Unplucking the BazaarFollow

#1 May 18 2009 at 3:11 AM Rating: Default
It would be nice in way of saving energi of home-pc's.By programming an option to go Offline;when being a trader in Bazaar. With a (queded)time limitiation of 60 hours. And 1 hour of locked time where you cant set you self up as trader after. For some some years i won't be playing EverQuest myself!
I would like someone with account .To post a forum on homepage EqPlayers.

Offline trading has been beat to death on the EQ Forums. The current position is one of the two (I forgot):

1. We (Sony) would like to do it, but we don't have the resources to dedicate to it.

or

2. The 10 year-old game engine can't incorporate this change.

3. they are looking into other options besides putting your stuff into an AH or similar type of deal, such as allowing you to set up a trader and go off line (the trader will remain up, but you can turn the PC off. You won't be allowed to trade and play though.)

Why not build a very basic machine that doesn't consume alot of power? You could leave it up 24/7 without any real adverse effects. I believe Antec makes green power supplies which could be utilized in a setup like this. Just my 2 copper.

Could you link to a developer response stating that? I can link to several where Pinzarn's two examples were cited but I have never seen any developer on the EQLive team ever say what you're saying they did. Last I heard, SKlug (who I think would know a little bit about EQ's code) said that offline trading would require a rewrite, the likes of which the EQ team could not justify the expense of. Even consignment, using the same system as the NPC used to hold quest items, would be too much as it would require a lot more in the way of resources.

Bottom line: It's not going to happen.

And Druid, there are people playing this game who can't even afford (or justify the expense of) an up to date computer. You think they're going to go out and buy an entirely new rig just for bazaar trading???

From the dev chat a little while ago

@Tamat - abmonk asks: Is off-line trading in the Bazaar a possibility?

+sklug - Doing a fully revamped trading system is not something I anticipate happening. However, we have considered the possibility of adding the ability to essentially log-off into a "bazaar" mode where people could still buy things from you in the bazaar. This would not allow you to be selling while you are adventuring, but would at least allow you to turn off your computers, etc. while still having a trader up. This is on our TODO list, but I have no current eta.

Think the middle of March. It was the 10th Anniversary dev chat. Got to be notes on it here somewhere.
