Yet another question from the returned player. Given I haven't played since Luclin came out (a long time ago), I keep reading about the planes. Are the planes soloable now as compared to the old raids that used to occur. For example, Fear, Hate, Air, etc are doable now as one person with pet or merc? Does the same go for mobs like Nag, Vox, Venril, etc.? Sorry for these questions but I could certainly understand why these zone be scaled down some given the server population and all but I also don't believe everything I hear since the state of EQ was so very different when I left long ago.

Depeneds on your level and AAs. You couldn't solo fear or hate at level 40, but at level 75 with 2000 AAs, it should be OK (I picked two extreems.)

As for Vox and Naggy, you cannot attack them if you are greater than level 55. They banish you from the zone.

Edit to correct the banishment level for Vox and Naggy.

Actually, Fear is hard cause of the Deathtouch mobs. They are Raid zones, so your out of combat regen is 5 minutes, not 2. But they are fun. If you have the guildhall, you can buy a "ride" to Hate from the vendor in the guildhall.

You can do some of the Kunark dungeons now...Seb and Howling Stones...I raise my toons fighting here...not great loot, but fun to fight in.

So, it would seem EQ has been toned down in the older lands along with the higher level cap and expandable AA's. It is just hard to imagine soloing some of these zones that were even unthinkable with a raid group back in the day.

It is not that these places have toned down in themselves, it is just that players have become far more powerful.

Think about the gear that is available now, the level increases, all the enhancements that were just not availabe when those zones were new. Merceneries, potions, OOC regen, the guild lobby and corpse summoning to mention just a few things that have changed.

Plane of Hate is pretty just just another xp zone these days. PoFear has death-touching mobs which would make killing the bosses a problem and there's little good reason to waste time hunting the trash mobs and risking chain aggro unless you need a quest/epic drop. Likewise for Plane of Growth (especially with the Protectors or whatever they're called).

As mentioned, Vox and Naggy are level capped but the Kunark and Velious dragons (and many if not most Luclin raid mobs) are routinely soloed these days. Again, their drops aren't worth much with a couple exceptions here and there but folks do it for the giggles. Before I left EQ, I had a lvl 1 paladin sitting in Umbral Plains to pick up drops from soloing Doomshade, Rumblecrush and Zelthiak and that was with a lvl 72 Shadowknight doing the soloing.

A few years back I played an Iksar Beastlord from 1-51 in only content up to Luclin. Only wore drops I looted or quested solo. It was a challenge and my stats at 51 were terrible by LDoN era (let alone when I was doing it or now) standards.

I haven't had the urge to do this again since, nor did I play that character after "winning EQ" at 51. Beastlord would be one of the easiest classes to do this with, and the content was quite difficult at times. Even with the changes you can't turn off (ooc regen) it would still be a tough thing to do today.

I'd suggest most players enjoy being "overpowered" for the lowbie (relatively speaking) grind, hence the popularity of "twink" items in the bazaar.
