Hi All,

I have recently returned to the game after a 4 year absence and have been leveling my enchanter, I am part of a very small guild and i have noticed we have a high lvl enchanter already but we have no bard at all.

I am considering starting a bard but i am unsure if a bard would be useful to the group and if it would be able to solo without a merc.

Any advise of a Bard would be greatly appreciated.

A well played bard is an addition to any group or guild. A poorly played one is not.
There are other threads on this forum, a few recent ones, about playing a bard, so good hunting on your search!

If you are familiar with EQ, the concept of pulling, and do not suffer from lag issues, then a bard is a good class. With clerics almost becoming a lost class along with decent warriors since the introduction of mercs, groups tend to have very high dps, healing and often tankage. What they lack are pullers (sometimes) and buffers. Bards come with a wonderful line of songs that enhance groups perfectly in whatever situation they encounter. If you are a person that doesn't have to afk every 5 minutes, then yes. Bard is a great class to play and offers a lot to any group or raid. Become a good bard, and you'll never be wondering where to find a group. There will always be room for you.

Bards are not an easy class to play. If you like to take it easy and just loaf around during a fight or suffer from an inability to pay attention then being a bard may not be for you. It is probably one of the most demanding classes to be played. It requires you to have a good grasp and understanding of what each class can and cannot do. You also have to have a thick skin as a bard. You will at times accidentally wipe your entire group on a pull cause they were all afk and you missed it being said, or you might have to reclaim your camp some bullies pushed themselves into. When you're good you'll have to know when to tell a tank they suck and when to tell slackers to stop going afk cause they are slowing down the momentum of the group. On the same note, you'll also have to recognize real people have to sometimes afk and toons have to med, so you will have to know when to slow down.

Bards, when they are good, become center stage to any group when they are pulling.

The boy has a point, bards are not boring. keeping aura and 4 songs up while pulling and adding dps... or messing 3 while group kills 1. Once you get bards down, people will love you. ***** up once people will remember you.

Don't forget their ability to mez or charm mobs for crowd control or even add the charmed mob as a pet for a short time for added dps. Other than that I think everything else is covered.

Bard's a great class to play and always in demand, for groups and for raids. Only thing is it's a bit of a challenge for new players, although it's easier now with the /melody command allowing you to keep several songs going at once without the kind of constant keystrokes you used to need to keep doing.
