots ,but it gets harder and harder so NO ,I doubt Ill solo anymore SoD access LOl trying get in Kurns tower ,I try ,die ,rez, work more AAs and try ,die ,rinse n repeat till I eventually get what Im after, been my play style, but think Im done soloing have to have help now and impossible to get it seems ,I dont want a task add I want to actually do the content,I want be proud of what I got ,dont want it handed to me.

Also Im sick to death of the folks I have met linking me all their uber gear ,cause they have a ubber friend( or pay for it) that can get them SoD access and gears, the guy who last week when I met him was 57 and now while being 45 days old is now better geared than my Charector of many seasons, while some say its my fault Im not ubber I like say How so I ask for grps I ask for help and I have asked for my epics and have even sat quitely and helped every person that has asked for help ,till I felt I had earned eough credit to ask for help on my 2.0 and yet LOL I still dont have my 2.0 as last 2 guilds would take their close PLed friends and get their SoD gears and epics ( I know SK level 57 when I met 4 days old ,now 85 1k AAs,28k unbuffed and now 45 days old,I helped him get his 1.5 and some SoD tasks done ,now he dosent even know me ,was hopeing help him and get some in return, didnt work like that he ubber now and all he does is link me his new gears ,never has he asked where u at on SoD prog?? can I help ,no he ubber now dont want nor need that gimp ranger that tracked and killed greys and greens for friendship and some help ,hell LOL he will run by me now if he see's me ,once :-( he watched me die trying solo a named in FoS and then killed it and Linked the Loot to me :-(.

All in all if we want game to remain active and around in a few yeasr I think its up to US to make it more player friendly ,remember how it was for you as a lowbie alone in this HUGE,sometimes beautiful and scary world SOE? variant created for us/so SOE wont advertise or try pull newbies in ,we can pull them in with kindness get it known we are a helpful and friendly community, lower baz prices LOL wth u cant take it with you when YOU or GAME dies its gone PFFT gone no more EQ no more plat, this selling no trade drops for 30k and essences for 20 k ,payng for grps and so on I know we have make plat some how but did you get charged for your SoD prog if U did Im sorry and if u didnt how did u get it with help from friends and maybe that lone ranger type who never gets a grp just got lucky and found you looking for a grp and now your Ubber and have all your SoD done why not think Umm wonder what (insert class, name here ) is doing wonder if he/she has gotten any farther than the last time I grped with him or her and send a tell ,who knows maybe he/she hasnt gotten that far and sure would love the help and truly appreciate it ,I know I would .

Lot of stuff we can do as a whole make game more friendly and to draw new players in or returning players ,just think If Im haveing trouble and play off and on over the years (never more than a 6 month break)theres got to be more in same boat Im in ,be better try take active role in trying make game better for ourselves and the rest in game than whine about SOE not advertising and promoteing a game that is 11 yrs old and they are not going to promote it we have get that in our heads ,so its up to us as I see it and the community to make the newbies and/or returning players welcome and want to stay ,as we are now the way I see it they are not welcome and If I see that somebody else as too( I hope)

I know grammer off and sentenceing prolly sucks ,That 1 the reason I rarely post as It gets shoved in my face as well.
thank for reading and hope something I said makes sence to somebody if even one .

Just one small comment about not casting temp.
Temp is a quested spell. Its not bought. A lot of clerics leveled so fast they didnt bother to do the quest, which does involve some camping of a PH for the turn in.

As to your other stuff, the defiant gear is sold on NPC vendors in POK. They set the standards for bazaar prices. On povar you dont have to pay 1k for flawed. You dont have to buy defiant at all or you can buy the older armor with less stats for a lot less. You know the armor that was to die for 3 years ago.

In the bazzar you dont have to pay the price being asked you can always wait to see what you can get cheaper.

Group temp is pretty cheap and available though (I know my crummy researcher was making it easily on my old server last time I tradeskilled). No time sink there. Skipping temp as a cleric does send a message: no time for low levels or lowbies.

People are welcome to send any message they wish. In the spirit of what the OP is saying: "Wouldn't it be nice if we were all nicer?".

