There may be one and I don't recall that option from way back when but in Wow there is a box you can click called Guild Member alert. It works for both Guild and Friends List and let's you know automatically when a guildie or friend has come on or has logged out.

Does EQ now have anything like that now and is it automatic alert, if so where do I go?

Only alert you can set for people joining / leaving, is for Chat Channels in EQ. It's a /command thing, and I don't remember it anywhere else, and seems like it has to be turned on each time you log in, but maybe there's an INI settting I don't know about to make it stay on (I hope). It's still great if your guild uses a bs channel for raiding, and has members auto-join, as basically, you still hear when those that are auto-joined logged in.

I too miss the friend / guild alert in EQ2 :(

/announce is the command to use.

I just make a friends hotkey. and use alt g for guild. Have to repeat it to keep up to date, so yeah an auto announce would be ok. If I had any friends or had a guild with more than 10 folks in it.

There is a way...but you do have to type /announce every time you log in. Only problem is you get everyone that is logging in, not just your friends or guild members.

Back in the day I had a /who friend all hotkey on my, I dunno, 6th hotbar? Wasn't that hard to flip over and hit it periodically.
