Progression serverFollow

I just recently heard about the new progression server that's coming out for EQ. Does anyone know what the death penalty will be? What is the current death penalty also? Do you still lose exp and have to fetch your corpse?

Edit: Edited for clarity.

Please re ask your question. My mind reading skills are very poor. Try writing your question out in long hand first to ensure it is clear.

Yes you still lose xp when you die, however when you die you go into a "hover" mode that allows you to get a rez without zoning back to bind point (if a cleric is there to rez you). If you can't get a rez, then you can respawn at your bind point (with all your gear).

There are also NPC's in the guild lobby that will allow you to summon your corpse no matter where it is.

Do all of those comments apply to the Progression Servers?

I would imagine all but the guild lobby "summoning" feature if they actually go by expansion progression. Although on normal servers I think guild lobby and corpse summoning are free to all now and not "tied" to it's expansion (DoN I believe).

Hmm, I think I missed something.

Could anyone provide a link to the announcement where SOE said the new server is going to be a progression server? Been keeping an eye out for it but apparently, I wasn't vigilant enough.

Thanks!

You were, they haven't announced anything yet. In fact I think the only semi official word has been from Sklug in the dev chat when he said (iirc) that he envisaged it would take a couple of months to bring the server on line once they had decided what it would be.

I say "they decided" deliberately since there is no guarantee that the new server will actually reflect the results of the poll, or that those that voted in it will every know the true result!

Why do we need a new server...I can only speak for Zek, but our population base sucks (has been approving) and I see threads regarding other severs are in the same shape. IMO all a new server will do is spread out even more the dwindilling population. I would rather see SoE's effort to bring in the brand new player and explayers lost to other games.
Logging on this moring the survey SoE puts out to vote for the server was up. Only thing the didn't do right was have a box to check for "None of the Above"

a friend told me about the new server. ive been out of the game for a few years and am excited about the prospect of it. everyone has their favorite parts of the game and for me it was planar progression. i doubt if any guild does that anymore on the standard servers. if anyone knows of a guild just starting or nearing planar progression, please respond, server doesnt matter. id happily spend a few days leveling up to do progression again

thanks

was the combine server not progression? they rushed through that in no time.
personally i think server merges are needed rather than new ones.

pvp suffers in this game. liked the old server good v evil.

Yeah the Combine was a Progression server. Myself and many others were excited about the nostalgia of camping Orcs in the Commonlands and trying to acquire a full set of banded armor.

Nagafen and Vox were dead in less than a week.

That was all fun and cool for those involved and that's alright but a lot of people were bummed out and just went back to their old servers.

That and the Progression servers were thrown together in the most half-assed way possible, leaving in hotzones, augment drops, hotzone gear drops and tradeskill upgrades which allowed crafting equipment and spells that wouldn't be seen for years in the "real" game. I could see them balking at rolling back Splitpaw to its 1999 "Levels 5-15" status and things like that but the whole thing stank of SOE not even trying.
