AA Questions: I remember when AA first came out and there was a requirement for so many general points then arch type then class. Although I see a lot written about where to put the points (most of this is confusing), I cannot find a simple guide that explains how these work in terms of the three basic levels. At this point I have about 5 AA points and I only put 10% of my experience into AA.

Shaman Spell Research Questions: I have mostly focused on Healing classes and the general approach to spells is that we go to a vendor and buy them. Later, when the vendors aren't selling higher level spells, we go to the bazaar and buy them. The magic welders worried about Pens, Knowledge Books, Runes and Research which was fine with me. Now I gather (based on going to a guild trainer for the first time in 130 training points that research is a skill we have) that for the high end Shaman spells, we need to get them by researching, and so, because they are so expensive at the Bazaar I guess I need to learn how to do that. (Does my SK need to start learning to do research as well?) Casters realm used to have a good guide for the magic users, but that site doesn't provide good information like it used to.

There no longer is so many pts in General before Archetype, nor Archetype before Class. Simply click on the AA in the window and it will tell you what the requirements are. For the basic ones, it's generally just level, but for the more advanced, they often require so many ranks of another AA to start.

As far spells go, for new expansions, before you can research a spell, it's still the same way .. buy some, faction work for others to be able to buy, and raid drops and/or progression for the others. As well as in previous expansions, some are from quests and the like.

Intelligence Casters can still research spells, including the Priest ones, but again only upto a certain point. For the highest level ones, you'll have to buy them, quest them, faction work for them, or get raid drops.

The research skill was added to all classes, so you can make your class spells that an Int-Caster can, but with a lower probability of success, and melee and hybrids were given the skill to make disciplines as well, which only they can make.

For Priest classes, Research is pretty worthless, as the skill up path is much more expansive and narrow than for Int-Casters, and Casters can make all the spells you would be able to plus more. I don't want to discourage anyone interested in working on a new skill, but if you're not so inclined, it won't be worth the effort to do, since you can get them made in other ways, or obtain through the traditional methods.

And either way, for the highest level spells, Research won't help you out as a Shaman.

I hope this explains it clearly enough.
