more populated than eq2?Follow

i've read through the forums and from what i've come to understand is that EQ is suffering from lack of players. however, i was wondering to what extreme.

i started playing EQ back before kunark and up until PoP, when i quit for FFXI. i've been playing that and WoW since then, and EQ2 in between.

recently, i went back to EQ2 for a change of scenery, and was really bummed to see that there was never more than 5 people in a zone, and no major city/zone where everyone mingled at.

my question is, is EQ the same way? where you just kind of do your own thing, and rely on guild chat for social activities, or is there some booming town where it feels like you're playing an MMORPG?

unfortunately, nostalgia isn't enough to bring me back, but if there is some player base, i'd give it a shot.

There is a new server called Mayong. You start out level 51 with 50 AA, all skills except trade skill ones and the spell skill specialization capped for level 51. You also get a full set of flawed defiant armor (think old 60 to 70 group armor with focus) and various weapons.

I read there are plenty of groups to be had on this server. This would be a good place for you to look into since you enjoy the social part of game.

As for EQ population no idea, I believe only the peps at SoE know this answer.

Population really isn't the problem. All you really need is 6 people right? So the problem with EQ lies with getting a group (even a guild one) on a steady basis.

With the advent of bazaar buyable "uber" gear with stats that surpass most expansions raid drops, there is very little incentive to explore past the few camps that can raise your level the quickest, and later the few camps in the few zones anyone ever wants to go to. In short it has become a race to the highest level.
