"Farming" is just hunting with the intent of getting money instead of experience. You may even choose to forgo experience for getting money by choosing to kill llots of ow level mobs who have valuable drops with little risk.

The two main ways to go about this are either directly: Kill mobs who drop a lot of platinum or who drop items sellable to vendors for platinum (gems, vendor trash, etc); or Indirectly: Kill mobs who drop items other players will buy from you.

At lvl 40, your main source for direct farming is probably fine steel weapons and minor gems. Dungeons such as SolA/SolB and Lower Guk are good for fine steel weapons and you may want to try Dulak's Harbor for gems although it might be above you right now depending on your gear. Your best source for indirect farming is tradeskill goods. I don't know what tradeskill items are currently in demand but maybe someone else will post and say. Traditional favorites are spider(ling) silks and animal pelts.

One good location for pelts is Stonebrunt Mountains. The cats there only drop pelts of quality (never ruined) and the zone is a hotzone so you'll still get nice experience if you hunt the higher level mobs. If you want easier mobs, Nedaria's Landing also has mobs who only drop quality pelts.

Also, because someone is bound to say it, the higher level you are the easier it is to farm and the more opportunities you have open to you. If you don't have an immediate need for cash, you may find it more profitable in the long term to spend some time leveling up instead.

Farming is the act of killing mobs that give no exp (or have very little chance of killing you) in order to loot them. Hill giants, ice giants and sand giants are all prime farm mobs, but at 40 they can hurt you. To make money at 40 I would look int the bazaar to see what price spiderling silks are selling for then go to Cr or Fob and farm the spiderlings. On povar I can get 21 plat each if I am patient. This wont work unless you can leave a toon up as a trader.
Permafrost has the crystal drops used in ts. You wont be in a lot of danger there if you stay away from the lower levels on the way to Vox. MM with gargoyle eyes, and FS drops may also be ok for you at 40. Untill you try to go to far in the house. N
Note the permafrost crystals and gargoyle eyes sell as tradeskill items not to vendors. Vendor price is way lower than what a player will pay.
Blightfire would probalby be very good for you at 40 just kill all you can, loot and sell.
You are really just better off going to the hot zones kill, and loot there to raise money.

HAH joph and I posted at the same time, he by a second faster?

Now that I thought about it Stonebrunt has the bamboo armor and weapns that sell very well to vendors. The highland kobald's may be too hard still but the lowland ones will be easy. If you do go to Stonebrunt mnts. check out the quests for heretic heads, and the wakizashi of the frozen skies.

Hey Wc, farming for plat doesn't necessarily have to be an experience point-less experience. At level 40, your best bet is to kill the Elite Sand Giants in North Ro or South Ro. They should con dark blue or even to you at level 40, possibly yellow cons here and there. They are so-so experience, but the loot they drop is really good. On average, they drop about 25 plat per kill, with about 7 plat in drops on the corpse. Best of all, the South Ro giants are really close to some merchants down in the valley. A good long day of farming these should net you at least 1,000 plat, possibly more, depending on how much time you have, and how fast you can take them down.

Since you are a necro, you should have no problems at all - necro's are the supreme solo'ers of the game. Do it this way:

1. Make sure you have your pet up.

2. Make sure you're buffed (self buffs should be fine).

3. Pull with your best darkness-line spell.

4. Cast a different long duration dot before the mob reaches you.

5. Run away a bit, cast a different dot.

6. Sic pet on mob.

7. Fear the mob.

8. Stay out of melee range of the giant - they do a lot of damage.

9. Refresh dots as necessary (especially darkness).

10. Collect experience and treasure.

Note: when you fear the giants, make careful note of the mob's pathing - you DON'T want the giant to go back to his friends and bring help. When fearing in South Ro, I advise running down into the valley near the merchants before fearing them. Otherwise, they will tend to run back up the slope within aggro range of their friends if you don't pull far enough away before fearing.

Another tip - if you aren't really happy with your pet, the spectres on the spectre island (in south ro) make great necro pets - if you don't mind their charm breaking every so often. You might want to try debuffing them first, that might help the charm to stick longer. A fully buffed spec pet, oh yeah, that's a huge help in taking down the giants quickly - and that means lots of cash for you. Another great pet option is the Ghould of Takish-Hiz, if you can find him up. He can even root the giants, and has far more hit points than the spectres. Both spectres and the Ghould of Takish-Hiz should be dark blue or even cons to you.

As a side note, killing the spectres on the island at your level is not bad experience or money btw. I would avoid the agua goblins though (they're submerged, in the lake surrounding the spectre island).

Hope this info helped ya out.

Go to Goru'kar Mesa. Kill bears near the Blightfire Moors zone. Loot their teeth (and the other sellables they drop). If low on inventory space, stop looting the crappy tradeskill items they drop (they don't sell to vendors and players only rarely buy them, if at all). Silks, marrows, ores, that kinda thing. Leave 'em on the corpses.

If the RNG is kind, you can literally do 1k an hour or so (probably more as a necro. I'm doing it as a warrior). You'll also get xp for the kills (bonus!).

If anyone is killing the elite sand giants in north or south ro make sure you talk to the plate armor wearing human buy the fire around the oasis. He will give you at task to kill them and/or the named leaders. This is extra cash and exp for finishing the task.

The fine steel weapons they drop sell to vendors for good plats if you need the plats and are worth more in tribute than they sell for.

If you're selling for plats, you can do that right there in S. Ro to the vendor along the west wall south of the giants or to the magus in the Wayfarer camp (farther south).
