ok, trying to 5 box, here are the classes,

82 SK
82 Pally
82 Cleric
82 Shaman
81 Wiz

82 Merc warrior to catch the wandering mob that i missed while the SK is pulling(and this has happened)

i regularily 3 box the cleric/shaman/wiz but now find myself trying to level my wifes toons as well while work has her swamped, want to get her to 85 so when she gets back she has new stuff(she will be caught up at work about the time the next XP is out, so i wanted her at 85 before then)

SK pulls, Shaman is MA(and tags), Merc is MT, shaman's hired him, cleric does clericy stuff, wizard drops bombs, Pally assists merc. SK assists or off tanks aggro permitting.

Where would be a good place to grind levels then AA's? we are moderately well geared, but the XP vs. danger in the new zones is insane. i want to get us to 85, maybe then i can box the named in SoD to get gear and progress there, the nameds beat me up way to bad to box there.

curious as to why you have a pally there at all. If he's not tanking/OT'ing then he is really quite useless.

the pally is the wifes main, the SK is the puller.

The merc has taken over tanking, as i am barely able to 4 box effectively, much less 5 box.

She does all the work, i do all the support, something wrong here.......

It is a conundrum how you are supposed to get the better core gear (chest, legs ect..) wearing the crap gear you have now, especially if you don't raid.

Ideally you need to get the SoF armor first but even getting that involves taking on 3K hitters to get the basic armor and then 5K hitters to get the upgrades.

so either you need to find a raid geared tank to do your tanking or change your group make up to more healing (use a merc or 2 inside the group and keep player healers outside group) and get more dps.

I would drop the warrior merc for a cleric merc. I would then find a zone where the cleric could tank using the requitall line, self proc heals and aoe. Paladin and shaman can backup heal and the sk handles adds? I would be looking at stoneroot falls as the 65 hotzone, but Im not really familiar with the last few expansions high level zones.
In zones where you are facing db mobs I know the cleric cant tank, as our mitigation just not good enough.

To clarify a bit more, i can handle Loping Planes, even with an add or two. However XP there is a bit on the slow side.

I guess i am asking where would be a good XP place to go(better than Loping Planes), get maybe some gear, and finish levelling to 85.

Stoneroot, may be an option, will look to see what level of mobs are there, and can give that a shot.

Stoneroot wouldn't be very good xp at your lvl. You could try Mech guardian instance perhaps, or move onto Hills of Shade.