But then again, I do drive by buffings and refuse donations --so I suppose I am the type of character that makes time for lowbies even if it isn't beneficial to my characters development directly (in an XP loot sense).

Baz prices are often nuts. Wise people buy low, even for something they "need". Most classes could go 1-30 naked with skin spikes and not have issues. TSS quest gear for lowbies also makes the "need" of the better defiant gear debabable (the TSS gear is already overpowering for the old content at that level). But, we shouldn't assume new or returning players know these things.

On povar Group temp is listed 3 time at around 900 plat. But if folks are running to 60 plus there is no need to spend it. That was my point.

Flawed gear in bazaar on povar is from 50 plat to 2k. Guess the folks selling at 2k are in for a long wait.

I think the intent of the OP was great, but a little bit of a whine.

I dont usually take donations for buffs and I do drive by buffing as well.
But with the reduced server population, I have had to ask questions and wait a bit for an answer, not because folks were being "mean" but because they were busy or couldn't answer it.

I agree with alot you said. Characters are actually 'people' you know? I could care a less how uber you are, how many aa's you have or what your 'level' is .. I enjoying meeting new 'people'.

I am one of the people who remembers what it was like when I was a noobie. I have fond memories of people who took the time to help me just by chatting with me, or gave my an Orc Fang Earring which was uber!! I love noobs, I enjoy answering the noobie questions. "Pro-Tip" I take them under my wing too if they do not start begging on the first day : ) Make them up a nice set of trio, or armor etc.

I would suggest the OP go make a character on Mayong, make the same class with the same even. Its not filled with uber's yet, its very freshing to be meeting alot of folks who have just started out. It has a high population so you'll meet some jerks, but overall the people I've met so far are great, made quite a few new friends so far. Ton's of guilds all recruiting... you should really give it a go.

Rotyb,
From the overall negative tone of your post I can't see why you would want to play the game at all.

If this is the same tone of chat you use in game, I personally would have a very tough time spending any time with you myself.

But then I can see that you probably wouldn't want to spend any time with me because I don't have the uber gear or the endless time to power you up to raid level status.

I spend a ton of time working on my very average toons, not comparing myself to the uber-linked stuff, just working my guys to the next available advance that I can get with my toons or maybe a friend or two, or the odd guild member that may log in.

If I spent all the time thinking about the problems that you have outlined,
(and it seems from your post that you have spent an enormous amount of time on this)
anyway if I spent all this time thinking about those problems I would get depressed and I wouldn't want to play anymore.

I guess that what I am saying is that I am choosing to enjoy the game that I know and participate in rather than be depressed about the parts of the game that I can't participate in.

I honestly hope that this stuff works out for you and you get what you need to from your post and the game itself...so ...

Good Luck. Smiley: smile

The game doesn't resemble anything close to what it started out to be, and there really isn't any way to bring it back to what it once was.

In my experience most every decent person (on my friends list anyways) has gotten fed up with the jerk offs and left. So what you have left are the jerk offs for the most part.

I'd have to say on my 6 weeks on Mayong I have met dozens of great people and maybe 3 notable jerks, with the overall server atmosphere being friendly and fun.

My friends list on Quellious were all awol last time I tried there but just before I logged someone I didnt know sent me a tell: an old friend had rolled a new character after I left and was higher level with that new main they we had been previously together. They had just happened to find my name in a /who search looking for a certain class and wondered if it was really me as it had been years.

Lots have quit sure, but many have been reborn or relocated.

I am not saying everyone is a jerk. I am just saying that over the years the game has changed and so have the people who play it. I have personally been in guilds who's members run as fast as they can into the GH lest they get asked for a buff. People who don't join general chat because they don't want to be bothered with questions. People that will just train you for your camp or worse yet just over run your camp and tell you to F' off because there are no camps in EQ.

My point is, for a game geared for social play there is a lot of unsocial people in it and people are smart enough to go somewhere else. Not that there isn't still some great peeps left in it willing to lend a hand once in a while, but they are just more few and far between now.
