What are your thoughts on PUG'sFollow

I'm curious what our community thinks about Pick Up Groups. I use to check for peps LFG from time to time. As more and more tells "Hey want to join me in Zone X" went unanswered I find myself not hitting the LFG key no more. I've never asked anyone to join me with my 55 pally, due to my slow kill rate vs the kill rate with mercs. So many times trying to get someone lfg to your zone can become a game in it self (not fun game). I guess it makes more sense to offer a group just with a toon in the zone your in. So after 20 minutes of showing the toon to the zone you was hunting in, you either get I got to log or lets go to zone Y. Smiley: motz Don't get me wrong I love small duos or trios minus mercs, it just seems to be a lot of work, roling the dice to find that diamond in the rough.

What are your thoughts ?

I think most avoid them like the plague simply because of that risk of the a) truly horrendous players or b) annoying types who try to take things over/drive you crazy

Since I spend 98% of my time soloing, I actually welcome pug's when I finally get the opportunity to join one, if only because of the variety and change of pace.

When I'm in a group, I pay careful attention to what other folks say and do - it's a good way to learn about what folks around my level are up to these days (I need to get out more...). I also like to see how other folks play their class...or not, as the case sometimes is.

Worst-case scenario is a slow-motion train wreck kind of group, which is still kind of fun, in the sense that watching people mess up always has its own kind of charm.

But I never had a problem with them per se, mainly because I always know EQ was a social game, like all MMORG's, and quite frankly, I'm possibly the most unhurried player on the server. I do things at my own pace, and a bumbling group just adds variety to a night otherwise spent soloing mobs (which gets kinda boring).

Hard to say really. I found the less experience people have in the game (or less time spent playing)the more they are willing to group w/o knowing you.

The more elite they think they are the less likely they are to pick up someone to fill out a group. Back in an old guild I was in most people would just not play if they couldn't get an all guild group together. They would just log off. LOL.

I also find that if someone is playing at around the top levels (80-85ish) they pretty much know what they are doing. It's the people who can't get above 65 that I worry about. They are the ones who tend to toon hop w/o really getting to know how to play.

I cannot imagine how boring this game would be if I never encountered strangers in my groups. How sterile and paranoid. Might as well play online blackjack and only choose computer opponents if you are going to freak out if joe_nobody joins your group because he might have twelve fewer AA or a couple armor pieces from last expansion.

PUGs are what made this game awesome. People who avoid PUGs are the biggest contributors to EQ's slow death.

I agree. PU groups are fun. I've met people from all over the country and around the world that way. Sure, occasionally you meet a real loser but those are rare.

They have their challenges, though, especially when it comes to getting new members to an established camp. Just recently we had a camp at "tents" in Velks, the area with the Icepaws. A necro responds to our call to join the group. One would think a necro travels well, eh? Well, we could see him losing HPs as he made his way up the icy ramps of Velks. Finally, after about 20 minutes, he's getting close. Then he falls to his death in the Pit and starts asking for a drag and rez. This was on the new server, so everybody's broke and paying for a summons to the GL is an unbearable expense. Sure enough this involved a LOT of time not devoted to XP gain.

But it did bring back old memories of long-winded corpse runs and helping other players so it still wasn't a total loss.
